LAPD swept through the May Day Immigration Reform Protest at MacArthur Park, causing panic and assaulting attendees and several media spokesman and journalist. It has to be one of the most blatant cases of excessive force used by the LAPD, and was probably recorded by more people than any other example of police misconduct and aggressiveness.

Police began clearing the park after alleged attacks by protesters throwing bottles. Rubber bullets were fired at protesters and journalists, as the police cleared the park with multiple cameras’ rolling, capturing incredible scenes of the confrontation. Fox11 LA, Telemundo and Univision are a few of the news agencies that were present covering May Day.

While Univision reporters were setting up interviews, shoots rang out from the LAPD and batons started swinging. FOX 11's Christina Gonzalez and her videographer, Patti were close by filming and were also assaulted by the police with the camera’s filming everything. There were so many cameras rolling that they all caught each other in a odd panoramic landscape, with bits and pieces showing the entire area from multiple angles.

Several camera men, reporters and media personnel are filmed being hit with batons and having their equipment snatched from their hands and tossed away. The clips of the incident speak for themselves as this small protest was brought to a terrifying end. The Radio and Television News Association is demanding an investigation, and planning on conducting its own investigation.

Nick Napolitano's pic of May DayChief William Bratton has issued a statement regarding the incident, and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa also issued statements, calling the police reactions unfortunate. Villaragosa is in the unenviable position of having to speak on the actions of the LAPD, while he is in El Salvador, meeting with business leaders and discussing ways of boosting revenue in their countries and eliminating gang violence. Instead of answering his planned questions, he will now have to face questions regarding immigration policies and police brutality in his city. The violent reaction by LAPD was surprising for a number or reasons.

The fact that it happened at all, considering the lower than expected numbers of protesters attending, is another odd factor to this story. If the May Day Rally had as many people as was expected, it might have been much worse. Stay tuned for more info on the Los Angeles May Day Immigration Rally protest and police disturbance.

About QRock639

  • Dr Dreadful

The IQ of American police officers is scandalously low compared to those of other nations, Clav. They have yet to figure out that throwing buttons at demonstrators doesn’t work nearly as well as smashing their heads in with those big shiny sticks they carry on their belts.

  • in the shape of police’s buttons

So THAT’S what those tiny little round dents in my head are from!

And all along I thought I had to worry about police batons.

  • Dr Dreadful

Kurt’s job as a Hitler Youth leader obviously leaves him with too much time on his hands…

  • Ignorance is it’s own reward – demonstrated once again.

  • kurt schmeitzer

your police force is doing a right thing in educating you what your american regime and your country really is

for your government an illegal immigrant or an American-born slave who works in your shitty slavish environment 12 hours per day for water and bread are the same value

your brainless heads were unable to understand that there are no “illegal aliens” on planet earth because the whole planet became American property and “area of American interests”

your policemen were acting as roman legionnaires kicking out slaves’ brains from spartacus’s comrades because you allowed them to consider living people in your evil country as animals and soulless objects

    you Americans deserved it!

you allowed your government to kill innocent people all around the globe invade sovereign countries impoverish and enslave entire continents

now your government gave you a lesson teaching you that you are “an invaded territory” Iraqis within America slaves and bastards

is bush’s or one of his jewish mentors’ son or daughter was in the crowd the police would not attack you! obviously! you Americans don’t like the truth that’s why the truth has to knock into your silly heads in the shape of police’s buttons

  • Ruvy in Jerusalem

When you are Jewish, a little paranoia is a healthy thing.

Right now, a war is going on here. Hamas has been launching upwards of 20 rockets a day since Independence Day in April, concentrating on driving out the residents of the city of S’derot. The Israeli government, under orders of the United States, is doing nothing to stop them.

The world press covers this only if and when Israeli forces do retaliate, and only if and when there are Arab casualties.

Poor bastards. They attack us, we restrain our forces under orders of the successors of the perfidious British, the backstabbing Americans, and only when the Arabs get killed do your reporters rush in to say anything.

  • Dr Dreadful

Ruvy, I acknowledge that as a Jew you’ve got more right to be paranoid than most of us, but sometimes (and I’ve thought this about a number of your posts and comments) you seem to be jumping at shadows. As Dan just pointed out, he made up the swastika hatpin thing; and while it is true that Di’s boys did once don SS uniforms, it was a frickin’ costume party, for cryin’ out loud. I don’t think you’re going to see Will ‘n’ Harry’s right arms shooting out uncontrollably à la Dr Strangelove any time soon.

In my opinion, putting on Nazi uniforms can be funny, if the reason you’re doing it is to ridicule them. Mel Brooks has done it to great effect, many times; as did the classic BBC sitcom ‘Allo ‘Allo, set in occupied France. That’s not why the Princes were doing it, so I’ll give you that that one was in poor taste.

  • Dan

    Boy, Ruvy got going there.

    Who knew?

I suspect there is an alternative reading of events. His seems a little harsh. I’m not qualified to know.

Sure has a lot of factual content. Rendered with passion too. Good job Ruvy.

That hatpin thing was, in fact, me going overboard to stress a point. It’s a defense mechanism. So “swastika hat pin” is not factual.

  • Nancy

Chris Rose: Occasional paragraphs & parts of lines will drop out of my on-screen text. Has anybody else observed or complained about this? So for example, in #94 I got the first 2 paragraphs, then the first & last lines only of PP3. Very strange. It doesn’t occur with any other site I frequent except BC.

  • Ruvy in Jerusalem

    Dr. Dreadful,

A tiny swastika on the hat of a woman of no real significance is just that – tiny, unimportant, insignificant.

What is significant is that the British stabbed my people in the back – just as they have stabbed so many other peoples in the back, Arabs included. They did not actively kill 6,000,000 European Jews – the Nazis did that. But they made sure, by virtually shutting the door of the Mandate for a Jewish National Home that they had responsibility for, that those Jews would be there to kill – kind of like the fellow with the white gloves who locks the stall so that the cattle can’t get out when the slaughterer comes – and then lets out a few calves and calls himself a humanitarian.

Looking at it all from the point of view of one who used to be an American, I think the Americans did a very wise thing to cut themselves off from the British crown and Empire. They gave themselves a real opportunity for greatness – and for a while looked as though they might even fulfill their potential.

