Re your post #71:
Isn't "empty headed teenager" a redundancy?
And Joey, if you want a decent democratic ticket you may have a problem.
They've been in this defensive, self-destructive and bitter mode for so long now that it's become ingrained in the party. Leaders like Rahm Emanuel of the DCCC are making sure that only extremist partisans get elected to office, so there's no pool of experienced leaders who aren't tainted by extremism.
The party may win in 2006 and 2008 because of Bush's failures, but they aren't really going to recover from their self-destruction for a generation or more. And if they do win the whitehouse in 2008 I bet it will end up being a disastrous 4 years before they are voted out.

I don't believe for a second that this comment will change anyone here, but I want to share it regardless. I'm a politically active person, and actually my standing doesn't matter in the slightest regarding what I have to say.
It's conversations like this that offend me and make me realize why America won't be fixed anytime soon. It's broken, and it's not the current administration or congress. It's us. It's the fact that people think it's acceptable to have conversations like this. It's because while you're typing your comments you forget that you aren't alone in your dimly lit rooms and that what you choose to say is directed at an individual and is 'broadcast' to the globe. We[America] have taken the role of leadership in the world, and it's people like us that are electing the folks that make the choices and carry them out. I honestly don't care what your stance is on Gore, but can see simply by the way the conversation digresses and becomes a blur of mildly offensive attacks, that we're the problem.
I'm actually sick that I sound like a hippy right now, so please, take a moment and realize that a 22 year old highschool drop-out(who has a myspace profile) is calling on you to think for a moment and realize that we're the problem, and that until we learn how to have something as simple as a respectful conversation with people, that you've never met, who have different opinions, we'll never contribute anything but strife.
I think Al Gore did at least do something interesting... I believe he helped give us a medium in which we can see where the problem is. I seriously hope that my generation is smart enough not to learn from yours.
And now that my hippy rant is over, please feel free to respond with the same as what's above.

USA... you paint a rosy pictures of hippydom. It wasn't like that... well maybe for a year. Even the hippies saw the seachange, the addictions piling up, the homelessness of the flower children once College money dried up and they were no longer hanging on to apron strings for a living. The REAL hippies ran their game for about a year... did a little counterculture stuff, got part time jobs in book stores, cafe's etc... but for the most part they were college students, skipping classes, protesting, dropping, smoking, stealing etc... but there was no productivity there.
A hollywood vision of what was happening on the streets isn't reality. And you may need a reality check on the scene which you have enamoured yourself to. Seriously.
I don't think the American voter/taxpayer is the problem. We vote, we pay taxes and then the money is misspent, and the politican's whom we voted, are suddenly out of accord with what we (the voter/taxpayers) voted them in for.
Politics has become a chessmatch. It is also the only game in town. Don't vote? Then you get what you didn't vote for. Sadly, it seems apparent that IF you vote... you still don't get what you voted for.
Don't blame the little people of this nation, blame the movers and shakers... they're holding the wheel of the great ship of state. And as far as I'm concerned they're off course.
I went through this phase a number of years ago, where I would write my representatives on subjects I didn't agree with. I did get responses. But NEVER in agreement with what I was disatisfied with... and I don't complain or whine. It became very apparent that either I was out of step. Or, the representatives were operating on their own accord. That was the epiphany for me. I haven't been the polically same since.
So what do I do? I vote. But it's not making a difference.

The little people, by their involvement or lack thereof, put the movers and shakers in power, so yes, they are to blame. All the taxpayers don't vote and those who do sit by and accept the candidates and their actions put before them.

Joey(#82/#83): I'm not a hippy (in fact you can see my annoyance that I even begin to sound like one), but I don't think getting into that will help you understand my point. Because, as RogerMDillon(#85) noted, you missed it. Thank you for the history lesson though, as I think it's wise to learn from the previous generations mistakes, and will continue to work towards my goal for my community and hopefully, eventually, my country.
As far as the diploma thing, I feel I should explain since you seem concerned for my financial wellbeing. I do have a GED, but that doesn't take away the fact that I'm a dropout. I've worked for organizations such as CNN (and other high profile companies). I've lived in Chicago, Atlanta, and Denver and now I'm a founder/owner of technical company with three partners (and now 16 employees), which has also been faily lucritive. I've done this all in 5 years. If you think a degree/diploma is required to succeed in life you're mistaken. I'm well aware that this is a common belief, however I'm hoping that explaining this will help you understand that a peice of paper doesn't get a person places, determination does. I have a better chance of succeeding more than others my own age because I'm forced to acheive what I want, I never ever expect it to come to me. The difference between waiting for the apple to fall from the tree so you can pick it up, and plucking the one you want. More than slightly different than a hippy, no?

