Interview with Kevin Jackson: A Proud Conservative with a Relevant Message

Kevin Jackson is the father of four sons and an unlikely success story. Jackson is a highly sought after speaker, most recently speaking at the 9-12 event in Quincy, Illinois. Jackson has graced the stage with luminaries like Neal Boortz, Herman Cain, Judge Napolitano, and Andrew Breitbart, to name a few.In addition to his newly released book, The BIG Black Lie, Jackson is a regular on the Glenn Beck show, writes his daily blog, The Black Sphere, is a contributing writer to Big Government, American Thinker, and his work was recently featured in Townhall Magazine. Jackson hosts a radio show and does guest appearances on some of the more prominent conservative radio and television shows around the country.Jackson has a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and has gone from business owner to consultant for some of the world’s largest companies, making him a leader in the consulting industry in America. Kevin, I must say that I am thrilled to speak with you and appreciate you taking the time to do this interview for Blogcritics. You are quite the celebrity in the political arena these days, primarily the conservative movement. What got you started on this political adventure? It’s simple, we had two Democratic candidates (Hillary and Obama), which neither should be president and I decided to get off my butt and back a Republican. We should clarify that you were a speaker at the 9-12 Project in Quincy, Illinois, which included Tea Party protesters, and you have headlined at many other large events. Can you tell me how this came about? Did you get a bribe from the GOP? [Laugh] Now that my bank account is full…[laugh]. I love small-town America, having grown up in one. I believe the Tea Party movement is a life-changing event for many people…for America! I’m excited to be a part of it all. I got started in the Tea Party movement when I was asked to emcee for the St. Louis Tea Party. I was blessed to speak to 10,000 outstanding patriots and fellow extremists! I was part of a team made up of Jim Hoft (Gateway Pundit), Gina Loudon (a woman of amazing talent, home-schooling mother, and ex-Missouri Senatorial candidate), and Ed Martin (future congressman who will replace Russ Carnahan), and others. What a team! Tea Party people are the salt of the earth and are not as the media portrays them. If they were, I would say it.You caught my attention and not just because of your political stance, but your readiness to tackle controversial topics and with a no-nonsense, yet humorous style. So before we get to your book let’s cut to the chase and talk about the most recent and controversial topic; the charges being made by the left wing media and some celebrities and Democratic politicians, that all those who oppose President Obama or his agenda are racists.I saw the 9-12 clip with Glenn Beck and noticed you were on “racism patrol” at that event. I got a kick out of your witty response and it prompted me to write an article using your words, I hope you didn’t mind.[Laugh] "racism patrol"... The idea of what I, a black man, was doing there; we sent a black guy to go find them –– just irony and humor. If we make fun of them and ridicule their crazy, lame ideas that we are all racists, we pull the fuse out of their dynamite! I love the Tea Party movement for many reasons. First, Washington and the media are afraid of it and have tried to demonize the movement calling it racist. Being a black conservative, I can tell you that all I have ever felt at these events is an outpouring of love. I always dispel the idea that Tea Parties are racist events — by showing up! I sell tons of my book, The Big Black Lie, because people love what I have to say about America… not black America. I am an American, who happens to be black. I also like the fact that the Tea Party movement is able to help all movements because it is all encompassing. It is about lack of representation in general, not just taxes. Washington is now made up of prima donnas, who legislate on us, not for us! One of my quotes about Washington is that they tell us, "We couldn’t fix your brakes, but we made your horn louder!"The most recent “racism accuser” is  former President Jimmy Carter, which you've tackled in your blog and if I may take a quote from that article:

In case you are wondering why I wrote The BIG Black Lie, a book about how Democrats stole the distinction of being the party of Civil Rights, all you have to do is turn on the TV. We now have white Democrats pimping racism.

Who are these white folks so eager to represent the downtrodden and most ignorant amongst us silly Negros? Well one is a washed up old white guy, the 2nd worst president in history (to date): Jimmy “Crack Corn” Carter. I guess the world doesn’t need any more habitats for humanity?

The idea that one of the worst presidents in history is coming to the rescue of a black man in the highest office of the land, I find incredulous. It's demeaning!

