If man on animal sex (horse masturbation) jokes on a public CSPAN broadcast aren't indecency, what is?
(UPDATE) It has been pointed out to me that the FCC might not cover this because CSPAN is a cable channel. So be sure and include in your complaints that the FCC should expand its mandate to cover these types of outrages whether they are on broadcast OR cable TV. (END OF UPDATE).
Here is where to find out information about how to make a complaint http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/obscene.html
Maybe we should be alerting the American Family Association (AFA) for their aid in fighting this case of broadcast obscenity? http://www.afa.net/entertainment/
In fact, following the AFA's lead, perhaps we can adapt the form letter they suggested for the Janet Jackson incident? Feel free to use this language to write an FCC complaint protesting the evil Republican filth machine that IS Laura Bush:
Federal Communications Commission
Enforcement Bureau
Investigation and Hearings Division
445 12th Street, S.W. Rm. 3B443
Washington, DC 20554
Dear Sir or Madam:
The Communications Act states, Whoever utters any obscene, indecent, or profane language by means of radio communication shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.
In addition, the FCC has defined broadcast indecency as language or material that, in context, depicts or describes, in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium, sexual or excretory organs or activities.
On the evening of April 30, 2004, CSPAN broadcast the annual White House Correspondents Association dinner Saturday night. This broadcast featured a perfectly obvious reference by the First Lady, Laura Bush, to man on animal sex, specifically a human manually manipulating a horse’s penis. This broadcast was patently offensive and violated contemporary community broadcast standards. I demand that CSPAN be fined the maximum amount for each indecency violation.
I hereby request the Federal Communications Commission conduct an official investigation of CSPAN for broadcast indecency.
Please notify me of the action taken regarding this complaint.
Sincerely,
(put your name here)

The press correspondent dinner was not, as far as I know, aired live over any broadcast network. Any subsequent decision to air any of Bush's comments was the decision of network executives, so I am truly mystified as to where you get your idea that we should complain against Laura Bush.
Perhaps it's an idea that the FCC should be regulating every form of public discourse? Hmm.

This is supposed to be a JOKE, J-O-K-E. Funny. Haha. Irony. Sarcasm. Humor. Look it up.
3 - Eric Olsen
BTP, good one, funny and clever, but you please use the Humor and Satire subcat.

Oh myGawd! The election is OVER. The republicians WON. Get on with it and put your energy in a positive direction. It is really a shame that you liberals feel so burned that you can no longer smile or even have a sense of humor...Take a lesson from Bill Clinton and Bush the Senior...it's called having respect and understand of eachother. In other words...be an adult.
5 - Natalie Davis
Your guys won. Well, good for you! You have reason to smile and laugh. Personally, I would look stupid smiling when, IMO, everything is shot to hell.
Now excuse me, Ms. or Mr. Kenton, but isn't it typical of adolescent behavior to go along with a lie just to fit in with the popular crowd? Sounds like that is what you are telling dissenters to do.
Friendly advice from a complete stranger, Ms./Mr. Kenton: MYOB. I am an adult. When I see a crew in charge driven by what I see as an immoral philosophy and worldview and that I believe does dangerous, un-American, inhumane things on a routine basis, I act like an adult -- by dealing with reality, thinking for myself, and refusing to go along with stupid peer pressure from the likes of you.
I suggest that you take your own advice and act like an adult: Allow people to think for themselves and react to situations as they must. Just because you can tolerate the present hellish climate does not mean everyone can. And most of us are not throwing pies.

Eric, you think this should be under the humor and satire subcategory? I was thinking perhaps this should go under culture since it deals with the culture wars...

"The election is OVER. The republicians WON. Get on with it and put your energy in a positive direction."
Sure and the Republicans are all about making sure that a stray breast doesn't appear on TV. If you suppport the Republicans THIS IS WHAT YOU SUPPORT... If you don't support the Republicans, why YOU MUST BE A LIBERAL.
You can't crow about your victory and then not take ownership of what you ended up with... If you don't support a party that wants to make swearing and sexual references on TV a crime, then DON'T vote Republican, if you do like that stuff, well, then you should support my post because it is all about George Bush's victory...

I love how any negative statement about someone in the current administration or their family members ends in childish bickering. Thanks for continually reminding me why I don't blog about politics.

Well Kenton. While btp may be going a tad to far, your pleas for respect and understanding are loading my duds with carpet lint as I roll on the floor alternately laughing and crying due to the absolute ridiculousness at the prospect of offering such civil notions to a bunch (GB & crew) who haven't the faintest clue of such accomodations.
You've got to be joshing.
They wouldn't think twice about hammering someone on the "other side" for similar hijinks if they felt it would earn them a few points with the neo-puritans.
It's what they do.
You see with us liberals it's difficult, (btp notwithstanding) due to our deep revulsion of hypocrisy, to not cut the same comedic slack to everyone regardless of political stripe. It simply leaves a bitter taste in our mouths knowing the "other guys" sense to act in kind is blinded by their utter devotion to the Christo fascist zombie brigade, and their own self-rightious morality, to the point where means are sacrificed at the alter of ends.
Our country is being run by those who have scarcly made it out of their ego-centric terrible twos.
So please, spare me the adult crapola.