  • Dr Dreadful

It is no great surprise that your Queen should sport a tiny swastika in her hat.

    Ruvy, Dan was being sarcastic.

In much the same way that an elephant pissing on its keeper is being sarcastic – but nevertheless.

  • Ruvy in Jerusalem

Well, Stan, I finally returned from J-lem with some food for Sabbath meals. So I can return to your observations.

    1. Hitler made it absolutely clear what he intended to do to Jews if he ever got power. And when he did get power, very few took him seriously – including the idiots who ran Whitehall. By the time Jews took Hitler seriously, it was way too late. Zev Jabotinski went to Europe begging them to leave for Israel – he warned a committee of the House of Lords that Europe would become a Jewish graveyard. The British were well forewarned of what their enemies would do to Jews, and had a pretty good idea of Hitler’s ideas for dominating Europe. They shut the door of their Mandate here to Jews – and they refused to prepare for war with Germany.

    2. The one group of Jews who did negotiate with the Nazis were the Labor Zionists – what they did was to see to it that non-religious Zionists, Jews who had no use for G-d, would get out of Germany and the lands that fell under the rule of the Nazis. And they did everything they could to see to it that religious Jews would not get out.

    3. When the British issued their infamous White Paper virtually slamming the door of THE LAND OF ISRAEL to Jews – AFTER THEY UNDERTOOK TO CREATE A JEWISH NATIONAL HOME HERE – the Hagana tried to take a stance of restraint and initiated a policy of sneaking Jews into their own homeland. The Etze”l, the group headed by Zev Jabotinsky, and after his death, MenaHem Begin, took a policy of violent resistance to the British, attacking them when and wherever possible. The Shtern Gang took the extreme policy of siding with the Nazis against the British – the precise policy of the Moslem Brotherhood – people like Abdel Nasser and Anwar Sadat. I think they were wrong in being willing to work with the Nazis, and I do not think they ever succeeded. The Nazis, when they negotiated with Jews, were only willing to negotiate with the Labor Zionists or people they knew could produce lots of money. the desperate ideologues of the Shtern Gang were not in this category.

Nevertheless, by assassinating British officials, the Shtern Gang they made themselves very effective. I realize that someone like your father would not have appreciated that – it is easy to understand why.

But in essence, the Nazis were very clear about their intent. Only a blind man could not see a massive murder of Jews coming in the near future in 1936, if the Nazis succeeded. The British, by contrast, stabbed my people in the back, out of fear of Arabs. Had they the least bit of courage, they would have armed and trained Jews to keep the Arabs in line – believe me it would have worked. Had they the least bit of courage, they would have allowed us to build a Jewish national home in Israel – which was the solemn commitment they undertook before the entire world.

Now, tell me, Stan. Who should I reserve my contempt for – the man who tells me up front that he has every intent of killing me and prepares to do so, or the man who pretends to be my friend, and then when I am most in need, stabs me in the back?

The Nazis showed what uncivilized savages they could turn Germans and other Europeans into. Bu they were willing to defy the world to do so and paid a terrible price for their courage, if it can be called that. The British showed how cowardice and duplicity does the same evil, and aids the savage barbarian in his murderous goals. The French and the Americans AND PARTICULARLY THE AMERICAN REFORM JEWS were not too far behind the British.

  • Ruvy in Jerusalem

I’ve time only for a brief answer – I must run off to the capital for Sabbath shopping.

At least you know your history, and can present details that the majority of posters wouldn’t have a clue about.

An enemy who tells me up front that he’ll kill me, I can respect. This I understand. This was the Nazi enemy. One knew where one stood with them, even if it meant fighting for your life. But the British?

    More later.

  • STM

Ruvy: Perhaps it’s the Nazis who should be the target of you anger and revulsion, rather than the British. It’s all sounding too much like the idealogy of Yair Stern and his misguided cronies, who thought their real enemies were the British, and tried to negotiate with the Nazis.

Think about it Ruvy. Denying visas to Palestine in the lead-up to WWII? I think they hoped there wouldn’t be a WWII. How was anyone to know what the fate of the Jews would be in Germany and German occupied Europe.

Civilised people don’t behave the way the Nazis did, and it must have been unthinkable in the lead up to war that this was to be the fate of your people. I’d suggest that if the British understood that prior to the sealing of the borders and the outbreak of war, they’d have tried their darndest to get every single Jew out of Europe. I reiterate: they were the only country that tried to get as many Jeiwish children out of so-called Greater Germany prior to the declaration of war. That thousands of of jewish children survived, and many live today, is testament to that fact.

Your skewed view of it all – especially in regard to the British Nazi sympathisers, a small number who were conistently berated in England – sounds hateful to me, more than anything.

  • STM

I think it’s interesting that you feel this way about the British, Ruvy, when the truth is for three years, they were the only country that continued to stand up to the Nazis – the perpetrators of the holocaust.

Part of the reason they did so was the “hateful” and racist ideology of Nazi Germany. They also rescued thousands of Jewish children from Nazi occupied Europe prior to the British declaration of war – the kinder transports.

I think you are being too hard on them. I know why they didn’t simply open up Palestine to your people en masse without considering what the ramifications might be. It was more to do with law and order than denying Jews their rightful homeland, which according to the Balfour declaration was the ultimate aim anyway.

I believe they were quite simply hoping to avoid another conflagration, and after what had recently taken place, I can’t say I blame them.

There are many on the British side who are equally critical of the treachery and duplicity of many of those in the Haganah, who told the British they sought the status quo and a peaceful solution, but in their other life went out and murdered British soldiers.

It works both ways Ruvy. My father, and I can tell you, no anti-semite by a long shot, had a lot to say about that particular aspect. If, in the wash-up, they had the shits after a while, you can probably understand it. I can.

  • Ruvy in Jerusalem

This is for that British (and Australian) tea hustling contingent.

The royal house you guys like so much for entertainment is a German royal house. They may have anglicized the name some over time, but it is still a German royal house. Any reasonably intelligent coin collector is familiar with the name, “Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.” Queen Victoria was a first cousin to Wilhelm II of Germany, whose army her military had to eventually fight. Blood is thicker than water, even thicker than petroleum.

