I’ll Take One Hot Palin And One Cold Piyush "Bobby" Jindal To Go... Please

Part of: Bling It On

You have to admit that the GOP is really the COP, comical old party. I am still laughing. Sarah Palin single-handedly put the “bet” in "you betcha." Conservatives and radio pundits in the past election cycle have deigned to give the Democrat party advice, earning my famous rejoinder “Thanks, but no thanks.” And I expect that publicly they too will reject advice from this source out of hand. But they do so at the peril of the party. So I humbly ask who better to give them advice now but Heloise the prognosticator?

In that spirit I am offering advice through a looking glass into the soul of the Republican Party. But first, who should lead the Republican Party? Good question and one that needs answering ASAP. From the news outlets we are learning that there is no one at the helm, no soul behind the eyes, no essence in the spirit. We can’t have that. Leadership at the top is the first order of business. There was a recent GOP governors’ conference which is now only a shadow of its former self and just more preaching to the choir. At the same time Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin have both been making the rounds on TV and in front of cameras. It seems that any camera will do for Palin.

Who else is on the short list either for RNC chair or party ticket players? Let’s look at the persons-of-color conservative side to this argument: Michael Steele is vying to be the RNC chair, a brother looking for his conservative brothers' attention. Good luck with that. However, despite wind shear opposition of becoming its leader and his apparent lack of vision (the losing team) he might well be the infusion of color that the doctor ordered to cure the pasty, redneck look of the GOP. Here we go: Michael Steele vs. Newt Gingrich as GOP chair. Who will prevail? They appeared separately Sunday, Steele on FOX Sunday said of himself, “I'm a grassroots guy from my hometown of D.C.” He claimed to be an in-touch techie too: “I am a big techno-wonk, up until two at night blogging and checking out the world.”

What will the reformulated party look like in 2012? The model that might work is the same one that pundits proffered for Obama — Obama/Clinton. But that trial balloon was quickly shot down, and devolved into LOL. However, if you go back and read the current press, the supporters of Obama were worried (for ten seconds) about losing to McCain/Palin, because Obama did NOT choose Clinton.

    "party is way-too white"

What the heck does that even mean? I guess we need some affirmative action and quotas set against the GOP now?

I'd say just the opposite as you...the Dem party is way too Black and Hispanic.

For one, McCain was easy on immigration...Hispanics voted for Obama b/c he's a minority. Racist vote.

Second, most Black voters are Prodestant Christian...they voted for an extreme pro-choice candidate b/c he's black. Again, racist votes.

I'd say the Dem party is housing all the racists.

The one thing the Clinton administration did right was to attempt fiscal responsibity. For that, they got my vote - twice. It was in the best interests of the United States to be sound financially.

One does not see the president-elect heading in that direction, in spite of all the Clinton retreads who may be on the way into the cabinet.

    So, disaster looms for y'all.

As for the GOP? Assuming that Obama is inaugurated, when he is spreading his hands as he spreads the pain, the GOP will get back some of its power, even though it is largely their fault that the States are in the mess they are in.

That also assumes that the structure of the republic withstands the pressure of an economic/geo-political cataclysm that is on the way. The last time, from 1929-33, it was a near thing. By the time Hoover was running against Roosevelt, there was lots of talk of revolution.

    Cheers!

Nothing like Democrats giving advice to Republicans and doing it in a condescending and ill-informed manner.

Jindal is hardly the only ethnic Republican of consequence, and he's a hardline social conservative, which is exactly what the party does NOT need in a position of leadership. Leave him down in Louisiana to season for a while and then put him on the 2012 ticket as a VP with Mark Sanford at the head of the ticket.

Haley Barbour is a good manager.

He's had a highly successful run as governor in Mississippi,he's balanced the budget, pushed tort reform, and reformed (and increased funding for) the MS educational system. His leadership in the aftermath of Katrina was outstanding - to the point that MS, which was much worse hit and damaged (but didn't get the press) is much better recovered than New Orleans.

He's a good choice for GOP standard bearer.

I pay no attention to JFK's rants. Most of them aren't even coherent.

