Brutal Legends, Dragons and their Ages, new games, deals and more make this a great update.

PlayStation Network Update: 11/05/2009

Another week, another great PSN update. There are deals, demos, games and add-ons for all to enjoy!

The big coup this week, even though the multiplayer isn't great, is the free DLC for Brutal Legend featuring new maps and a new Axe. This DLC is a big deal as it is free exclusively on the PSN, the other guys have to pay for it, if anyone wants it that is. Other deals for bargain hunters are a value priced Mercury bundle and price drops on TV Show King and the X-Men Origins: Wolverine Weapon X Arena Pack. Although even with the price drop, the Weapon X Arena Pack is still five dollars too much in my humble opinion.

Plenty of add-ons available this week, the biggest of which are the day one, and overpriced, DLC for Dragon Age Origins. We discussed the idea of day one DLC on our recent Multiplayer Chat podcast and all agreed that it is a horrible and greedy trend. Having said all that I have a severe weakness for Bioware and RPG's in general and I imagine Warden's Keep will be mine in short order, sigh.

There are freebies this week in the form of LittleBigPlanet costumes, Topatoi: The Great Tree Story Arcade Style DLC and a Way of the Samurai 3 weapon pack. These are joined by character and mission packs for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 which are definitely not free.

Two new games make an appearance this week, the real time strategy title Military Madness: Nectaris and number themed puzzler Numblast. There is a demo for Military Madness which will let you try before you buy. A demo for the acclaimed game Trine is available to try if you are on the fence about the game.  A new PSOne classic is available and it is a classic platformer – Gex.  This is a great game and a nice addition to the roster.

Plenty of freshly digitized PSP games are on hand, of note are Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron, Dissidia Final Fantasy, and Ghostbusters The Video Game. It is nice to see all of them appearing as promised and that the pricing is somewhat close to retail.  A PSP demo for the great MotorStorm Arctic Edge is available, this is a solid portable version of the series and well worth checking out.

Lots of multimedia content with some great videos, nice Rock Band updates (Nirvana!) and some Tekken 6 themes/wallpapers to download and enjoy.

A great week with plenty to check and enjoy in this update, note I did not mention Qore. For more details, please visit the official PlayStation Blog.

PlayStation 4 Review: ‘Risen 3: Titan Lords Enhanced Edition’ from Piranha Bytes

'Risen 3: Titan Lords' is a flawed, but deep pirate-themed, action roleplaying game. While the new Enhanced Edition's release lacked much fanfare, it is a significant upgrade. Unfortunately, the game still lacks the polish required for wider appeal.
