No - you were just throwing some elephant dung and hoping it would stick, or at least get some attention.

Else you'd have added some disclaimers at least

I was just highlighting the fact that a non-'traditional' woman, who has power and authority, and who respects and appreciates diversity in her life is being attacked for it.

This doesn't quite come across in the post.

Justin -- I believe you, but I still strongly feel that you should change the title of the post.

Aaman, because of their diet of mostly grasses, Elephant dung is quite dry and doesn't stick well to much of anything.

I believe Justin as well. The title of the post, however, is classic right wing stuff. Perhaps Justin is doing us a favor by getting the anti-right wingnut charged up.

JR, re #21 A guy who's not turned on by lesbians sounds kinda gay to me.

by that logic, a woman who is not turned on by gays must be a lesbian?

btw, didn't you come out in another blog? aren't you the guy you wrote the two-word post, "i'm gay'?

On reading the post closely, one agrees this is not a smearmeister at work - my apologies.

Indeed - why would anyone care about her sexuality, or the lack of it?

Actually, once I got past my initial disbelief I did think it was a humor item. Only a neocon would read stuff like that with a straight face and believe it.

Aaman - thank you for rereading. I hope that the more I post on here, the more people will start to understand my style. Take a look at my blog and see what I mean: http://www.meetjustin.com/Blog .

As I said in my post: "Just because a woman fights for the rights of womankind, it does not make her a lesbian. And just because a woman is powerful and intelligent, it does not make her a lesbian. And most importantly...being friends with lesbians does not make you a lesbian."

Hillary should be proud of her accomplishments. Though I may not agree with all her politics (or her choice of words at times) she is a force to be respected.

I know a lesbian with a daughter and she is maternal. How do we know Hilary was not maternal? It takes more than staying home and baking cookies for your kids to show you love them. It always seemed to me that her and chelsea had a great relationship. And none of this has a thing to do with her sexuality.

And this just in from Gallup:

A recent Gallup Poll finds that 55% of Americans have a favorable opinion of New York Sen. Hillary Clinton. Thirty-nine percent view her unfavorably. These results are unchanged over the past year, but are improved readings from January 2001 through 2003...

eric, is that number close to kerry's favorable ratings early on?

part of me doesn't want her to run just because the big tar 'n feather machine will be trotted out...though i suppose they'll use it on just about any dem running.

Mark -- You got it right: the attack will be on any Dem candidate. Democrats should look to the best possible candidate. Is that / will that be Hillary? Hard to say, but it looks like the rightists (hilarious, that word, isn't it?) are taking no chances with the early slinging of the mud.

Oy - I really don't want to think about 2008 already!

I've done a lot of research on the current VA Governor's race and the more I see Mark Warner's positioning on issues, the more I see his increased potential to be a contender in '08.

I have a feeling he may be another John Kerry. Of course, I mean that in more in the sense of watered down political solutions and less in the sense of the 'eat your brains' zombie-like charisma.

Check this out for a summary on Warner: http://decision08.blogspot.com/2005/06/candidate-profile-twenty-mark-warner.html

Interesting, Justin. However for us in Massachusetts, especially in the Blackstone Valley, A President Clinton would do more to help us than a President Warner. Right now I am leaning toward a McCain/Whitman ticket. But, like you say, "oy." We've got a long way to go.

  • 44 - Eric Berlin

    Jun 08, 2005 at 5:43 pm

A McCain / Whitman ticket would, I think, be nearly unstoppable.

But can McCain win over rightwing partisans to get the GOP nomination? That will be just about the most interesting question in presidential politics over the next three years.

I miss you Massachusetts. Love, the grad student from DC.

Eric, the right wingnut machine nearly destroyed Senator McCain in South Carolina 6 years ago. I think the good Senator learned many lessons and will be better prepared this time to deal with those people.

It is my hope that the real Reaganites will unite with the moderate faction of the Republican Party to take it back from the extremists who are no closer to Ronald Reagan than Joseph Stalin was. The Democrat Party continues to spiral downward. While a Hillary presidency remains within the realm of possibility, I don't believe the Democrat Party is yet at the point where it can rally behind her to get the job done.

You know what - I wish Hillary was a lesbian. I am tired of my european friend pointing out with a smirk about American democracy not being a truly representative because all our Presidents have been White , Christian and Male (and Straight). Hillary becoming President would take care of two things at one go . Female and Gay. Only wish Hillary was Black and Jewish...Sigh...

White, Chirstian, Male and... STRAIGHT???? I think there's a book out there alleging that good ol' Abe Lincoln not straight. I'm willing to bet that he's not the exclusive Presidential member of the club. But all of that really doesn't matter does it?

"Jarboy is right in that powerful women are almost always smeared as lesbians by men."

Not always. Some of us love them carpet munchers!

  • 50 - Silas Kain

Not to sound crass or rude, Marc, but here's a little tidbit:

Some carpet baggers aren't carpet munchers at all.