Heloise...I liked your article...but I must admit that I am partial to your politics and your style
..we can't give advise to the republican party because they are so broken that they have no idea which way to go..and I must admit I like that .
I read here a long time ago that Dave said the GOP needs to get rid of the religious right I agree with him 100% but what does that leave the party with and who the hell would want them ..that eliminates Palin and the rest of the race and gay haters in the religious right..
Part of the party says we need to have a bigger tent that includes pro choice haha that will be the day and and will be part of the reason they will not take the white house for years to come..because ppl are finally educating themselves and no longer believe the church has the right to tell them how to live ..this however does not include the south which is where I now live {Savannah Ga}..these ppl are racists gay haters and religious fanatics who still vote the way their parents taught them ..my grandchild goes to a Catholic school and I asked him "what do the kids say about Obama now that he won the election"..he said most of them say Osama Obama will never make it the the white house and he is a Muslim and a baby killer ..now who do you think told them that..my neighbor across the street is a Baptist and says he has donated to the KKK to kill the Nigger and has had talks with his Minister to forgive him for his hatred but he can;t change ..He is also a self made millionaire and blames Obama for the bad economy and for his losses in the stock market as well as his wife's decline in selling million dollar houses ..
I can't make this stuff up..this is why I see no hope for the GOP ..Maybe Palin and Jindal can start a new southern Party and call it the KKK.

It's always hilarious when Dave accuses someone else of condecension. He is right, however, about Republicans needing no advice from Dems.

They are doing unbelieveably on their own. They certainly do represent God and holiness, they have no nagging economic principles now to hold them back, and they have the wisdom and statesmanship of Lincoln-reincarnate in Palin to guide them.

That combination is sure to quickly win over masses of minority, women, and young voters.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that Heloise was a Republican... or used to be, at any rate.

  • 9 - Baronius

Some author with the last name of Dougherty came up with the Dougherty Doctrine: "The Republican Party should be more like me; what's wrong with the Republican Party is that it's more like you." That's what most advice to the Republicans is these days. I say, we've got sound and popular principles, an organization, and we can pull 46% with a terrible candidate during two wars and a recession. We'll be ok.

What we don't have, haven't had since 1988, is a leader who can speak. Bush I and II, Palin, Quayle, Dole, McCain - and some of those people actually won! Gingrich was articulate, but lost credibility. Kemp was articulate, except during his VP run.

So be prepared for this: for the next four years, I'm going to repeat the same thing over and over, so get used to seeing it. We need to support our best people and promote them through the ranks. We have the ideas, but we've got a terrible starting team. We need to develop the talent on the bench. Both parties have to. The Dems failed to develop their second string so egregiously that they were left running a newborn for the presidency. It'll be easier for the party in the White House to develop talent (although over the last 16 years, the presidents haven't bothered to), but the Republicans have to put in the effort starting now.

Heloise, would you concede that besides not being old white guys, Jindal and Palin represent some of the Republicans best and brightest talent? Again, disregarding the fact that they're both conservative, and thus disagree with your liberal policy preferences.

"way too white" means just that. As for your racist charge let me tell you something I follow a group who's guru, mine died but they are related, is an Indian from the Punjab, a Sikh actually, and the way they follow this man's every move, think he is God incarnate and just pander to him in many ways because they are of the same tribe/ethnicity is unbelievable.

Is it racist? No it is self-interest. The day when the news is not full of white women who were hurt, killed, maimed or otherwise in the news just because they are white then I will show you balance and no need for race. That day however won't happen until whites are no longer the majority.

Is that racist? According to anthropologists one protects, nurtures one's DNA gene pool first and foremost. You don't know your KKK or racist history...the first thing they fear mongered was a "race of mongrels" translation: protect your gene pool!!

I urged black folks to vote their race...yes I sure the fuck did write it and mean it and they did it. I wrote that it would be racial suicide not to. There was a prophecy that I did not create that made it clear that miscegenation would not solve the black man's problem.

So, I spent twenty years trying to figure out what would change the game to get blacks out of double jeopardy. I think the answer is blowing in the ruling class wind.

Yes, it is race-based but not racist...big difference.

Dave you make my point for me...my sarcasm you miss. I am saying that GOP will NOT put a black or ethnic at the top of the ticket. I am saying they SHOULD but did you read "windsheer-opposition" for Steele as RNC? It goes across the board.

