9/11 Forgotten as the War of Cultures Continues - Comments Page 7

I feel like I've written all these words before, but the lotus eaters still are not listening.

"We have to understand that we're fighting a war against people who think that they are engaged in a cosmic battle between the forces of good and evil. They believe that this is not an earthly battle. This is a war between the forces of Christianity and the forces of Islam." - Reza Aslan
After six years it almost goes without saying that we have forgotten the events and the significance of 9/11. While we may still have a memory of what happened, more than enough time has passed to dull the emotional reaction we felt on that day and blunt the resolve which we felt to see justice done. Other events have happened since then, other concerns and other issues have arisen which occupy our conscious minds most of the time. In the moment six years ago we had a clarity of vision which now eludes us. We understood things then which are now obscure, because six years is a very long time for basically decent people to hold onto the purifying anger of the moment.…

    Maurice,

I'm a Peterson fan, too. Hadn't seen that clip before; very nice.

And, just one comment before going for a delicious lunch: The US has now killed more Iraquis than Saddam Hussein did.

    Congratulations, barbarians!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the link. I had not heard of Bill before. Have you heard of Gene Harris? Check him out. You might like him. We were lucky when he retired here in Boise. Now we have an annual Jazz Festival in his honor.

Ah shit, his own private Idaho.

    Again.

Yet he didn't even know that CDA is both a city in Idaho and a Native American tribe.

    Nice work, tenderfoot.

I come from that country and I know horseshit when I see it.

    And baby, it's you.

    Badadadadadada.....

    Maurice,

Yes, I am aware (and very much like) Gene Harris's work, in large part because I'm also a Ray Brown fan.

Have you seen this rendition of Summertime?

Also, if you're not already familiar with it, I listen a lot online to KPLU in Seattle, which plays good jazz (and some good blues, too) 24/7.

If you have broadband, give it a listen; I think you'll like it.

And lastly, here's an interesting clip from this year's Gene Harris Jazz Festival. The audio is not so good (it's amateur made), but it's fun.

    Enjoy!

I only like Magic Delete Wands when they're imaginary.

If this sort of thing escalates our enemies will be closer to home than Tehran. :(

Sure looks like a set-up to me.

The kid must be a serious drama student; he's certainly got the histrionics down pat.