Back in 1929, the Prince of Wales took a trip to visit the coal miners in “Merrye Engalond”. I have photos of the young man and the haunted look in his eyes as he saw what your parliamentary system could not (or would not) do for the starving buggers digging coal. The Prince of Wales looked across the sea to Europe and saw Mussolini and Hitler, especially after Hitler took control in Germany; he saw the changes that took place.

Seeing himself as a King, a man whose job it was to look after his people, and remembering what he had seen in the coal mines in 1929, and bearing in mind what the bumbling Conservative and Labour governments could not accomplish in his own country, the Prince of Wales became devoted to the idea of a royal revolution that would seize power back from Parliament, and allow him to copy Hitler and Mussolini in reforming the United Kingdom, with the aim of seeing to it that her workers would no longer starve and the coupon clipping exploiters of them would no longer live an easy life off the backs of their hard work.

He joined the large ranks of English admirers of Hitler.

He may have been chased off the throne for marrying an American divorecée, but Edward of Windsor’s exile to the Caribbean was purposeful – to keep him from ever pursuing his revolutionary plans and overthrowing his brother (or perhaps convincing him to follow a similar policy).

There have been photos of Diana’s kids in Nazi regalia. It is no great surprise that your Queen should sport a tiny swastika in her hat.

In addition, there have been reports of teachers in the United Kingdom avoiding teaching about the Nazi slaughter of my people – so as not to offend the Moslems. After all, a major figure in convincing Hitler to open death camps in Poland to slaughter Jews was Amin Husseini, the rabble rouser from Gaza who had proclaimed himself “grand mufti” in Jerusalem and was behind the massacre of Jews in Hebron in 1929… Pursuing the teaching of the Holocaust inevitably leads to the “Palestinian” Arab who sought the slaughter of the Jews – and who got it.

But the main indictment of the British, the reason they should rot in hell and their Union Jack should be torn to bits and burnt, is that the gates to the Land of Israel were barred by the British to Jews, when those Jews, the rightful inhabitants, needed refuge the most.

Have a tea and a good lie down before firing back your answers, gents. I haven’t called any of you holocaust deniers. I’ve done far worse. I’ve told the truth.

  • STM

Doc wrote: “Holocaust? What holocaust? Have some more tea.”

And a good lie down. Now go away Dan, and annoy the shit out of some other poor bastard.

  • Did I not ask if this could be validated? Wouldn’t that question suggest that I thought, maybe, there was something up?

So validate it. Those of us who don’t agree with your “forwarded” harangue aren’t going to do it for you.

I, for one, give that piece no credibility whatsoever.

Funny, DD. As I was reading that, the first reaction I had also was to check Snopes; thanks for saving me the trouble. If it’s not there yet, it will be soon, I’ll bet.

  • Dr Dreadful

Then why not do some research yourself before posting it verbatim?

  • The Haze

Did I not ask if this could be validated? Wouldn’t that question suggest that I thought, maybe, there was something up?

  • Dr Dreadful

Got this as a forward in our e-mail, did we?

Couldn’t find this little gem on snopes.com, but a quick Google search revealed that it’s been popping up on all kinds of right-wing blogs. I suspect that the “teacher” – who, along with their school, is conveniently anonymous – is really an enraged and rather dishonest conservative. This has all the hallmarks of an urban legendmaker with an ax to grind.

I’m sure others will have plenty to say about your comment, but I can pinpoint a few items of bullshit in the piece for you right now.

    1. Many undocumented immigrants do pay income taxes as well as filing a return. Many are on the payrolls of reputable companies. They pay taxes to appear legitimate, to give themselves a stake in the economy, or because they perceive it as a way to strengthen their case for achieving legal status.

    2. Illegal immigrants do not qualify for Section 8 housing assistance, welfare or Social Security benefits. Their dependents might, if they were born here and are therefore citizens. As adults, their parents are usually the payees, so it may appear that they are receiving the benefits themselves, but this is not the case.

    3. Hundreds and thousands of undocumented aliens do voluntarily leave and return every year, mainly migrant farm workers. Those that stay on do so because they fear repeated crossing of international borders will draw attention to them. A guest worker program would legitimize their movements and remove the fear of legal reprisals upon them and their employers.

You have a right to be upset about illegal immigration, but at least acquaint yourself with some basic facts first before swallowing hook, line and sinker this kind of inflammatory claptrap.

  • The Haze

Found this on the net.Can anyone validate this stuff? God forbid if I spew bile! What the f**k is wrong with you people! This should make everyone think: WAKE UP AMERICANS!!!!

From a California school teacher – “As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of:

I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels.

Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.

Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I’m not talking a glass of milk and roll — but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least
moderately overweight. About 75% or more D O have cell phones. The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the country less then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them “Putas” whores and throwing things that the teachers were in tears.

Free medical, free education, free food, day care etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements?

To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.

Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases etc., etc, etc. For me, I’ll pay more for tomatoes.

We need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a disaster because we won’t have the guts to enforce it. Does anyone in their right mind really think they will voluntarily leave and return?

There are many hardworking Hispanic/American citizens that contribute to our country and many that I consider my true friends. We should encourage and accept those Hispanics who have done it the right and legal way.

It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an American culture that has become so weak and worried about “politically correct” that we don’t have the will to do anything about it.

Isn’t that what the whole immigration issue is about? Business doesn’t want to pay a decent wage. Consumers don’t want expensive produce.
Government will tell you Americans don’t want the jobs.

But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase “cheap labor” is a myth, a farce, and a lie. there is no such thing as “cheap labor.”

Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an “earned income credit” of up to $ 3,200 free.

He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent. He qualifies for food stamps. He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care. His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
He requires bilingual teachers and books. He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.

If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI. Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at (our) taxpayer’s expense.

He doesn’t worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance. Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.

He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits. Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his.

The American taxpayers also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.

  • Dr Dreadful

    “Holocaust? What holocaust?

    Have some more tea.”

  • Dan

STM: “Dan, you accused Britons of being holocaust deniers.”

Yes, yes STM, of course I did. Certainly, all Britons are holocaust deniers. When the Queen vistited the states to commemorate the anniversery of the Jamestown settlement last week, meticulous observers noticed she donned a tiny, swastika hat pin.

And as Dr. Dreadfool somehow sluethfully uncovered, I contend that holocaust denial is now government mandated. The education administration has already petitioned the governmental appropriations committee for funds to be applied to the hiring of armed, uniformed, monitors to be installed in classrooms. These “Field Marshalls” are to ensure against any Zionist funny business.

