Introducing the Poindexter Awareness Office

We are pleased to introduce the Poindexter Awareness Office, dedicated to identifying those whose overqualifications make them incapable of actually getting anything done.

The Poindexter Awareness Office has identified Harriet Miers as the anti-Poindexter candidate most capable of mitigating the Poindextrous damage caused by pointy-headed justices David Souter and the Supremes in the areas of eminent domain and McCain-Feingold (which was upheld by the court, and merely drove campaign spending up). Our colleague, the esteemed Tom Grey concurs:

Harriet Miers is full of Common Sense and Goodness; so what if she's not a Pointy Head. In Myers-Briggs personalities, one of the pairs of types is being abstract, iNtuitive (N) versus being concrete, Sensory (S). Most bloggers and academics (and press?) are N, and it’s therefore important whether they are NF (abstract Feelers) or NT (abstract Thinkers). John Roberts is almost certainly an NT.

Don Surber confirms her non-pointyheadedness:

She is not some elitist professor or some lifer appellate judge. Miers became the first woman lawyer at a big Dallas law firm, and then worked her way to managing partner, the CEO of 400 lawyers...

And from Noam Scheiber, by way of James Joyner:

...what's important here isn't ideology but sociology... conservative elites are frequently as credentialist, even snobbish, as the liberal elites they scorn. Many conservative pundits and wonks attended top schools, read highbrow publications, and belong to exclusive professional societies. They firmly believe that elite credentials signify merit.

The experts agree: The Court has plenty of nice sharp pointy pencils, but to date is desperately short of erasers.
