Decoded: Scooter Libby's Coded Prison Letter To Judith Miller

Libby may have attempted to telegraph Miller’s testimony. In code, he may have told her to lie, absolve him, and throw Karl Rove under the bus.

Alphaliberal.comThe recently revealed letter that I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby sent to jailed-for-contempt reporter Judith Miller raises more questions than it answers. In something reminiscent of a spy novel, it even appears in sections that Libby is sending Miller a coded message.

The current criminal inquiry is looking into which persons leaked undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity to the public. Based on what is of public record, it appears Karl Rove leaked her identity to reporter Matt Cooper and others. Based on Miller’s recent testimony, it appears Libby was her source. It also remains to be seen whether Rove or Libby, or others, lied to investigators and thereby committed additional crimes.

But Libby’s letter is interesting. His closing paragraph reads as follows:

You went into jail in the summer. It is fall now. You will have stories to cover--Iraqi elections and suicide bombers, biological threats and the Iranian nuclear program. Out West, where you vacation, the aspens will already be turning. They turn in clusters, because their roots connect them. Come back to work---and life. Until then, you will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

In intermediate paragraphs he states as follows:

As noted above, my lawyer confirmed my waiver to other reporters in just the way he did with your lawyer. Why? Because, as I am sure will not be news to you, the public report of every other reporter's testimony makes clear that they did not discuss Ms. Plame's name or identity with me, or knew about her before our call . . .

Alphaliberal.comTo decipher this letter a theory must be first posited --the theory is this: Scooter Libby DID leak Plame’s identity to Judith Miller. Miller may have told Karl Rove who passed the information on to dozens of others, or Rove could be a leaker as well --and that remains to be seen.

Holy Toledo! Somebody in this twisted administration may rot in jail over Valerie Plame, I fervently hope. Talk about the arrogance of power! Mon Dieu!

I was unable to get the URL Rick lists above, but the big thing that is missing in your post is common sense. Libby is unlikely to send Miller anything that stupidly written, and it would serve no purpose if he did. You're reading too many dime-store comic books.

Valerie Plame's identity was outed to the Russians while Bill Clinton was President.

If Val was "outed" as people are saying, how did she function as an operative? This is a strange story indeed.

Can you elaborate on this suggestion? I've never heard this one before.

It was pretty widely reported back a few months ago when the case was in the media a lot, before the hurricanes and the Roberts hearings.
    Here's the

Speaking of Jeffy Gannon-Fleischer, he was at an anti-anti war rally in D.C. last week. In today's Jeff Gannon piece, "A Stealthy Court Pick," the dominating Gannon (devoid of his military fatigues and c-f-m government-issued boots) continues his unabashed love fest for this White House. In discussing the Miers nomination, Ms. Gannon says:

"When you peel away the top layer of beltway bloviation, the brilliant strategy becomes easier to see. Bush has worked closely with Miers for over a decade and knows her philosophy. Conservative critics point to her campaign contributions to Democrats in Texas in 1988 as some indication that she might have liberal tendencies. That may trouble some, but I am encouraged, since I know that a convert to a cause seems to adopt its principles with greater fervor than those who come to it naturally."
How unfortunate it is that this expert in Betway Bloviation adopts a position that betrays his own homosexual homies with a greater fervor than James Dobson at a Sisters of Sappho Convention.

It's hard for me to believe that Paul Wolfowitz's name has been left out of all of the talk about this Bush administration lying to the American people about their reasons for going to war (lies). Wolfowitz ( Now head of the World Bank) is clearly mixed up in the lies and deceptions within the Bush administarion and there is no closer friend to Irving Lewis "Scooter" Libby than Paul Wolfowitz.

How soon we forget! I wish that someone would mention Wolfowitz's role in all that has happened in this case that we have been reading about regarding the leaking of the name of a covert CIA agent ( Valerie Plame).

    Sinerely,

    Bill O'Neil