Also, in a semi-related matter, Muslim youth in France have now achieved their goal of torching every car in the country. The French are on foot now. So, beyond the cultural enrichment bestowed on the French people, they now have the unexpected gift of enhanced circulatory system/cardio-vascular health.

  • STM

“Anyway, I guess we can agree that what I wrote had substance, and wasn’t what you called “shit”.
Although it seems sort of “diddumy” of you not to note your false charge.”

Dan, you accused Britons of being holocaust deniers. They’re not. Now be a good boy and stop beahving like a prize knob.

  • Dr Dreadful

Dan, a government-funded study which discovers that some teachers are unwilling to teach the Holocaust cannot be taken as a government endorsement of Holocaust denial. Let it go already.

  • Dan

STM #73, Yep, the story did indicate that steps were being taken to shore up historic integrity on the part of some teachers.

Don’t understand the fuss over the Daily Mail’s reliability. The study either happened or it didn’t. The BBC news had virtually the same take. You can even google the actual government funded study. As well as some liberal bloggers keen on exposing some supposed holocaust denial government mandate strawman.

Anyway, I guess we can agree that what I wrote had substance, and wasn’t what you called “shit”.
Although it seems sort of “diddumy” of you not to note your false charge.

  • Nancy

Ah – don’t cry for me, Argentina – or bloggers, either. It’ll be a real bionic, titanium, never-get-artheritis leg. I’ll be 200% when we’re finished! Then I’ll go whitewater rafting! Yeah … it WAS a doozie of an accident. I was lucky: I got out alive in one (sort of) piece! More than the poor car could say ;D Besides, Paul McCartney’s soon-to-be-ex has made fake legs somewhat fashionable, if have one you must.

Kath and Kim’s a hoot, although they were having a titter in a TV interview here recently, in regard to its popularity in the UK, suggesting that certain sections of the British viewing public didn’t think Kath and Kim themselves were in on the joke.

It is fun though, and there really are people like that here. My favourites are the two snobby, bitchy sheilas who run the upmarket homewares shop as a tax dodge. There are as many pretentious people here as there are in the UK and the US.

I have had some personal experience: my son went to a boarding school in Sydney that is bracketed in an exclusive grouping of seven private and one selective state schools that play sport against each other. He went to the two Catholic ones (after running away from one), and they weren’t so bad. But at the poshest of these schools one Saturday afternoon for the rugby, the parking lot looked like a prestige car sales outlet.

My battered up, unwashed, turning-grey/brown alpine white 1993 SEAT Toledo hatchback with five surfboards shoved in the back caused some toffee-nosed muttering – wedged between a brand new, very top of the range executive model BMW and a brand-new Bentley.

My son was playing for the opposition and I was stuck there on the hill watching the game between two picknicking families in RM Williams clobber who prattled on non-stop about their investment properties, the farm, the practice (legal, you’d assume), Tamara’s school skiing trip, 18-year-old Justin’s new Audi and their holidays in Tahiti/Paris/New York/London/Rome/Tuscany. The women were exactly like the two snooty sheilas in Kath and Kim.

My son’s team absolutely flogged ’em, too. Good stuff.

  • Dr Dreadful

Last time we were there it was (that was the excuse, anyway) to attend the wedding of one of our friends who moved Down Under and fell in love with an Aussie girl. Her Dad’s name was, indeed, Bruce.

Jason is a worldwide phenomenon. I know about a million of ’em. Whenever my wife mentions a Jason I have to stop her in order to clarify which one we’re talking about.

The comedy show we loved while we were in Oz was “Kath and Kim”. I don’t think it’s made it to these shores yet, but we just got Dish so we’ll be on the lookout.

  • STM

Well, considering every second bastard WAS named Bruce here once upon a time, there wasn’t much we could do but laugh about it.

All those who would’ve been called Bruce but for the new era of Aussie soap-opera “television” are now Jasons.

  • Dr Dreadful

Don’t remember seeing that skit, but it sounds Pythonesque. Bit obvious for their style, though. I don’t think The Two Ronnies would have been that risqué… possibly Spike Milligan or the Not the Nine O’Clock News crew?

Touching on Python, out of interest, how did the “Bruces” skit play Down Under?

  • STM

It was a comedy skit; not sure where I saw it.

  • STM

Doc, in the newsagent, I always used to buy a copy of Hustler, Penthouse Black Label or British Tit and Whip Fetishist, before furtively looking around to make sure no one was watching as I slipped my copy of The Sun inside.

  • Dr Dreadful

a study by your Department for Education and Skills

Yes, of course, I agree that all British teachers are infallible, so naturally it’s fine by me for them to teach or not teach whatever the fuck they want. I’m sure the legally-mandated National Curriculum will fall into line just fine. [/sarcasm off]

STM is right: the Daily Mail is the tabloid that pretends it isn’t a tabloid; it’s read by people who don’t like to think that they don’t like to think. I’d go so far as to say that its journalism is even more unreliable than that of The Sun, which is the Murdoch-owned bottom-feeder of the British press. The Sun at least breaks some solid stories once in a while… if you can filter them out from all the tits ‘n’ arse.

  • STM

Dan: The one good thing about Britain is that it’s a genuine democracy. If people start doing one thing – like dropping the holocaust from study courses for fear of offending muslims – and others (read the majority) don’t agree with it, you can bet it won’t go unnoticed or unchallenged, which is also what the Daily Mail story seems to indicate.

I’d also issue a note of caution: the Mail thrives on bullshit and making things seem bigger than they are (even more than the rest of the British tabloids). It’s the paper of choice for the kinds of people who love peeking out from behind the curtains to see what the neighbours are up to. Their Royal coverage is hilarious: they never quote anyone directly, it’s always “one friend said”, “someone who knows them both”, a “palace source”. Interestingly, the quotes always look so similar, you would think they’d been made-up and written by the same person. Funny about that.

Back to the Poms though: The good thing about Britain is that most of the time, commonsense seems to prevail, no matter how far out of left field some of these things seem at first glance.

And “diddums”? … it’s just a smart-arse way of suggesting an adult or an older teenager is behaving like a baby or a spoilt brat.

