Have you peeked yet Clav? Got a question for you. What was your branch of service, rank and duty stations? If you outrank me you can tell me to drop and give you twenty. Should I outrank you, well figure it out Clav. Before you answer I will tell you I had almost 18 years of service with the US Army. Please dont call me a fool. I call myself that each day. Not because of my service. Im just your every day ordinary drunk. Happy Day my man.

Army. E-5. Ft. Jackson, Ft. Gordon, Ft. Dix, Ft. Leonard Wood, Vietnam (II Corps).
US, not RA.
I'm sure you outrank me, but if I drop and give you twenty at my age, you'll be responsible for my death.
Think about it.

What years did you serve (when to when)? And how come you got out two years short of retirement?

Dear Mr Clavos. My respect for your service finds me at a disadvantage. If I had to drop down and give you twenty at my age you would be responsible. Will not tell you my rank other then to say you would do the pushups and I shall leave it at that. I know Ft. Jackson and Ft. Gordon well and they both suck just like Ft. Benning Ga as much as Ft. ("Little Korea") Leonardwood Mo. Thats enough of this shit. Later. Just have a great weekend.

Shoulda beat the draft like Limbaugh (medical deferment for a boil on his ass) or Cheney (five seperate deferments), Clavvy.
But then again, they were both from powerful, rich, influential families, weren't they?

REMF, I was in fear of someone asking me this question. Please allow me to think about it before I answer. My mistake was saying almost 18 years which is true. For certain I have some dignity left in me although Im a drunk. I will not air my dirty laundry for all to see. Let me just say I have been in the P ward three times. Thats all I have to say on this.

Don't know, but it certainly wasn't a pre-requisite; most of my buddies from high school managed to stay out of both the service and VN, and none of them were from rich and powerful families. Some of 'em were pretty creative about it, too.
It actually was pretty easy to stay out.

I'm gonna disagree with ya there a little bit, pard; but only because of the different eras, I think. I can't speak about your time in like '64-66 or area, but later on around '69-71, (I graduated HS in '70) and in my neck of the woods, it was not that easy to avoid. You either needed to have some money, power, connections or go to college to get out of it. Or a medical excuse - real or phony, either way. Or go to Canada. I knew some guys who even graduated college and still got drafted and ended up over in 'Nam.

"go to college to get out of it. Or a medical excuse - real or phony, either way. Or go to Canada. " All pretty easy.
Or Sweden. Or anywhere in Latin America (except Mexico-we have FBI there). All of these were easy.
Some guys even pulled off conscientious objector with little sweat (3 of my friends did this one).
The easiest one: tell 'em you're gay.
Bottom line: if you didn't want to go and were resourceful enough, you didn't have to.
In fact, of the crowd (10-12 guys) I hung around with in HS, I'm the only one who was drafted and served.
