Freedom Costs. And Right Here's Where You Start Paying... In Sweat

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I didn’t plan for this to be published around the Fourth of July. I’ve been writing it a bit at a time for months and it’s just ended up being finished now. That having been said, “Happy Independence Day, America”. Let’s try and remember what we’ve given up to get here and what we can never afford to give up to stay here.

All right, people. Get ready to hate me.

I’m going to say something that is TOTALLY contrary to everything everyone else you know has said on the subject and it’s about something that everyone in America has some emotional connection to. Even me. Ready? Ok, here goes:

Most of the people who died in the 9/11 cataclysm were not "Great American Heroes". They just died. It sucks, but that’s it.

Everyone feels like these people who were in the Trade Center buildings or the Pentagon and lost their lives, either by directly being hit by a plane, or by fire, or even by jumping to their deaths to avoid being burned, were heroes because they died in the middle of the first foreign attack on US soil in decades. Not so. These people, for the most part, were victims but not heroes. I’ll get back to this point later.

I know: I’m an evil son of a bitch and I love Osama.
I know: I’m a commie pinko.
I know: Why am I standing up for Al Qaeda and the Taliban?
I know: Your beloved son or sainted mother died that day.
And, I know: “Why do you hate America, J?”

I don’t. I love it. In fact, I’ve recently come to realize just how much I love it and how much I love the city I live in and was born in, New York City. I just refuse to be indoctrinated by bullshit from guys who count on the fact that we won't think for ourselves and will just kneejerk react to whatever they tell us. They want you blind, angry and ignorant. They just want to be your puppetmaster.

As I said, I live in NYC and on September 11th 2001 I was out that morning working in my neighborhood. Just after the first plane hit, someone walked up to me and said some crazy nonsense about a plane and a building. I gave him a "Wow! That’s terrific!” smile as I walked away waving like “Ok, Crazy Man. Thanks for the nonsense!” A half hour later I was standing in my apartment, staring at the TV, stunned. And when that building fell my jaw dropped and I screamed. I mean I fucking screamed. Those motherfuckers had dropped MY Twin Towers, killed people here, in MY city. MY world. I fucking hated those motherfuckers; whoever “they” were.

Thanks, George. It's scary to write stuff that you know is true, but everybody's gonna hate you for because it isn't "P.C."

I agree, we're totally at the point of being screwed up and if we're not careful we're going to sanitize all of our freedoms right the hell out of here. The world has ALWAYS been a dangerous place - that's why governments even exist, to care for their people. A government is basically a couple of your friends you put in charge of a big "kitty" of everyone's money. When you all decide to spend the money on caring for the group that's how government sponsored housing and healthcare come into being. That AINT "communism" the dirty word, it's the very definition of government.

You don't get "free-er" by giving that government more control over your life, you get free-er by giving it LESS. You give it more ability to help it's people and consequently they have the ability to rule themselves better because they don't have to worry about some of their basic needs. And we're about to piss that all away because we're giving away control.

Recounting some of the deceits by which the American Rulers tricked us into allowing them to raid and loot the treasury just before Bush got dismissed from office.
