Peter Robert Jackson was born 31 October 1961 in Pukerua Bay, north of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. He is a three-time Academy Award-winning New Zealand filmmaker, producer and screenwriter, and is best known for The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) trilogy adapted from the novel by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Jackson is also known for giving Academy Award Winner Kate Winslet her first movie role in Heavenly Creatures.

There is a devoted blog following for all things LOTR and Peter Jackson in particular, however the definitive fan blog is The One Ring.

Jackson is co-owner of Wingnut Films with partner Fran Fran Walsh who are also involved in the productions of The Lovely Bones, District-9 and the Tintin Trilogy. Jackson also co-owns Weta Digital, arguably the foremost motion capture studio in the world also located in Wellington New Zealand.