Well shut ma mouth! I totally missed it.
Hippies didn't sound like much. They like to cop and blow there minds and talk crap. Most were so counterculture, they became charactures of themselves... Maoists, Marxists, Anarchists, it was terrible. So if that is what you mean by starting to sound like one, I caution that perhaps a better metaphor is needed, less you accidently lump yourself into that miry category.
I said political discourse should be more then insults back up in #76
I didn't write A letter... I wrote hundreds. Mostly to my representatives in Virginia (at the time). Along with committee chairs and a few others. Every lettered was answered, with what I considered to be the wrong answer. That's when I felt disenfranchised.... the people I had voted for, were not representing me.
USA I'm glad you got a GED, but I disagree about not continuing education. Lifelong learning plays a crucial role in today's job market. I also agree that it's a paper chase in many respects. And in an ideal world Valéry is probably correct. I also agree that if you are a small business person, and your business is thriving, then you are probably doing something correctly and do not really need an MBA to keep a landscaping business (or what ever) running in the black. But one could argue that computer skills are needed, application savvy is required etc...
I can't get politically active... the whole process is out of control. The media bias (I think the media should be entirely neutral), the ad campaign, the stumping, the BS... it's gut wrenching to witness every candidate bow to a general consensus on 2 or 3 subjects, in order for the press to qualify them.
I know there are many very intelligent, forthright people out there who would make excellent leaders in this country. But they don't want to put themselves, or their families through the excruciating test that has come to be known as the political process. Therefore the common folk get stuck.
Forgive my ranting. The apples I pluck are community based outreach to those in need.

Joey(#88): I feel the same way you do, but I choose to maintain my efforts, because if we don't, who will?
Al Gore isn't the solution, but his actions (if he chooses to run or not) are part of the process in which it would seem America needs to undergo to make any progress. I don't really care about if it's right or left, but rather, the process in which we get there. The lies and, as you put it, misrepresentation, is what I'm offended by as well. Al Gore has a platform from which he can get things communicated, some of which I agree, and some of which I do not. In either case, I would prefer to have someone whom has never given me reason to mistrust (slander aside), acting in what appears to be at minimum, an attempt at opening peoples eyes.
On a side note, my previous post explains that my company is a 'technical' company... Try for a moment to get beyond the idea that someone who dropped out of highschool could only be suited for lawn care. I'm a programmer and systems architect, not a landscaper. The CNN center didn't have a need for landscapers -- no lawns, so I had to step up my technical knowledge. Nah, that's a joke, this has always been my passion.

Al Gore is not part of any process that America must undergo to put our current state of polarizing politics to bed in the same way that Jeb Bush is not.
What America needs in our next president, wether he be Dem or Rep, is a man with absolutley no connections with either of the past two administraitions.
I'd like to point out Arch is that if you go into the game not knowing the rules or the foibles of the players, you're bound to lose.
And what he won't admit is if the 2000 election were rerun today, Gore would've won by a landslide.

Do something, and in fact, if you're in my area(Denver) I can probably find something for you to do. Let me know if you're interested in contributing something more worthwhile than complaints and trading 'mild insults' in a blog comment stream. Step up and pluck the fucking apple, because waiting for it to drop in your lap doesn't seem to be making you any happier.

The apples I pluck are community based outreach to those in need.

political discourse should be more than insults
Absolutely, Roger, this is a standard that all should aspire to! Otherwise it's all meaningless jabber and a waste of everyone's time... right?

92 - Arch Conservative
Al Gore is not part of any process that America must undergo to put our current state of polarizing politics to bed in the same way that Jeb Bush is not.
What America needs in our next president, wether he be Dem or Rep, is a man with absolutley no connections with either of the past two administraitions.
93 - Jet in Columbus
I'd like to point out Arch is that if you go into the game not knowing the rules or the foibles of the players, you're bound to lose.
And what he won't admit is if the 2000 election were rerun today, Gore would've won by a landslide.
94 - JustOneMan
Jet..."o contraire"...Now that America truly knows Al Gore their is no way he could ever run for public office..his "chicken little" campaign in just reinforcing his image...all he is doing is telling us how bad thins are and how much we have to change while he rides aroung with a his followers in a parade of limos and private jets..
I am not saying a Dem wont win the presidential election but it wont be the 2 political foot notes of EGore and Kerry...they are not leaders!
95 - Jet in Columbus
As you handle professes that's just one man's opinion. Right now 70 out of every 100 Americans would disagree with you.
96 - Clavos
Jet,
Are you eliminating Hillary?
97 - Jet in Columbus
No no I'd vote for her in a heartbeat, especially if she ran with Joe Biden or Al Gore as VP. I'm just saying that if Bush vs Gore were run again today Gore would win in a landslide based on Bush's 29 percent approval ratings.