Do you think they truly believe what they are claiming or is it some kind of political ploy to discredit or silence the protesters? They believe it! They believe they are helping and need to come to the rescue of the black man, which is demeaning! Demeaning? Can you expand on that?Black people, a group of people who have survived the atrocities of slavery, including deplorable living conditions and brutal treatment, as well as discrimination pre-Civil Rights movement, and a Hollywood has-been, like Garofolo, and the worst president in history, Carter, decide that they can help us. It's like those two helping Mike Tyson in a fight. Black people have been enduring for years and without this so-called "help" blacks would be titans of industry by now, and some other culture would be discussing racial discrimination. I say to liberals, Democrats, and Regressives (Progressives), please stop "helping" blacks! Did you happen to watch any of President Obama’s media tour this past Sunday? No, I usually wait for the pundits. The ACORN saga is another topic you have covered in your blog and was wondering if you heard about President Obama's response to George Stephanopoulos' (ABC) questions about the funding for ACORN, “Frankly it’s not really something I’ve followed closely. I didn't even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money." And he concluded with, "George, this is not the biggest issue facing the country. It's not something I'm paying a lot of attention to." Don’t you find it odd that this is the same president who continues to tout that “we are in the worst economic crisis since the great depression?" Doesn’t ACORN stand to get billions of taxpayer dollars and wouldn't this be important to follow? I’m not surprised. It is completely a farce, a non-issue for him. It’s an organization that he has strong ties to. Speaking of the media, I see you are a frequent guest on FOX News. I was wondering if you wanted to comment on President Obama’s choice to snub FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace? This is because he doesn’t get tough questions from most of the media like he would from FOX News. If I were him I wouldn’t either, I would want the softball questions. OK, let’s discuss your book, The BIG Black Lie: How I Learned The Truth About The Democrat Party, which was released this year and I noticed is getting rave reviews and climbing the charts and on its way to becoming a best seller. The purpose of my book, The BIG Black Lie, is to educate conservative non-blacks about the proud history of civil rights of the Republican Party, and thus the poor record of the Democrats. I explain in a humorous way "how" the Democrats co-opted being the party of civil rights, when nothing could be further from the truth. People who read this book will get a lot of belly laughs and a real understanding of racism on the Left! I believe people will really enjoy this book and most will love it! It will energize the conservative base and I believe it can make 2010 a fun year for conservatives.I find it interesting meeting people who presume I am a Democrat, like the incident I described in the book, when I registered to vote. A big black woman actually ended a personal call to get me the registration form and began talking in “code” to me about how we had to elect Obama as president. She had no idea I was not a Democrat, but an independent who was voting Republican. If she knew I wasn’t voting for Obama, I might still be waiting for my voter registration form! What are your thoughts on the political landscape and what will it take for conservatives to be successful? The conservative movement is gaining steam. Most of the action is occurring at the grassroots level, however, we need a few wealthy benefactors who can do what Soros does for the Left. If those people were to support teams like mine, we could really keep the Left off kilter. We win on ideas… period. The only way they win is when they get us backpedaling on things like racism and elitism, i.e. rich against poor. We are not the racists. They are. We are not elitist, just people who actually believe in "The American Dream". Since when did that become a crime? Ask the average poor black person, “Would you like to remain a ward of the government or be rich?" I think we know the answer. So most poor people would choose rich, yet they decry the rich. Such is the logic that Democrats have created with the poor. And more importantly, what this shows is that the poor don’t believe they can become rich. Democrats have them more confused than a woodpecker in a concrete forest! So we must expose this agenda and remove racism from the lexicon of politics.Do you have any words of wisdom for our liberal friends here on Blogcritics? When you create problems like you have in the black community, pull your car over and take a look at the damage you’ve done. Don’t keep driving and looking in the rear-view mirror and asking, “What happened?" Any plans to run for a public office? No. What’s next on your agenda?I will be doing more speaking engagements, including the Tea Parties. Aside from that, I'm busy with my blog, producing videos, and my radio show. My production team is revamping the radio show and we will be releasing a lot more videos soon. We will be producing an Internet political variety show in the near future, with the hope it catches on. And of course, promoting one of the best conservative books to come along in a long time, The BIG Black Lie!

Besides our conversation about politics, I discovered that Jackson is an athlete and has been studying martial arts since he was eight. We had a chance to briefly "talk shop" and reminisce about our "glory days" when we were lean, mean athletic machines! According to Jackson, “What you learn about America is that people are a lot less interested in race than they are in character.” Jackson believes that empowerment comes when you know who you are and what you stand for. While Jackson was as charming, amusing, and direct as I imagined him to be, he most definitely knows who he is and is strong in his convictions, forces that have catapulted him onto the political stage, branding him a "patriot" of our time.

