Bush to Announce Supreme Court Nominee

Moments ago President Bush announced that this evening, in a televised address to the nation, he will reveal the name of his nominee for the Supreme Court. My prediction; based on the names that have been tossed around Washington recently, I concure with the predictions of the AP and Reuters that this evening George W. Bush will select Edith Brown Clement, a 5th circuit judge who Bush will pick Edith Brown due to her no-nonsense professional and conservative style. She also believes Roe V. Wade to be constitutionally protected right to privacy and does not intended to question that ruling at any point in the future.

The strange thing about this candidate is that we truly do not know her record. She has left no paper trail and does not intend to. Be sure to tune into your local tv station at 9pm est this evening to hear the real news.

This was accelerated a wee bit from the first timetable. Anything to get Rove out of the headlines - and it will for a little while.

Meanwhile Fitzgerald will continue to work.

    BTW "Edith"

Sounds 19th century to me ...

(... that would be a joke.)

OK, take a deep breath. President Bush may very well select a nominee that won't be so divisive and my prediction will come to fruition. Could this be the beginning of the rehabilitation of Geroge Walker Bush, 42nd President of these United States?

Hey, I have an Aunt Edith, and she's a hip and contemporary chick for a 70-something.

Bush is still and always a moderate. His other court nominees have been reasonable, which is why their staunch opposition hurt the Dems so much. I imagine we can expect and equally reasonable SC nomination from him.

Then when the Dems try to Bork the nominee for no good reason they will lose more seats in 2006 and look like the petty partisan whores they have proven themselves to be.

Come on Dave, there are partisan whores on the Republican side. Karl Rove is their pimp and G.W. Bush is Rove's bitch. The way to reel in the political prostitution is to force sane campaign reform upon the Capitol.

Well of course, Silas. I didn't say there aren't. But in this case they're not the problem.

I'll concede that point, Dave. I'm so tired of Democrats singing, "It's My Party and I'll Cry if I Want to..." Get over it. Do something proactive. Give us some bold new visions. Grow a collective set of balls to match those of Howard Dean.

    Edith has a nickname: "Joy".

Hmmm, we'll see if that moniker is appropriate. But I must say my expectations and hopefulness are abysmally low at this point. Of course the Shrub will make his announcement just in time to interrupt my planned TV show watching tonight. I am pissed.

We could use some 'Joy' on the court to balance out Ruth 'The Lemon' Ginsberg.

That's odd, Temp. It was a reasonably good post. What's the deal with that. Maybe a better version with more info is coming?

Never saw the initial post and wondered why there was no text. I jus figured the author just wanted to raise the topic, kinda like an "open-thread" situation. What did it say?

Washington politicians are whispering and speculating on whom President Bush has chosen as his nominee to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. President Bush makes his announcement in the heart of prime time television tonight. This smells like a smokescreen away from the attention paid toward Karl Rove the last few days. I'm still holding out - believing that G.W. Bush will nominate a person that those on the left and right will have difficulty demonizing.

Prepare ye the way of the Conservative Christians, fellow brethren. Regardless of the nominee, they shall be out in force, especially in the Bible Belt. Millions of followers' hard earned tithes will be laundered into a political war. The Supreme Court is not the Temple of Justice in Heaven nor is it God's representative on Earth. A Holy War over this issue in America reduces us to the narrow mindedness of fundamentalists throughout he world who are attempting to install theocratic governments upon people who should be free.

There's two Ediths on the La. Court of Appeals. Go figure. Confusion?

Edith Brown Clement mentioned above has been ruled out.

For one joyous moment after I read her name I thought it said Clampett :-)

The other would be Edith Jones, whom the Village Voice calls either the Federalist Society pinup girl or the horsewoman of the right-wing apocalypse.