You people ain't ready. Also this is about folks in the NEWS...hello, not people we never heard of. You'll tried that already...ahem...Palin, Sarah governor from nowhere.

    Heloise the prognosticator speaks.

  • 14 - Dave Nalle

    Nov 17, 2008 at 9:08 pm

All I've seen is support for Steele as head of the RNC. The only concern is that he's a little inexperienced.

As for an ethnic GOP candidate (and I don't consider Jindal properly ethnic), I'm all for it. The problem is that we're a few years away from having a good, qualified selection to choose from. We've been trying to get black governors, senators and congressmen electd and the Democrats have been winning those races, but the field of great ethnic candidates in the GOP is growing. If we can get Michael Williams in as Senator to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison when she runs for governor here in Texas, then we're on our way.

Yes, I was a Republican. In fact my dad we called "black Jack" was a Republican too. The Adams family owned the largest wrecking yard in the midwest. Everyone knew them who had any dealings with cars. In fact they were named: Jack, Ted, and Bobby three of the brothers...before the Kennedy brothers because they were actually older.

Poor Dave also misses my pinpoint...you lost, why not take advice from those who saw the win coming?

JFK is all about winning...plain and simple. Winning is everything in politics...Not whining Dave---it's winning....that counts...say it with me "winning not whining" okay?

As for the lady who likes my style but continues to hear her kids spout and repeat racism my reply as a teacher: one who repeats the crap is just as guilty as those who first said it. So you need to do some housecleaning there.

I have long ago come to the conclusion and you make my point very well...white folks will have to solve their race hatred and it starts by looking past color and seeing the content of the character as the master MLK stated so eloquently. Yes, he is the master. He was Cicero in his Roman life and as everybody knows Mark Athony had killed for the Phillipics he wrote.

As long as whites see not just black people but also Indians as "niggers" then they have a race problem. This is really not a problem in the anthropologist mind. They are full of ironies...

Obama's mom was an anthropologist and they have two things that make them different: tend to be atheists and embrace the "other" as his mom did. He comes from strong racial stock...no doubt. His past karmas are what brought him to where he is now...a lifetime of apotheosis. And he is smart to study other lives of apotheosis such as Abe, JFK's idol and other great presidents like FDR.

Anyway, I digress...Yes, white folks call their white cousins, Indians from India, the N-word just because they have dark skin some of them. They are NOT black. Only Dravidians are non white. The creators of Sanskrit (Indians/Persians) progenitors of the Indo-European language roots.

So when whites hate on Indians they are really hating their own reflection. How messed up is that? Jack rests his case.

"you people" was a ref to Republicans...sorry for the confusion. Or for anybody who supported them. It was not the racist "you people" that whites are so fond of doling out. Did I say that?

No it was not THAT "you people."

Oh, no, yes he is talking black. One chapter is "THe Roach Motel" and that is code for black ghetto. He says he is really talking about DC which is mostly black. That people go in and don't come out of DC but become lobbyist etc. I can't take this comedy of errors. And "cockaroaches" is the word that was used to create the genocide in Rwanda. I hate Huckabeen.

Huckabee says we have lost our moral way "we have to have more people cleaning off graffitti from bridges and buildings and that's expensive and that's what causes the HUGE expenses in government...need more cops.."

Now you have the REAL face of the Republicans. They will drive the lawless away from the party...LOL.

How stupid can you GET to admit your racism on TV on national FAUX NEWS as they call it?

I can't wait until the GOP is tearing at each other's throats because that is WHAT coming... You heard it here first.

Breaking...someone should blog this: YANG IS OUT OF YAHOO... I must be a jinx to the stock market. I kept my fucked up yahoo stock but sold the other stuff, got my JPM money out.

And now we know Yang fucked up big when he said "thanks but no thanks" to Microsoft. What an idiot. And Japs think black folks are stupid. He blew a 31/share deal and now the stock has closed at a fucking lousy 10/share. Now it will go UPPPP I hope, don;'t care really. Can you tell I don't care?

Dave, Nice site, thanks. I knew from studying JFK history that many blacks including the Kings were republicans. The call Bobby and Jack made caused MLK Sr. to tell his congregation he was going to vote for JFK instead of RMN, that Nixon to you folks.
