As usual, picky, picky, picky eb.

Dave meant without armed conflict; without disruption of the continuity of the government.

But you knew that; you just like disagreeing with Dave.

    Small minds...

    STM,

Your thoughts are inspiring. Enjoy your brief retrieve. I, too, wish I could get lost somewhere in the midst of happy thoughts. Let's hope the spirit is lasting.

You would have us believe armed conflict is not violent? Interesting concept. So then Dave was apparently just repeating himself in that sentence.

I don't "like" disagreeing with him, but he doesn't leave people much of a choice with some of his statements. Besides the position of Dave's water carrier appears filled.

Not nearly as interesting as your implication that a controversy during the 2000 election qualifies as "conflict" in the sense that Dave obviously meant it.

Besides the position of Dave's water carrier appears filled.

If you mean me, thanks for the compliment. As I recall, Gunga Din was a water carrier. Good company.

    You squidgy-nosed old idol, Clavos.

I'm reminded of the hoary old joke, Jordan:

    "Do you like Kipling?"

    "I don't know, I've never kippled."

Well, apart from the civil war. Even so, the United States never ceased to be as an entity.

Ah, Stan. You missed that I said 43, not 44.

Without conflict? I know it's been a while, but Google "2008 Presidential campaign" or "Bush v. Gore" for a refresher.

There is actually a difference between disagreement, argument and actual conflict. Conflict is a broad term, but it's obviously a higher level of confrontation than what we had in 2000 or 2004.

But read it any way you want. Even if I'm being redundant the point is still valid.

    Dave, Math 101:

There have been 44 presidents. How many transitions between presidents have there been?

    :-D

Oh hell, you're right, Dr. D. So let me be absolutely clear. Obviously the civil war was NOT a peaceful transition of power. Ok.

    DD: "Dave, Math 101:"

You've been over there too long, Doc, you're starting to sound like one of the natives.

    It's "Maths 101", remember? Queen's English?

But you know what ... I wouldn't leave this country to live anywhere else (with the possible exception of Hawaii) for quids, but I wish I'd been over there today in the US drinking the whole thing in first hand.

I can't remember Americans (overall) and the watching world being so excited about a transition since the end of Vietnam and the Nixon era.

Obviously, some aren't, but hey, that's democracy.

    Everyone gets their turn, eventually.

For a moment, I thought the new President might announce that "business is not the solution to the problem, business IS the problem". Or maybe "Banking is not the solution to the problem,...", etc.

We seem to have exchanged one oppressor for another.

They were singing in the streets, "We are family, America, Obama and me."

It's pretty clear what people want. I hope when the time comes, they'll be able to make choices that will get them what they want.