  • Dan

Actually, I’m simply dishing back. Although I don’t always choose to. Note that I’m ignoring your childish playground taunt. What is a diddum anyway?

No, the British aren’t holocaust deniers. Not yet anyway. But Muslim immigrants are. I reckon Brit teachers consider a little history revision a small price to pay for the wonderful “gift” of diversity 3rd worlders bring with them.

    Here’s a link

    Real enough for ya?

  • STM

Ah, little Dan dear … Diddums, poor possum … can dish it out but can’t take it.

Mate, get real. The British aren’t holocaust deniers. If you’re going to write stuff, make sure it ain’t shit.

  • Dan

“But Dan’s stone did not need to be thrown. He was just being a moron.”

Well, as a point of fact, a study by your Department for Education and Skills found that some schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils.

Not that I care. Revisionist history isn’t a new trend. Witness your absurd notion of what the US “owes its existence in large measure to”.

Probably the best example of ill-advised stone throwing on this thread Dr. D, is your “moron” comment #65.

    Glass house dweller.

  • STM

Nancy! Is that fair dinkum? Your leg’s totally buggered? Sorry to hear that. I was wondering where the bloody hell you were. Good luck with it all.

  • STM

People in grass houses shouldn’t stow thrones

  • Nancy, welcome back.

Yeah, I’ve been getting a lot of razzing on that one, and of course the spellcheck didn’t catch it, because I spelled aunts correctly.

Really sorry to hear about your mishap! Are you (or have you) really losing your leg? That must have been a hell of a wreck!

Jeez, I hope you’re going to be OK.

  • Nancy

Clavvie, thanx for the laugh. Your spellcheck slip on ‘aunts’ vs ‘ants’ gave me such a wonderful image. I needed that.

Sorry to have been away so long. I was in a really, reeeeeaally bad car accident & haven’t been up to talking/blogging much. But I did get a new car out of it, & may yet get a new right leg & become the bionic woman; we’ll see. Anyway, I’m glad to be back, y’all.

  • Dr Dreadful

But Dan’s stone did not need to be thrown. He was just being a moron.

  • Lumpy

If we all live in glass houses then who’s0 going to thro the stones that need to be thrown?

You really can’t just dismiss or reject current nations based on sins of the distant past. Do you think those nations would commit those same wrongs todayn

  • Dr Dreadful

I’m not denying that Britain, Australia and a host of other countries have also been guilty of some pretty lovely behavior in the past. Just pointing out the old adage about the inadvisability of propelling mineral missiles whilst residing in buildings with lots of windows.

  • STM

Yeah, sorry Doc, I think Dave’s right … I think we have to put our hands up down here on that one, and you blokes were running the joint at the time. Mind you, Dan’s overboard on the holocaust denial stuff. Britain is not a country that’s denied the holocaust.

  • DrD. What major world nation does most of your catalog of wrongs provided to Dan NOT apply to?

  • Dr Dreadful

Where all all the decent Brits anyhow?

We’re alive and well, thank you, Arch – just invisible to those like yourself whose impoverished view of the world does not extend beyond their own simplistic black-and-white, I’m-right-you’re-wrong view of it.

And Dan, I’m not sure someone from a country which owes its existence in large measure to systematic mass kidnapping, slavery, ethnic cleansing and genocide should be bandying about the term “holocaust denial” lightly.

  • STM

There’s a point to all this of course. If the Poms rather than the Spanish had colonised Mexico, and the Mexican flag did have a Union Jack in the corner, the US would now be flanked by two countries in which no one would be banging down the door to leave.

  • Dan

“Where all all the decent Brits anyhow?”

umm, cowering in their holocaust denial? That Muslim immigration thing is really working out well for them.

  • Arch Conservative

Anything you or Mr. Rose might suggest regarding our (American) problem with our pesky little friends to the south would indeed be taken as inflamatory Dr.

Where all all the decent Brits anyhow?

  • Dr Dreadful

Mexico is in North America. And I thought Americans were bad at geography!

Style point. I didn’t want to say “Mexico” too many times in one comment, but “North America” might have been viewed as too inflammatory coming from a Brit… especially by a certain arch-shaped conservative.

  • Ah, yes, Mexico – the one country we didn’t colonize. Time to amend that little oversight. And once we have our size ten army issue boots firmly planted in Central America, maybe we’ll finally be able to get some decent Mexican restaurants in London!

Mexico is in North America. And I thought Americans were bad at geography!

  • Dr Dreadful

The status of Hawaii as the only non-rugby playing nation in Polynesia needs to be addressed. They would indeed be a fearsome prospect: the islands being the cultural melting pot that they are, they could easily select fifteen 2½ ton Samoans.

Imagine facing a whole team of Jonah Lomus…

  • STM

And Rosey, imagine what a wonderful place it could have been had that been the case. Still, they were smart enough to leave the Union Jack in the corner of their flag. But geez, I wouldn’t fancy the idea of playing them at rugby. Surfing with Hawaiians is bad enough. They are big, menacing and look for all the world like Maori with suntans.

Friendly out of the water, however. Just like their polynesian Kiwi cousins, who like to leave the mud and blood on the footy field and go for a drink (that’s if you can get off it unassisted, of course).

  • Having had the great good fortune to go to Hawaii, I can only say that not holding onto it was one of the greatest mistakes of all time!

  • Dr Dreadful

Or, STM, how about a “Second Amendment” redesign of the American flag… with 50 bullet holes instead of stars in the top left corner?

  • Dr Dreadful

Anyway, back on topic: Arch (#35, re my #31), you have no sense of humor. Your typo (something about them taking down an American flag and replacing it with an American one – I know you meant Mexican) conjured up an amusing picture in my head and I couldn’t resist.

Enough with the overblown sacrilegous outrage already: it’s a flag over a suburban post office, not the tomb of St Peter.

  • Dr Dreadful

Officially (but only officially) the US was always a bit reluctant to colonize Hawaii. Cleveland was ever so pissed off when Sanford Dole (a megalomaniac if ever there was one) presented him with a fait accompli, but signed the annexation act because it was easier to go with the flow than risk losing votes.

Later, the islands couldn’t get statehood for the longest time because those good ol’ boys down South thought the place wasn’t white enough.

(Just got back from a brief trip there. Amazing what you can pick up from reading the Lonely Planet guide on the plane!)

