Administration complains about trying to pack Supreme Court with pro-administration majority...

The multiple ironies involved in this statement coming from our administration are mind boggling...

''The State Department accused Venezuela on Wednesday of ''packing'' it's Supreme Court to ensure a pro-government majority and said the move calls into question the country's commitment to judicial independence.'' From: US Assails Venezuela's High Court Scheme

From the same article: ''We think that separation of powers is an intrinsic part of democracy that is respected throughout Latin America and throughout the international community,'' he (State Department spokesman Richard Boucher ) said.''

Hasn't this person heard from George Bush's appointees about how judges are treated in America? America, where if a judge dares to have an actual separate opinion from the administration they are dangerous according to George Bush's Attorney General John Ashcroft?

''Ashcroft - still the acting Attorney General — warned of a ''profoundly disturbing trend'' of federal judges tending to ''second guess'' presidential determinations on legal questions.'' From: The Attorney General, the White House Counsel, and the Sun King: Why Alberto Gonzales Is Likely to Be Merely a Kinder, Gentler Ashcroft

Did the State Department speaker really get through his statement without cracking himself up? I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face with a whopper like this one.

My ability to suspend disbelief is tested each and every day...

Venezuala will be interesting to watch in the coming years, especially as they align themselves closer to Castro and Cuba (see BBC News)... the administration already has already been trying to undermine Chavez, as we know, and this latest interference in their internal affairs does not surprise.

What I really find amazing is...

That you're not a down-the-line super conservative with a moniker like "Big Time Patriot."

    1. Good for you
    2. Agreed on the Venezuela statement
    3. Am I still scared about the courts, with 48.5 months left in Bush II - The Sequel? Yes I am.
