Our political differences or preferences make it easy for the politicians of all hues to blind us to the real issues at hand. One is a hawk and the other a pansy and both do not address the main issue at hand - how do they plan to protect the public within their own turf? They use national security as a cloak for their economic and social failures. What training measures have been taken in case of biological attack? (and duct tape isn't the answer). At least in the Cold War, we all knew our assigned bunkers:)
Our cops and fire fighters are given poor pay and are stretched to the limit. Waterworks, etc. remain unprotected. The list goes on and so does my paranoia, and I feel that its time we as concerned citizens should start some sort of grass root protests to get the attention of these pimps of power that call themselves politicians. We are treated like street whores. They take our money, show us a non-existent utopia and live off us while we grind our asses on the streets of mundane jobs and fall prey to ever increasing debts.
Funneling money and man power into Iraq might work in the long run in stabilizing that area but what does it do for us, the common Americans who might be blown up while traveling in the local bus or shopping at the mall?
Does subjugation really stop these terrorists from being born or merely strengthen their cause and help them garner more support in the name of being called 'freedom fighters'?
It's time we tried to understand the global culture that seems to be evolving without us as a part of it. We seem to becoming more and more insular in our thinking. It's us against the world. But why haven't we stopped to think why international animosity is increasing while we remain a gentle nation that love our children and pets?
To combat these terrorists we need to fight them on their grounds as citizens of America and not leave it to our politicians and diplomats by having more cultural exchanges. Visiting international universities, holding dialogues and pulling up our media for the hawkish macho stance they seem to have taken and make Arnold seem like a blubbering pansy. These are just some practical ways that we can make our presence be seen in a favourable light.
