Action titles, quality RPG/strategy epics and endless variety spice up the holidays this season.

PlayStation Portable 2010 Gift Guide

PSP games cover a wide range this holiday season and include many affordable titles while the $199.99 PSP Go offers players more online options and a bigger screen. NOTE: All release dates subject to change.

The amazing racing game Split/Second hits the hand held circuit on November 16 with special triggered events, revealed short cuts, and special environmental elements. Monster Jam: Path of Destruction (Nov. 9) has expansive off road racing fun at affordable $19.99.

ModNation Racers offers kart racing heaven with customization options, special unlockables, multiplayer races and creation content to reveal and share.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep presents PSP gamers with a prequel storyline, kinetic fighting scenarios and multiplayer options.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable offers an in-depth relationship based experience featuring quality narratives from one male and a new female character.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta releases on November 2 with more action plus strong visuals and is available as part of a PSP entertainment pack. Retro fans can try Duke Nukem Trilogy: Critical Mass on October 26.

Snake continues his military adventures on the PSP in the high content game Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, which is also available as part of a PSP entertainment pack.

Games adapted from popular films include Toy Story 3, Megamind: The Blue Defender (Nov. 2), and TRON: Evolution (Dec. 7), which features exclusive unlockable content. LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 has a strong story and over 100 playable characters for Hogwarts fans.

Other TV/media adaptations include and Man Vs. Wild (Nov. 16), Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction, and The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest which features an arena mode where players can test their combat skills.

Ace Combat Joint Assault has a cooperative play mode enhanced by smooth visuals and booming sound. Fighting fans can also enjoy Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Predator (Nov. 9) that features realistic military action and booming sound in a third person shooter perspective.

Sports fans can still nab the PSP 3000 Limited Edition Madden NFL 11 Bundle or the affordable NBA 2K11 featuring Michael Jordan. Soccer fans have several choices with FIFA 11, Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 (Nov. 2), and Football Manager Handheld 2011 (Nov. 9).

Ys. Seven provides action adventure, boss fights and item creation in a role-playing setting. Ys fans get even more with PSP exclusive Ys: The Oath in Felghana featuring fully-voiced cut scenes. Both titles are also available in limited editions including music soundtrack CDs.

Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman (Oct. 26) has as much going on as the title does…home base creation, puzzles, surprising strategy, and customizable characters. Valkyria Chronicles II features visually appealing role-playing strategy with new multiplayer modes and a 40-hour campaign.

Other quality action/RPG releases include Phantasy Star Portable 2, Blazing Souls: Accelerate, and Knight in the Nightmare (Nov. 9) which blends role playing, real-time strategy, and shooter elements.

InviZimals incorporates the included PSP camera as players collect, hunt, trade, archive, enhance, and battle with various mini monsters. Also available as part of a PSP entertainment pack. EyePet (Nov. 2) also has the PSP camera so players can have unique interactions with their virtual companion.

UFC Undisputed 2010, Gladiator Begins, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Tag Force 5 (Oct. 26), and Bakugan Battle Brawlers: Defenders of the Core (Nov. 2) offer fighting fun.

Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team has two vs. two fights, 70 playable customizable characters, and a new Dragon Walker Mode scoping the entire character story arc.

Wrestling fans can try WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 on October 26 or Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes of the Ring where players can choose from 30 real life luchadores or create their own while gaining crowd support to win matches.

Music fans can move with the Michael Jackson: The Experience on November 23 or the house music game DJ Max Portable 3.

Players can hunt on the go in Cabela’s North American Adventures 2011 and enjoy captured replay footage. Rapala Pro Bass Fishing 2010 features more than 25 types of fish to catch. Both titles sell for an affordable $19.99.

PSP players can find plenty of downloadable games as well like Gravity Crash Portable, which has futuristic visuals and a level creator among the physics based gameplay.

Save those holiday gift cards for Battle vs. Chess on January 3 and more role-playing adventures with Ys I & II Chronicles on January 18.
