Canada Is Invaded

...by the right wing.

Fox News coming to Canada.

Critics say that, far from being as "Fair and Balanced" as their slogan declares, the station is essentially a house organ for the Bush White House. Pointing to statistics which show that many more Fox viewers believe that Iraqis used weapons of mass destruction against invading U.S. forces, that the world backed the invasion and that Saddam Hussein was intimately connected to the terrorist attacks of September 2001, they argue that Fox is a source of misinformation more than news.

So all those folks who are leaving the US to escape the iron fist of the right wing, will find...well more of the same as soon as Fox News reprograms our neighbors to the north.

The station's commentators make no apologies for their views, arguing that they are a leavening influence in a media landscape dominated by "liberals" and other evils. Even Cable News Network, well to the right of most Canadian media, has been derided for not being hard line enough. Top Fox commentator Bill O'Reilly has dismissed The Globe and Mail as "a far-left newspaper."
The National Citizens Coalition welcomed Thursday's decision.

"Free speech ... also means having the right to hear other points of view," NCC vice-president Gerry Nicholls said. "The more voices and the more points of view Canadians hear the better."

Any Canadian blogcritics care to share your thoughts? Do Canadians know what they are getting?

Our man Doyle in the Globe and Mail says it is the best comedy show produced in the States.

What gets overlooked is that CanWest wanted to put it on one of their cable packages a couple of years ago, but gave up because it would just bleed money because nobody in Canada wanted to pay to watch the USA version of Pravda.

Just like Howard Stern got dumped because nobody was tuning to hear him after the initial novelty.

you guys need some balancing bias

    "bias"

That's a pretty fancy phrase for lying to you to reinforce your prejudice.

So, when will they sign up Don Cherry?

Since it's all about ratings, I bet Faux News will crash and burn in Canada, because for the most part people don't watch teevee to be screamed at by rabid 'murricans.

As I've posted elsewhere here, your underwear goes inside your pants.

Canada is not the free range for your crack-addled masses yearning to be free.

Just put the the people at Faux News into rehab, and we'll speak no more of it.

    Of course it is perfectly
OK to allow al-Jazerra to air in Canada.

Where is the outrage, and a fair and balanced debate on that.

Marc, point me, and the rest of us, to a single broadcast from "al-Jazerra" in Canada. A single channel, a single broadcast. You know you are lying, at least admit it.

Otherwise, you only look like the folks at Faux News: lying, evil bastards who wouldn't know news if if bit them on their tiny peckers.

Well Jim maybe they didn't broadcst in Canada but they sure did route a few terrorist thru your country on the way to Boston on 9/11. Thanks Jim for watching our backs!

Jim C I guess by the tone of your invective filled screed I don't have to play patty cake with you.

First of all start by enrolling in a reading comprehension course at a local college (or high school). Your skills are at a 4-5 grade level, maybe the course will asist you.

Secondly re-read my comment, then read it again.

Do you see it... do you see anywhere it is stated that al-Jazerra was, or currently, on the air in Canada? Given your comprehension handicap, I'll answer for you

    NO

In perfect harmony with my assertion ("Of course it is perfectly OK to allow al-Jazerra to air in Canada.") here is one story that outlines the approval of al-Jazeera broadcasts

Last week, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission announced that it had approved al-Jazeera, but required cable and satellite distributors to monitor its programs 24 hours a day. The agency also took an unprecedented step in allowing cable companies to alter or delete "abusive comments" from al-Jazeera programs. Currently, it is illegal for distributors to delete programming, but in this case, the commission made an exception.
    And here is another
Canadian viewers might soon be able to watch the Arabic Al-Jazeera network, after the federal broadcast regulator on Thursday approved the network's distribution by cable companies.
Now admit it Jim you were way off base.

    "at least admit it."

"Otherwise, you only look like the folks at Faux News: lying, evil bastards who wouldn't know news (or comprehend it like you) if bit them on their (your) tiny peckers."

I can't imagine Fox news doing well in Canada, especially not here in B.C. or any other province where you can see the ocean. I imagine some of the landlocked provinces might check it out a little, but here on the coast, most people I know think the Globe and Mail is too far to the right wing! I have no problem with Fox news or Al-Jazeera being broadcast in Canada, freedom of speech and broadcast is a basic rule for any free society. I just hope the majority of our population is intelligent enough to ignore them and get their news from better sources. I hold the same hope for those in the U.S. and around the world.