  • STM

“Not that we ever did colonize Hawaii. The only reason their flag has the Union Jack in the corner is that King Kamehameha I thought it looked cool.”

Colonisation by design, as it were. Kamehameha used the Union Jack as his own personal flag for a time. Actually, they kind of did colonise the place. It was part of the sphere of influence, if you like, which must have pissed the yanks off no end and in part led to them eventually actually REALLY colonising the place, despite the fact they claim never to have been colonists and therefore also not empire builders (the Filipinos and a few others would disagree with that premise).

  • STM

Tee hee. Perhaps we should come up with a new English flag to stick in the corner … wickets and bails being scattered in five different directions, maybe …

  • Dr Dreadful

I wonder how the Aussie flag would look with a Union Jack in the corner? Oh, wait…

  • Dr Dreadful

Ah, yes, Mexico – the one country we didn’t colonize. Time to amend that little oversight. And once we have our size ten army issue boots firmly planted in Central America, maybe we’ll finally be able to get some decent Mexican restaurants in London! 🙂

Not that we ever did colonize Hawaii. The only reason their flag has the Union Jack in the corner is that King Kamehameha I thought it looked cool.

  • STM

Doc, I reckon the Mexican flag would look great with a Union Jack in the corner. What do you think?

  • Dr Dreadful

Maybe some minutemen should sneak into Mexico illegally, tear down the Mexican flag from a government building and put up an American flag.

Hmm, sounds a bit like what happened in Monterey in – when was it – 1845?

  • “I disagree with their tearing it down, but I’ll defend to the death their right to do so.”…

  • STM

Arch wriote: “It’s not just a flag. It’s a symbol. A symbol of our culture, lifestyle and way of life.”

I still think it’d look much better with a Union Jack in the corner, rather than those silly stars (look at the fantastic Hawaiian state flag, America’s best:) ). And don’t get me started on Canada’s maple-syrup banner that in one fell swoop disregarded its long heritage. At least the Stars and Stripes is correctly coloured red, white and blue. But still, I digress: Archie is right in part in his argument, even if the delivery is somewhat OTT.

It does represent something and it must really irk Americans to have people tearing it down when their primary motive in all this is to stay in the very country whose flag they are tearing down, and which gives them the right to do so without fear of being prosecuted beyond a misdeamounour charge and a fine.

  • Zedd

    Clavos #14

    Much agreed!!!

Its not the people who are seeking a better life for their children. Bravo for them. I would do the same thing.

It is actually the disingenuous governmentS and elite that play with their lives for their benefits.

I however don’t understand the DEMAND for rights by illegals. I understand Americans speaking on their behalf.

    Side note:

I have known many illegals who are not Hispanic who are actually in the corporate world who got their social security cards early on.

  • Arch Conservative

It’s not just a flag. It’s a symbol. A symbol of our culture, lifestyle and way of life.

These people claim to want to come to America because it is the land of opportunity and they want a better life, yet what is the first thing they do when they get here? They tear down the flag from a government building and raise the flag of their origin nation while chanting anti American slogans.

You’re obejection to my taking offense to that is patently bizarre, even for someone like you who has made a career out of opposing every word I offer zing.

The act is a blatant and offensive display of disregard for this entire nation and it’s citizens.

Harmless because no one was hurt? Well sure if you look at it that way cancer doesn’t kill you the first day, week, or even month that you get it zing but if allowed to go on unaddressed is cancer not very harmful indeed?

I am always amazed at the extent liberals will go to in excusing the atrocious behavior of those who would violate our laws by coming here illegally and then proceed to do nothing but disrespect the culture, law and citizenry at every chance they get.

Yes normal Americans do not obsess and ruminate upon it 24-7 but they are in fact upset and angered when these flagrant exhibits of disrespect are brought to their attention zing. Normal Americans do not equate human rights with letting your neighbor screw you over 24-7. Normal Americans do not buy into the leftist propaganda that the Minutemen are racists goons who kill Mexicans. Normal Americans do not go out of their way to make excuses for every obscene, offensive, disrespectful and illegal act committed by illegals. Normal Americans do not call all other Americans who support tightening the borders ‘racist.”

And you never answered my question zing? Do you think that if a bunch of Americans went to Mexico illegally, tore down the Mexican flag from a government building and put up and American flag that that would be tolerated as you suggest it must be here?

  • zingzing

it’s a flag. a piece of nylon probably.

    “harmless” means nobody was harmed.

were people offended? i’m sure. i’m sure those same people who were offended (who are all fat white men, apparantly… look at the pictures…) were hurling insults at the same time. and it was supposedly pretty funny when the police couldn’t get the flag down.

respecting the flag, in certain instances, is commendable. but getting upset over this is just silly. it really doesn’t mean anything.

“normal americans” probably have no idea it even happened. “normal americans” can laugh at things. “normal americans” believe in the rights of human beings. “normal americans” come from immigrants. “normal americans” wouldn’t patrol a border, looking for mexicans to shoot. “normal americans” don’t wear t-shirts with uncle sam saying “we DON’T want you, illegal aliens.” “normal americans” are going about their day.

  • Arch Conservative

Maybe some minutemen should sneak into Mexico illegally, tear down the Mexican flag from a government building and put up an American flag. I’m sure the people and government would laugh their asses off at the “harmless prank” that had just been pulled on them.

Normal Americans would be upset about what happened in Maywood zing. They wouldn’t consider it a “harmless prank.”

What the hell is wrong with you zing?

  • zingzing

heh. raising a mexican flag at the post office. funny stuff. not such a big deal. i’m sure it was later corrected, and i’m sure much cerveza was consumed after.

in the grand scheme of things, it’s a harmless prank. but it’s illegal, eh? bah… so many laws.

“todays American leftists are nothing but useless, worthless scumbags who deserve nothing but utter contempt from normal Americans.”

heh. and so many of them ARE normal americans.

  • Arch Conservative

I have really been trying to refrain from personal attacks but Dreadful’s comments in post 31 in which he makes light of illegals removing the American flag from a United States government building and raising a Mexican flag in it’s place, if they are to be taken as sincere are the quintessential example of why todays American leftists are nothing but useless, worthless scumbags who deserve nothing but utter contempt from normal Americans.

  • Florida, Ruvy. Miami; and we’re in the middle of one of our periodic droughts right now; the last one was in 2002.

