Ayodhya - Page 2

The outcome of the Ayodhya issue will be important to my generation, it will either herald a closure to an issue that has been chewed, ruminated and discussed far too many times, or will be the beginning of a new divide.
The maturity of the public is at stake as we accept the decision by a government that has been elected for us, by us and which is comprised of us, and the grace with which we do so will be critically examined by the coming generation and the ones after that.
It’s a moment when history will be made by the best of our actions, which may or may not result in peace, but will always be remembered as the stepping stone for bridging gaps.

So well written was this article that it caught my attention; I did some modest research and here is what we have:
The Gogra River runs through Ayodhya, India. At times that river is called the Ghaghara, or the Saryu. Ayodhya is one of the most ancient, magnificent and holy of Hindu cities. Bathing in the Gogra, it is said, will destroy even the deadliest of sins.
Lord Vishnu took human form in Ayodhya, as 'Shri Rama'; ‘Shri Rama' is associated with idealism, selfless devotion, & piety. At some point Muslims built a mosque at the site of the birthplace of Hindu Diety-become-man, ‘Shri Rama’. There may have been a Hindu temple on that site which was demolished or modified to build the Mosque. In December of 1992, the Muslim Mosque was destroyed during a political rally which turned into a riot, by "Hardline Hindu activists."
Now it would appear, the Government of India is about to make a decision as to which Holy group, Hindu or Muslim will control the area; will use the site to worship.
According to the article here, from Pooja Wanpal, a BC writer, the outcome "will either herald a closure or begin a new divide.”
The final paragraphs of Pooja Wanpal's article speak for themselves of patience and a high level of faith to which we might all aspire.
