Donald Sutherland - Unhinged

Donald Sutherland is a much-accomplished 70-year old actor. He is the father of another well-known actor, Kiefer Sutherland. He has been in Hollywood for several decades, and has enjoyed a great deal of success.

Some of his most memorable acting roles were in Space Cowboys, Fallen, Outbreak, Backdraft, Ordinary People, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Animal House, and The Day of the Locust.

He is currently co-starring in the TV drama Commander-in-Chief, which some have suggested is little more than a thinly-veiled free campaign ad for Hillary Clinton's inevitable Presidential candidacy in 2008.

And, oh yeah, I almost forgot: He recently, publicly, completely lost his marbles during a recent interview with the BBC.

From Drudge:

"They [the Bush administration] were inept. The were inadequate to the task, and they lied," Sutherland charged [regarding Hurricane Katrina].

"And they were insulting, and they were vindictive. And they were heartless. They did not care. They do not care. They do not care about Iraqi people. They do not care about the families of dead soldiers. They only care about profit."

At one point during the session, Sutherland started crying: "We stolen our children's future... We have children. We have children. How dare we take their legacy from them. How dare we. It's shameful. What we are doing to our world."

[...]

"We're back to burning books in Germany," Sutherland said of NBC's editing out of Kanye West's comment on Bush during a hurricane relief telethon.

Truly, the man needs to take a little bit of time off from the set to get a mental health evaluation...

Yes, indeed. Sounds like a rational man to me. funny how accepting and tolerant we are of greed, of the struggles of the poor. oh but, yes, i've lost my marbles, too.

"Some of his most memorable acting roles"

You must be joking. To include Space Cowboys, Fallen, Outbreak, and leave off M*A*S*H, Don't Look Now, Eye of the Needle and others illustrates that your knowledge of film matches your inadequacies in football and politics.

Why don't you take some time off from the site?

The interview was on Hard Talk. He was promoting his work on the latest 'Pride and Prejudice' but was prodded to comment on the actions that led to the war in Iraq but he did not start crying. He got emotional talking about the prospects for our children and their children. It all seemed much in proportion to me.

As for its impact ... I was moved by someone who expressed their feelings without trying to score points.

Donald better be careful, or he'll 24'S super agent Jack Bauer coming after him. Then he'll have something to cry about.

I find it interesting that Sutherland would mention the Swifties considering how involved he was with the VVAW in the late 60’s early 70’s.

Yes Victor, I could really see the boy having to come in and slap the old man once, "Come on Pops, you're hysterical. Get a grip on yourself."

Do I have this right - Bush greed = bad and Hollywood greed = good?

Are these the same people who worry the useless feeders might be able to copy some of their work without collecting royalties?

Again do I have this right - planet pollution = bad and mind pollution = good?

It is really scary that people let the morally void Hollywood crowd set the national agenda.

Why won't these people born in another country just go back and fix what is wrong with the country they born in (Donald Sotherland - Canada) and get out of ours and just shut there fat traps.

I find it interesting that the critics of Sutherland's comments have such intellectual responses. "Sutherland...needs a whack upside the head"... "Shut there fat traps"? First of all, it is "Shut THEIR fat traps", and second of all your statement is contradictory to what you believe. If you actually believed that he/they should go back to his/their country and fix the problems there, shouldn't you believe that we should do the same?

Mr. Sutherland was expressing his political views, which the last time I checked was allowed. His opinions are ones that many people share, and simply discounting him as whacked and crazy is not responsible.
There is nothing more annoying then this idea that just because you dislike the policies of the American government you are suddenly anti-American. This with us or against us attitude is dangerous and disgusting.

Sarah, I agree. We should be allowed to criticize the government. We should not allowed to criticize Donald Sutherland. It's anti-American.

That's right Suss. Donald Sutherland is obviously going through male menopause, and suffering hormonal changes. Don't you people have any sensitivity?

    >>If you actually believed that he/they should go back to his/their country and fix the problems there, shouldn't you believe that we should do the same?<<

Yes! We should go to Canada and fix their problems for them. Perferably with tanks.
