WOW, people were thinking George Bush was kind of dense, but it turns out he's a genius!! He single handedly proposed a new kind of automobile! I imagine its something Bush came up with in his secret laboratory, where he goes to relax.
I know that Al Gore got some grief for supposedly saying he "invented the internet", but he was only VICE-President. If the PRESIDENT of the United States tells the nation that he has proposed a new type of clean locomotion for the nation during a live debate, that's a different matter. I wonder if he will get royalties on his new idea?
I was a little confused by what a “hydrogen-generated automobile” actually was. Is the automobile generated OUT of hydrogen? That would be transmutation of elements and that would just change the laws of physics as we know them. This is definitely the biggest news of the debate, but the question is now, should we keep Bush as President or would he be more valuable to the world in a scientific think tank working with the finest science minds of our times?

The line IS on that page. For clarity I cut out the two words "That's why" at the start of the sentence and put in the three dots to indicate there was something earlier. I noticed that I was having trouble using the "find" feature in Internet Explorer on this page, but its a little past the half way point in the transcript. who did invent the hydrogen generated car, just out of curiosity. i know several car companies are doing them, but trying to find ways to make them cost effective. i saw a whole thing on them and safety, but i still have to say it gives me pause that if the tank is hit, then it explodes because it's compressed hydrogen, right? i know they built in safety features, but how safe are they really? i like the idea, but have no idea as to safety ratings in a serious crash; ie, would one be able to get out in time if the tank were to rupture etc.? i know itburns straight UP, but isn't this still a risk? donm't get me wrong; i'm absolutely all for a way of saving the planet and making cleaner cars, but the safety statistics must be clear first; anyone have any links or thoughts on this? -- as for W., i think he just meant he liked the idea of them, though he didn't elaborate or say why - maybe because he doesn't know? who knows. anyway -- if anyone knows feasability of the hydrogen car for ALL autos and safety issues i'd be interested.

Hyrdogen is not a solution because it is not a source of energy, but rather a way to transfer energy from one form to another.
It may be significant in another 20 or 30 years or so.

Why hydrogen and not electric? I know there are problems, including distance, for the current electric vehicles, but someone in my area has developed a fast (screaming yellow) EV that can make it to Las Vegas from Los Angeles. Also, another gentleman recharges his VW bug conversion with solar energy.
Some day, I hope to convert a VW bug.

About almost a decade before Bush proposed the Concept of hydrogen Car, a Filipino Inventor a already has a running hardware of it. The Car model is a Toyota Corrola (About a 1998 model) and it still runs today. But sadly, since the Philippine government is too busy in dirty politics, the invention never really made a popular impact on the people of the Philippines (perhaps due to poverty as well). The inventor, which goes by the name "Dingle", made modifications on the Gasoline engine and ended up with a hybrid engine that runs on water, which also produces clean water as a waste.
