Eric, I have an inside scoop on this Plain Dealer story I think. I still need to verify it before I blab though. Hopefully I can do that and I will then get back to you.

If you can't verify it, just drudge it anyhow (that is a word now, right? :-)

Eric, outstanding piece! I can only speak definitively for the TEXAS newspapers...they don't surprise me. Those who are endorsing Mr. Kerry have quite sizable ethnic readership. Those endorsing W have a sizable ethnic population within their subscription area, but most are not subscribers...

This was an outstanding piece...I completely enjoyed it.

Have you seen the map at

    electoral-vote.com ?

It is quite graphic, and changes as things change...you might find it interesting, although I'm sure you have probably seen it and keep up with it.

Again, enjoyed the piece so much!

Considering the Leftist slant in most newspapers, I found it surprising that Bush was even close! 128-105 is hardly a rushing defeat among the liberal intelligensia...

RJ, it's actually quite a significant number. I read somewhere today [and now I can't find it -- or maybe I heard it on the radio -- ugh, memory loss at such an early age!] that newspapers have traditionally endorsed Republican candidates. So that fact that Kerry has the lead right now is a big deal, although I don't think it will mean much in terms of swaying the average voter.

I'll try to figure out where I saw/heard it ....

And, we just got a peek at why that is true, Bhw. Publishers are rich people or wealthy corporations. Editorial boards also tend to be pretty conservative. Having watched two papers break the Newspaper Guild, I have no illusions about where the sympathies of the elite who run the business of newspapering lie. Buying into the liberal media myth requires overlooking the fact that most media are part of big business.

Claire, I would be interested in seeing your data proving minorities don't read newspapers in Texas.

Correction: Proof minorities don't subscribe to newspapers in certain areas of Texas.