  • Ruvy in Jerusalem

Now that the single file of aunts brought you a piece of cake each to eat, pay attention to the ants.

They are bringing you a message, and it is not a pleasant one. Where are you again? Texas, Florida?

  • STM

“Our drought continues to deepen, sometimes in interesting ways: yesterday I noticed a single file of aunts”.

Lol. I know you corrected it, but still.

Hope they all brought a cake each.

  • Dr Dreadful

a bunch of cockroaches took down the American flag from the post office and raised the American flag.

Boy, wish I’d been there to see that. Those were some talented roaches… were they the ones from the movie Joe’s Apartment?

I expect the old American flag was getting a little ragged so they helpfully took it down and hoisted a new one.

  • Arch Conservative

You say that they’re a threat to our culture and way of life, etc. My question is: how?

Umm let’s see. First of all many of them refuse to speak english. I am so fucking sick of “pressing one for english,” and buying american products with spanish writing on them. English is the unofficial official language of this nation and if you want to come here you had better learn to read write and speak it or go back to whereever it is that you fucking czme here from.

Second is the fact that they come here and claim anyone who opposes their illegal actions is a racist when many of them belong to very racist organizations such as La Raza themselves.

Third many of them seem to feel it is ok to desecrate the american flag and raise the flag of their own origin nation. There wa sone particular incident in Maywood California where a bunch of cockroaches took down the American flag from the post office and raised the American flag.

They are also a huge drain on our healthcare system… receieving milliosn of dollars in care that never gets reimbursed until it is passed onto us real American citizens…

I do hate them concerned. They are fucking cockroaches and the only thing you can really do with cockroaches once they have infested your home is exterminate them.

  • A Concerned Citizen

    Arch Conservative

I’m not on either side of this debate — I know literally no information on it. Why are you so hostile to these illegal aliens? You seem to border on hatred, so I’m curious as to what exactly they’ve done that’s so terrible (besides being an illegal).

You say that they’re a threat to our culture and way of life, etc. My question is: how?

  • Ruvy in Jerusalem

“‘So you disagree with their view of the future for your country. So what?’

It’s not so what to me Ruvy. I have to live in this country and raise children here.”

Good. Then you demonstrate with the thousands (or millions) who do agree with your point of view. You write letters to legislators; you petition the authorities. If after a long train of abuses, nothing works, you throw off those authorities and institute better institutions for the protection of your rights, inalienable rights which you derive from your Creator.

    Sound familiar, Bing?

“I know you want to talk about the police Ruvy…

No, Bing, I do not want to talk about the police. I’m talking about your inalienable rights. The only way you get protection for those rights is by recognizing the right of other CITIZENS in the country you were born and raised in to disagree with you. If you fail to do so, you do not understand the most basic principles of a democracy, and you do not deserve those rights because you have the mindset not of a democrat but of a Stalinist.

  • What exactly is the right version of this country, Haze? You’re spitting and sputtering bile profusely, but you’re not saying anything. If your version of “our” country is what you’re advocating, it’s going to be a very lonely place for you. Isn’t your version another play on “I want Mine.”?

  • According to archaeologists, their ancestors, who were the first people to populate the Americas, arrived from Asia some 12,500 years ago.

Actually, Clavos, many archaeologists believe that the first settlers to come to America about 15,000 years ago – the ‘paleoamericans’ – were of European/Caucasian racial type. They were genocidally exterminated by asiatic migrants – mesoamericans – who came a few thousand years later.

Trying to hold people accountable for conquests and wars and even genocides carried out by their ancestors hundreds or thousands of years before is ridiculous.

  • The Haze

Why do they call them “Illegal” immigrants? HELLO!!!Go Home!!! Try coming to this country the right way! and when you come back “legally”,try assimilating rather than turning “OUR” country into your version of “OUR” country. We already have way too many “VERSIONS” of America. What ever happened to good ol’ U.S.A.?? We’re losing something here people and I think it is our souls all for the sake of “I want mine”.

  • Dr Dreadful

Arch, important distinction. “Aiding and abetting” refers to helping someone commit, or evade justice for, an illegal act. The demonstrators, albeit some of them may have been in the country illegally, were not committing a crime by demonstrating.

  • There are no “real” Americans, except for the Native Americans…

They’ve been here longer than the rest of us, but even they are immigrants.

According to archaeologists, their ancestors, who were the first people to populate the Americas, arrived from Asia some 12,500 years ago.

  • If we follow your ~ahem~ argument toits logical conclusion, Arch, then all of us of European descent should be packing their bags. There are no “real” Americans, except for the Native Americans, And we all know how the European settlers defended their prospects.

  • Arch Conservative

“Is that so? Well, try this on for size: I’m not an immigrant, I was born in and have lived in the country all of my life, and I’m complaining about the outrageous and disgusting police brutallity in LA.”

Yes but do you also ever complain about the illegals who come here, disrespect the citizenry and culture, and recieve so much unreimbursed healthcare that the next time one of your loved ones goes for a medical procedure it will cost almost double what it should Paul?

These people whom you condemn for their political views were doing nothing illegal! ”

Umm Ruvy… I think the term is “aiding and abetting”. It is illegal in the United States to assist someone who has committed a criminal act. So yes in fact they were doing something illegal.

“So you disagree with their view of the future for your country. So what?”

It’s not so what to me Ruvy. I have to live in this country and raise children here. I don’t want it turned into some leftist, socialist, open borders wasteland where the concept of American soveriengty respect for traditional american culture is a joke.

I know you want to talk about the police Ruv y but I don’t. I want to talk about how millions of illegals shouldn’t be here and deserve no respect, compassion or sympathy from real American citizens because htey have shown us absolutely none.

  • Ruvy in Jerusalem

Like I told you, this demo was not a violent one, as violent demos can go. For example, nobody’s testicles were crushed, like happened when Israel’s version of the Tactical Patrol Force, Yasa”m, attacked peaceful demonstrators at ‘Amona, nobody’s collarbones were broken, as happened at ‘Amona, nobody’s head was beaten bloody, as happened at thousands of demos against Vietnam, against withdrawing from Yamit in the 1980’s against withdrawing from Gush Qatif a couple of years ago, and at ‘Amona last year. Nobody was killed, as occurred at Kent State in Ohio in 1970.