Jet, maybe you would vote for Hillary in a heartbeat, but she killed her husband's health insurance initiative and she hugged Suha Arafat. That says all I need to hear...
I don't know if I'll be able to vote in the 2008 election (if it takes place) but looking across the sea to Americaland leaves me with very little hope indeed for your fair country...

Why are you guys arguing about hypothetical hindsight presiential races that have no bearing on reality?
The fact is the right hates the Clintons and the left hates the Bushes so both parties would be best to steer clear of any assoiciation to these two camps when putting someone on the ticket in 2008. What's so hard to understand about that?

29%Arch asks "Why are you guys arguing about hypothetical hindsight presiential races that have no bearing on reality?"
Answer: for the same reason you are!
Just because you self-righteously declare something as fact, doesn't make it so you moonbat!

I pasted the "Solus mei sententia

Jet'
That's the only thing I pasted on this one, the codes for the underline and bold were these

Are there bats on the moon now? Who put 'em there, NASA? Oh, no--I forgot: NASA never got there.
That's it! There are bats in the desert, right?
104 - Jet in Columbus
Clavos, 29%Arch support started calling everyone a "moonbat" on other strings I thought it'd be rude not to return the compliment!
Bush is shipping them to the moon on and Indian Rocket soon, just look click on this... on my article on the subject

Ruvy,
Please keep your vote in Israel! Dual citizenship is a farce...in NYC they are trying to allow illegals to vote in local elections..."slippin and slidin into the third world" Bob Grant
Thanks!

Hey Arch...the reason tha the dems and libs are playing Fantast Elections is that its been so long since the won they can remember what it was like...
He Arch... Heres a couple a little closer to reality..I wonder who would win "Mothra" or EGore? or maybe EGore against Thor and his Magic Hammer?
Id say EGore beats Mothra 75/25 by using his Sleep Ray - all he has to do is talk and Mothra will counting sheep ...but I think Thor could beat EGore 80/20 no problem...
109 - Arch Conservative
If the Dems run Hillary or Gore in 2008 they lose.
End of story.
Also I don't see how one can make the logical inference that because Bush's pol numbers are low people would vote for Gore for president.
110 - JustOneMan
Arch...Exactly the Polls are a refelction of Bush's perceieved performance and lack of MSM support...
111 - Jet in Columbus
As usual you're Bushit is consistant, the polls are irrevelent if they're against you. As I recall Bush had a "Mandate from the People" with only a little over 55 percent of the popular vote.
Keep living in your alternate reality. I hear it's fun...

we'll see who's laughing come november. The only reason Bush hasn't been impeached is because no one wants Cheney as president and Frist as his vice president.

Yeah, it looks like you'll be slippin' and slidin' into the Third World all right...
Given that I do have dual citizenship, Glen, I might as well try to do what I can to keep some two faced idiot like Hillary from the Oval Vibrator - I mean Office.
The reason is simple. These emperors of yours may get elected in America, but they seem to stomp on our heads.
115 - Jet in Columbus
Ruvy why all the hate speeches about America lately?

Oops, that wasn't Glen, it was "Just One Man!" My sincerest apologies - to both of you!!

Jet, did you read my piece "Dependence Day" and especially comment 11? If you didn't read it - and you'll understand...
118 - JustOneMan
Jet...I never new you were of the Impeach Bush part of the party...It does clear things up for me though...The reason that Bush will not be impeached becaus it has ZERO support in your party or in the US...You cannot impeach a president because you just dont like them...the guy won not once BUT twice...It would be politcal sucide to impeach Bush...the Dems do not want to have their faces on 24/7 in the middle of an election cycle...The DEMs in power understand the more citizens see and hear them the worse their chances are of winning the white house...
119 - JustOneMan
Ruvy..whatever I dont like it when people who pledge their alligence to another country are allowed to vote in US elections...
120 - Jet in Columbus
Bush won just barely on both counts and it took the supreme court to do it once.
Clinton was impeached but cleared on all charges that started the whole thing in the beginning.