I'm sure there are plenty of right wingnuts who would love to know what I mean.

hey, i never thought Hillary's a lesbian...geee, she's powerful, intelligent...but really not enough to call her that. i doubt those info you've gotten were true or were just products of someone else's fascination-slash-imagination

You folks are all screaming about right wing nuts and neocons...I hate to tell you but the author of this book is anything but right wing! Former Editor-in-chief of NY Times Mag, Editor for Newsweek...he's anything but right wing...

  • 53 - bhw

    Jun 09, 2005 at 8:31 am

    Guilt by association, eh Andy?

If the quotes from this book are accurate, his views of sexuality and women show that he's not really a liberal.

    Jun 09, 2005 at 8:32 am

Uhhhh...I'm not right wing or a neocon, altho I may very well be a nut, but...what are carpetbaggers and carpetmunchers? Thanks.

  • 55 - bhw

    Jun 09, 2005 at 8:38 am

Also, Andy, the book is published by Sentinel, which is the conservative imprint of Penguin.

  • 56 - andy marsh

    Jun 09, 2005 at 8:41 am

Well, you know bhw, bill and hillary convinced me I wasn't a democrat...maybe they did the same thing to Mr. Klein?

A carpetbagger is a politician that moves into a location and pretends to be a local...i.e. hillary moving to NY, because she knew she couldn't get elected in Arkansas...I'll let someone else explain carpetmuncher!

  • 57 - Silas Kain

    Jun 09, 2005 at 9:23 am

Other carpetbaggers include Mitt Romney, GOP Governor of Massachusetts and Patrick Kennedy, Congressman from Rhode Island. Romney is a conservative Mormon and Patrick is a liberal Kennedy which means they are probably exclusively baggers.

  • 58 - Nancy

    Jun 09, 2005 at 9:30 am

OK...I infer then that 'carpetmuncher' is either obscene or an extreme political perjorative? But what is it? The word itself doesn't suggest any particular activity to me, since I'm not into that sort of thing. People aren't usually coy or shy on BC, just speak up.

  • 59 - Silas Kain

    Jun 09, 2005 at 9:31 am

Well, Nancy, clinically speaking 'carpetmuncher' is the slang term used for cunnilingus.

  • 60 - Nancy

    Jun 09, 2005 at 9:55 am

Oh. Thank you. That's all I needed to know.

I've learned so much from reading stuff @ BC ... quite an education.

  • 61 - Silas Kain

    Jun 09, 2005 at 10:10 am

I hope I didn't offend you. There are some right wingnuts out there that consider this kind of thing a capital offense.

  • 62 - bhw

    Jun 09, 2005 at 10:11 am

"this kind of thing" -- education?

    Ha!

  • 63 - Nancy

    Jun 09, 2005 at 11:02 am

No, certainly you didn't offend me: after all, I asked, and then insisted, so how could I be? I'm embarrassed I walked myself into it, but that's my problem. Having had the explanation, I can now see it's pretty obvious, but as I said, I guess I'm one of the few to whom things like this aren't obvious at all. Thanks again for going out on the limb. And yes, bhw, it is sort of educational. At least I learned an expression I've never heard or seen before, and if you learn, it's educational.

  • 64 - jarboy

    Jun 09, 2005 at 12:48 pm

nancy, have you never heard the expression, does the carpet match the drapes?

I didn't know you were an interior decorator, jarboy.

And yes, bhw, it is sort of educational. At least I learned an expression I've never heard or seen before, and if you learn, it's educational.

Nancy, the joke was in reference to Silas' comment that: "There are some right wingnuts out there that consider this kind of thing a capital offense." So, the obviously poor joke was that righties consider education a capital offense, as opposed to the carpetmunching itself.

  • 67 - Silas Kain

    Jun 09, 2005 at 1:33 pm

Hmmm, bhw. The teaching of evolution or sex education may be capital offenses in some of these states. So, I guess you're right!

  • 68 - Nancy

    Jun 09, 2005 at 1:38 pm

Oh. Thanx, bhw. That did go right over my lil' punkin' head. No, Jarboy, never heard that expression. I'm very clueless where items of sexual slang are concerned. Just lucky I guess.

"Chelsea Clinton was conceived as a ploy"

Thats a good one, my parents always told me they found me in a cabbage patch. They never suggested I was conceived in a ploy.

Is this similar to being conceived in the backseat of a Plymout?

wouldn't it be hot if the next presidential election featured a contest btwn 2 lesbians? if hillary is a dike, as some contend -- and she may well be, and she runs against condalezza (well, she is over 50, never married, powerful)...

Ms. Rice (or should that be Miss Rice?) was caught, in public and on camera if I recall correctly, accidentally referring to George W. Bush as her husband.

Of course that makes it impossible for her to be lesbian, because we all know lesbians never marry, and in fact never even think about being married to, men.

(Having finally seen the latest Star Wars film last weekend, I can think of only one thing Karl Rove might say if Ms. Rice were outed as a lesbian:

    "NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!")

  • 75 - jarboy

    Jun 09, 2005 at 6:25 pm

actually, vic, you are speculating she was refering to w. she simple said, i've got to get home to my husband. she could have been refering to janet reno, for all we know.
does her enjoyment of fisting make her a lesbian? or do straight girls like that too?