You appear not to comprehend at all what I’m writing about. The behavior of the police was not unwarrantedly violent in spite of the fact that they shot rubber bullets. If the mayor of LA needs to make excuses to anybody, it is not for the behavior of the cops at the demonstration, but their presence with intent to break it up.

These people whom you condemn for their political views were doing nothing illegal!

I’m not writing about their views on political life in your country. They did not advocate hatred, they did not advocate mass murder, they did not advocate destroying a nation (as do Arabs when they demonstrate in your country and elsewhere). So you disagree with their view of the future for your country. So what?

I’m writing about something a lot more fundamental that you should be very concerned about. YOUR OWN right to demonstrate your opinions publicly.

  • Um…that should be a “single file of ants

  • STM writes:

… at LAX, probably awaiting clearance by Customs for delivery to the Sunshine State.

Which is more than ever the Sunshine State these days, Stan.

Our drought continues to deepen, sometimes in interesting ways: yesterday I noticed a single file of aunts headed to and from the corner of the kitchen where the cats’ food and water is located. This surprised me, because we feed them dry food, which has never attracted ants before. Upon closer inspection, I realized the ants were actually coming in for the water! There were several drowned ants in the water bowl, and no ants at all on the food!

I replaced the water then, and this morning, the water bowl was full of ants again. Obviously, they’re not finding enough water outside, so are coming inside for it.

When the gators start coming into the pool, I’m loading the Winchester…

  • The same is true here in South Florida, Dave, where many (if not most) of the Latinos in this area are here precisely because they fled socialist dictatorships in countries such as Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Ecuador.

  • STM

Clav: according to the Australia Post tracker, your bloody ‘at is now Stateside … at LAX, probably awaiting clearance by Customs for delivery to the Sunshine State.

  • I think you’re right about the timing, Dave, but I think the intent is more to politicize and radicalize US Latinos, who for the most part, are far less socialistic than their cousins back home in LatAm.

Agreed, and it’s a message which seems to have some appeal in California. Here in Texas it would go nowehre fast. Our immigrants come here to work hard, make money and advance themselves. Socialism is of zero interest to most of them.

  • Haze,

If you don’t like illegal aliens being here, there’s a very easy solution to the problem:

Make it a felony to hire them, with a mandatory penalty of twenty years to life.

    Jobs dry up; no illegals.

  • The Haze

#12 – Try this on for size: 75% of the outstanding warrants in L.A. are for illegals…….maybe they can stay at “your house” so the “criminals with badges” won’t get them. Spare us the tripe! Oh yeah…..BTW……”I know you are,but what am I?

  • The Haze

Nalle hit the nail on the head. Our way of life is being attacked on a lot of fronts and the American people need to wake up. Appeasing this behavior will be the end of us and I agree with Arch on the fact that Americans who think these poor “illegals” are getting a raw deal should volunteer to take them back to their country. Oh yeah…..AND STAY THERE WITH THEM!!!

  • daryl d

In no way do I justify what the police did. However, I’m just a little peeved that people who commit crimes get to judge how our supposed “crime preventers” act. I agree that some police officers are usually uneducated and are in the police force for all the wrong reasons.

You’re right….there were people there who were American citizens there to aid and sympathize with illegal aliens. That’s actually much worse than being an illegal you prick!

Ruvy……..cry me a river. These people come here illegally and then proceed ot totally disrespect AMerican law, culture and citiznes every chance they get. Wether they live or die I do not care. I have absolutely no sympathy, compassion or regard at all for them.

[known to the rest of you as “arch conservative”]

I watched both Youtube clips of this event. I have a long memory and remember running down Fifth Avenue in New York City, and hiding in the Milliner’s Synagogue as the pigs police came charging down the street with tear gas and clubs. These descendants of New York’s Tactical Patrol Force were no where near as violent as the TPF were towards us because we were protesting the war in Vietnam.

This was not a violent demo at all from what I could see… This, is in spite of the fact that the police fired rubber bullets, which can kill.

So all those comments about fascism and the like in the video were just your typical stupid American spouting stuff that he has no clue about.

Having said all this, you make the deadly mistake of judging what happens to these demonstrators by what you think of them. If a squad of TPF type thugs kick you down and beat the living shit out of you for demonstrating for the right to bear arms, or for opposing abortions, your opinions would be very different – once you were coherent enough to type them, that is.

This is just a brief paragraph from an e-mail from a group whose aims I oppose in Israel.

On February 7, 2007, a three judge panel of the Israeli Supreme Court (Justices Eliezer Rivlin, Ayala Procaccia and David Cheshin) heard the second appeal of Salim and Arabiya Shawamreh’s appeal to have the 15-year demolition order on their home rescinded – a permanent order under which the family has had its home demolished four times.

Two of the judges, Cheshin and Procaccia, are known for their bitter hostility to Jews like me, who live in Samaria. If either Judge Cheshin or Procaccia could sign an order demolishing my home in Ma’aleh Levona (along with everyone else’s in the village), they would be very happy to. They would be happy to abuse my civil rights under English common law as they are to abuse the rights of Salim and Arabiye Shawamreh.

My point is that Salim Shawamreh and I have the same enemies in the establishment élite of my country, even though the two of us are on opposite sides of the fence in many ways.

You have to understand that if the police in your country are given to understand that citizens like you have no rights, you too can have your head kicked in, or be in the crosshairs of a police rifle firing rubber bullets – or live ones.

  • I think you’re right about the timing, Dave, but I think the intent is more to politicize and radicalize US Latinos, who for the most part, are far less socialistic than their cousins back home in LatAm.

  • It’s not about race. The fact that this protest was scheduled for May 1st is what’s really significant. This wasn’t a protest about immigration, it was about using the immigration issue to advance the agenda of socialist organizations which want to export latin american style socialism to the US.

  • fxcastil

You can tell the racists right away by their comments. First of all, not everybody at the rally was an illegal alien I was there with many friends and we are all U.S. born citizens. And some of us have served in the military. The police were firing rubber bullets in the crowd of women and children. The few who started the trouble were not even arrested. It was a case of many tugs in uniform beating on unarmed individuals including women, these cops show little education and training and were just conducting themselves like any thug on the street. Shame, shame on you cops who indiscriminately beat and shot at innocent women and kids.
