Does Live TV Have a Future?

After the Great Super Bowl Breastation, Bono at the Golden Globes, this dustup with John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) in the UK, and congress coming down on the FCC for "indecency" (even before Janet) - does truly live TV have a future?

The Lydon incident:

ITV has apologised after John Lydon said two extreme swearwords live on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.

ITV and media regulators Ofcom received 91 complaints by 1100 GMT on Wednesday, and the former Sex Pistols singer has been warned not to repeat the outburst.

An ITV1 spokeswoman said: "It was a live broadcast, so was unpreventable."

Lydon's words came as presenters Ant and Dec revealed he had survived the latest eviction vote - which saw ex-athlete Diane Modahl leave the show.

After Lydon's fit of anger, presenter Declan Donnelly told viewers: "We are very sorry for that. It's a live show. We are incredibly sorry."

The ITV spokeswoman added it was something the channel could not control.

"We apologise for any offence caused. It is a hazard of live shows and obviously we ask people not to swear or say anything inappropriate."

The vote result is broadcast live every night - but the channel is considering a time delay to allow them to bleep out unacceptable words. [BBC]
