A great week on the PSN with Lumines Supernova, Suikoden, and the MGS themed LittleBigPlanet content.

PlayStation Network Update: 12/23/2008

Woohoo! Christmas came early, except that you have to pay for the good stuff! The most exciting addition on this update (for me at least) is the Metal Gear Solid 4 sackboys and level pack. The Level Pack in particular is a must have as it adds a paint gun, plasma blasts, MGS music and what I have been asking for since the start…new levels! This will be downloaded and played post haste!

There is much, much more to enjoy though. We have a huge game in the form of Lumines Supernova and its free Holiday Pack. Lumines has been everywhere, it is about time it returns to a Sony Platform. It features many new skins (including a LittleBigPlanet one) and new play modes. Also a must have!

Many add-ons to peruse this week with very few free ones (from Hot Shots Golf and High Velocity Bowling) as well as numerous pay updates. Most of these are greatly overshadowed by the LittleBigPlanet DLC, but the Buzz! Quiz TV Pack looks promising.

There is a new demo that has appeared out of the blue. The Lord of the Rings: Conquest demo is a Star Wars Battlefront style take on the Lord of the Rings universe. I have been looking forward to this game so I am excited to give the demo a spin. One of the best RPGs on the original PlayStation, Suikoden, is also on offer as a PS1 classic.

Looking like the start of a bad trend there are numerous throwaway premium themes, but there are some promising Disgaea and The Dark Night themes. No chance I will pay for them, but it does make me worried that more themes will go the 'premium' route. There is another issue of Pulse this week as well, this video segment looks at the games, movies, and content being added to the PSN.

A great week and lots for PlayStation fans to be excited about. Below is a list of all the items added to this weeks PSN update. For more details, please visit the official PlayStation Blog.

'Risen 3: Titan Lords' is a flawed, but deep pirate-themed, action roleplaying game. While the new Enhanced Edition's release lacked much fanfare, it is a significant upgrade. Unfortunately, the game still lacks the polish required for wider appeal.