Wow. A totally predictable interview that managed to nail each and every conservative talking point without fail.

While I'm certainly happy for you to have gotten the interview and think you did a decent job (minus the gushing, of course), this guy is basically a cardboard cut-out conservative that seems to lack any innovation or original thought. It's like the movement trotted out a black guy to the frontlines to say things like "white liberals should stop 'helping' black people" and so forth. Kind of condescending, if you think about it.

Just once, I'd like to see one of these guys rise above the bullshit and prove themselves to be something other than partisan hacks.

Well it just doesn't seem right for all those hopey changey white liberals to be calling this man a racist so he must be an Uncle Tom instead.

Right Jordan? You just about as said it in your last post. Don't beat around the Bush...say what you really want to say. it's not like we can't see through your thinly veiled bullshit.

You don't like it when those uppity black conservatives stray off the plantation. He's black so them Dem party owns his mind, body and soul.

That's it in a nutshell right Jordan?

    Huh?

    Huh?

  • 5 - Dave Nalle

Jordan, he's essentially saying the same things which Bill Cosby has been saying, things which ought to be obvious to everyone, but which clearly need to be said again and again until those duped into the plantation mentality start to get it.

Jordan, I always appreciate your candor and you do bring good ideas to many of my articles, however, Kevin is not a politician and developed his convictions on his own, no arm twisting by the "conservative movement".

As far as the "gushing"; even when I disagree with my liberal friends, I first respect them as a human being and I always try to find the good in their ideology (when there is some, like gun control). Sorry, you didn't appreciate my interview...

Dave, thanks for pointing that out about Cosby.

For some reason, I fail to see that. Am going have to reread the interview, Christine.

If it's the same Kevin Jackson (the ex- basketball player, from the Sacramento area), than it's not so. He was going to run (for a mayor or some other elected position) a few years back, but there was a nasty rumor going around concerning Kevin and a minor - a shower incident. Apparently, it thwarted his political ambitions, but he did entertain them. And I wouldn't doubt that he still does.

Roger, as far as I know that is a different Kevin Jackson? The Kevin in my article is into martial arts and not from California.

  • 10 - roger nowosielski

    Sep 25, 2009 at 9:42 am

I'm mistaken, then. There is another Kevin Jackson, a recently retired basketball star. I'll have to google.

    Sep 25, 2009 at 9:52 am

Roger, thanks!!! I hate it when rumors are spread (and repeated), it is ugly business. If you do a google search, you will find that there a are quite a few with the name Kevin Jackson.

Interesting to see someone so poorly informed as an interview subject, but at least it proves the point to those who decry Obama's critics are racist, right.

"I was wondering if you wanted to comment on President Obama’s choice to snub “Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace”?"

I am wondering why the interviewer and interviewee failed to point out FOX snubbed Obama's request for primetime coverage of his speech to Congress? Now obviously they aren't required and it made better business sense not to, but then surely they can't wonder why they got snubbed. That's not to say he would have done it anyway, but FOX gave him an opening.

"however, we need a few wealthy benefactors who can do what Soros does for the Left."

So he thinks no one wealthy is helping out the Right? Wow, this guy is really in tune with politics.

"I find it interesting meeting people who presume I am a Democrat,"

Why? Aren't the numbers usually near 90% in terms of blacks voting Democrat? If so, why wouldn't people presume he's a Democrat? That's like someone from Boston finding it interesting that people presume he likes the Red Sox.

And then he reveals his own presumptions: "A big black woman actually ended a personal call". What exactly gives away someone is big over the phone? Or was it a video conference?

The good thing about this interview is I now know not to pay any attention Kevin Jackson.

say what you really want to say

    I did, you jackass.

    Here it is again:

Just once, I'd like to see one of these guys rise above the bullshit and prove themselves to be something other than partisan hacks.

You don't like it when those uppity black conservatives stray off the plantation. He's black so them Dem party owns his mind, body and soul.

    If you say so...

Kevin is not a politician and developed his convictions on his own, no arm twisting by the "conservative movement".

Nobody develops their convictions "on their own," Christine. Nobody. Not even Dave Nalle, believe it or not.

It really galls you that a black man would openly espouse conservative views in public doesn't it Jordan.....especially after everything the Democrats have done to save Mr. Jackson form the evil, racist, GOP.