Actually, an election was held. It not about "your guys" or "them guys"...
Natalie... go take a nice hot bath and slit you wrist with the broken wine bottle, you consumed prior to taking you life, because the world is over for you... and you can't go on.
Grow up, get a life, go to school, do something except moan and groan and whine about politics... Party A and Party B are now Party AB, so there is really no control.
Render unto Ceasar, what is Ceasar, and live you own life as YOUR OWN.
That was one of the lamest, stupidist, defeatist, insecure, chickenshit posts I have ever read. You just showed the web your ass, and your emotional immaturity.

All you liberals take heart, the "Christo fascist zombie brigade", with all their ranting and raging are sure to suffer the fate of the Whoo-Whoo bird that flies in ever diminishing circles screaming "Whoo-Whoo" till it finally disappears up its own ass leaving the world a better place

Why is this a joke? File the complaints. Hit your local news show while you're at it. And The Daily Show with John Stewart. They all replayed it.
I would hope that the AFA and the other right wing christian groups would do it, but if they don't then everyone else should. Not because we dislike Laura Bush - she's fantastic - but because the FCC needs a kick in the nuts.
This is, btw, a sterling example of how Bush's personal values are completely out of step with the christian neocons he's had to make deals with.
Dave

It wasn't a joke. George knew what he was doing with that horse.
15 - Leoniceno
Heh, for satire it sure is similar to some stuff that I've read on these right-wing outrage type sites.

Now, why would I want to file a complaint with the FCC? Under the First Amendment, Laura has every right under our Constitution to speak her mind freely...just like Howard Stern, Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, or you.
In other words, why the hell would I do something that the religious fascists have been doing so vehemently of late? They file complaint after complaint with the FCC about something offensive they've seen or heard, at least to them, without once considering their right as a U.S. citizen to turn the DAMN channel to something else more to their liking.
If anything, as an uncompromising defender of the U.S. Constitution, I will send a note to the FCC praising Laura for her coming out of the proverbial closet and asking them not to pay any attention to the critics.
Oh, by the way, I'm not a Bush supporter. Never have been. I'm not a Republican. I'm not a religious fascist. I served honorably in the U.S. Air Force. I believe a U.S. citizen has a right to speak, especially over the publicly-owned airwaves, and any attempt at censorship is just a sign of neo-Communism taking root in our society. I know what the Commie Red Chinese censor, you see, on their Commie-controlled airwaves. Someone, unfortunately, is attempting the same ploy in our society.
So, Laura, speak up, speak freely. Just make sure to chastise some of those religious freaks who support your Sugar Daddy the next time they try to limit the First Amendment rights of other freedom-loving U.S. citizens. That's all I ask.

If I were a horse I would be just a little freaked by George Bush.
18 - RJ
Somewhat humorous, BTP. Thanks for the chuckle.

As someone who works in cable, PLEASE do not ask the FCC to extend indecency regulation to cable even if it isn't a serious complaint. We don't need anymore attention on us!

I wonder if he was daydreamming about Gannon when he was jerking off the horse..

>>You see with us liberals it's difficult, (btp notwithstanding) due to our deep revulsion of hypocrisy<<
This must explain the massive self-loathing which drives the liberal culture of hate and resentment.

liberal culture of hate and resentment, eh?
right.
nah, we're just amused at all of the rampent conservative smugosity.

Republicans are disgusting because they are arrogant, dictatorial, smug, and support a corrupt congress & administration; Democrats are disgusting because they're feckless, spineless, smug, and support a corrupt congress and wanna-be administration. Perhaps tar & feathers isn't good enough for them; perhaps stringing them all up on the Mall with their own innards as a warning to would-be's and wanna-be's and starting over with a clean slate would be better....

I don’t give a frog’s fat-ass about Laura Bush’s view on equestrian genitalia, whether she joked, quipped, smirked or got under the horse herself. Complain to the FCC? Yes. 400,000 dead in Darfur? Eh. Yeah, maybe we should address our commander-in-chief’s lack of action in Sudan, but first, the benign (and superfluous) stuff.
Making noise over something petty dilutes your validity. You risk seeming more concerned with being cute and clever than addressing any serious issue.
My complaint with George W. isn’t based on the fact that he’s a Republican, conservative or stupid, though I do believe these as well as many other things have contributed to actions that under any intelligent regime would be considered evil. My only difficulty in branding George W. as evil relates to my belief that the formula for evil includes brains. And Laura Bush doesn’t figure into it at all. She’s a dolly, a prop, a chatterbox. I don’t care.