If I needed more justification for why I've never had cable or satellite teevee, this thread is it. I have some rabid little wiener expecting me to justify a teevee channel I have no interest in as a zero-sum game against another channel I have no interest in.

Marc, you smell bad, your mother dresses you funny, and oh, geez, did you just shit yourself? Even chickens can be taught to play tic-tak-toe, so you're nothing better.

I'm amazed that nobody is saying why are all these corporate channels getting the spectrum they have for free, to sell back to you. If you want to be outraged about something you ignorant little bullies, think about that.

If you don't like Faux News, don't buy it. If you don't like any other propaganda channel, don't buy it either.

But just shut up with the shilling, it even embarrasses pimps.

    Jim,

You called Marc a liar and you were mistaken...don't you owe him an apology?

btw, what is your facination for 'little dicks' got to do with anything?

  • 14 - Jim Carruthers

    Nov 19, 2004 at 5:40 pm

No, I don't owe him an apology since the station has never been broadcast in Canada, and the CRTC rules ensure it will not be be broadcast. And hateful propaganda channels are not a zero-sum game. It is stupid propaganda for stupid people no matter where it comes from. Hence, he is a liar, and not much brighter than a PERL programme which plays checkers.

So, what's your excuse Betty Windsor, you inbred trollop (albeit with magnificent breasts once upon a time in their prime).

    Marc,

I am afraid I will have to extend the apology for Jim. Not all canadians act this childish. It just that Jim suffers from 'Me dick's little' syndrome and sometimes he gets very angry with people. It's not about you Marc. You were right with your post. It's all about Jim and his 'problem'

    pity him

Jim-thanks for the compliment about my breast!!!!;)

Interesting how I have to justify to cowards what I post, when I use my real name, have a static IP, have ownership of a real domain, have a blog I run myself and hold myself accountable for what I post.

I thought the point of the internet was to make us smarter, not whine about how you are deprived of teevee which makes you stupid.

JIM "No, I don't owe him an apology since the station has never been broadcast in Canada,"

Still not signed up for that reading comprehension class as yet. That's OK I understand. I also understand your definition of free speech, despite your sheep bleats to the contrary, only include those that agree with your narrow viewpoint.

All others are subject to derision, invective, belittleing, namecalling and hate to the point of being a blithering idiot.

Note to Queen of England: Point taken, I grew up and spent 29 years in Detroit and spent much time in Windsor, Toronto and Montreal. Jim is only 1/10 of one percent of the total.

BTW, don't you have to have one to be afflicted with "'Me dick's little' syndrome?"

    I almost forgot Jim:

"I thought the point of the internet was to make us smarter, not whine about how you are deprived of teevee which makes you stupid."

That could be your problem, even those non-cable stations you watch ("I've never had cable or satellite teevee") has made you stupid beyond understanding my original post.

And BTW if you "never had cable or satellite teevee" how do you judge it as being "the USA version of Pravda" or full of "lying, evil bastards."

Second hand knowledge at best, guesswork at worst.

You would have fit right in living in Western Canada or Western USA in the 1800's when mail order brides were all the rage.

So does this mean if Fox News starts broadcasting in Canada, it will make those who watch it too stupid to post to tha internets?

In that case, go Faux News!

Since its defenders do nothing but engage in abuse, well, like the old Mighty Hercules cartoon show, "what a bunch of tools, Herc, bunch of tools."

    Gasp!

You mean Canadians, actual living, breathing Canadians, will soon be subjected to conservative-leaning news and commentary?

    Say it ain't so!

How DARE these neo-Nazis attempt to offer a counterpoint to the socialistic, anti-American views that are commonplace in most of the rest of the Canuck media!

    The horror, the horror...

Seems the database is going topless and random

Could one of you please explain to me how this runny brown stream of what passes for wit in your neck of the woods is supposed to inspire me to admire or even pay attention to what you have say?

Frankly, I'm baffled, because it seems like nothing more than the behavior of somebody pissing on the sidewalk, yelling, "what are you looking at?" when you are asked to not piss on the sidewalk.

You only seem to be committed to making things worse, and that's not so appealing. Mostly just to be avoided like toxic waste.

Of course, as examples of members of the USA as belligerent, abusive ignorant thugs, this is just prime.

Luckily, JC is a member of a tiny group of anti-American, almost-communist Canucks.

Most Canadians are decent, open-minded people.

    FOXNews will prosper there.

And JC will go berzerk...(as usual...)

Teevee is stupid. American teevee is stupidest of all. Except for Canadians who think being "open minded" is accepting degenerate American culture.
