As we continue our journey through the midwest spas, we find ourselves in Kohler, Wisconsin. We explored the Kohler Water Spa located next to the American Club Resort Hotel. The hotel reminded us of an old-world, slightly dated country hotel, which surprised us a little bit considering its high rating in travel websites. We didn’t see the rooms because we stayed at the adjacent Inn on Woodlake, which provided a complimentary shuttle to the spa. It met our needs for being spacious, affordable, and had easy access to dining and shopping. However, it wasn’t luxurious, just basic.

We had very high expectations for the Kohler experience because it is the only spa in Wisconsin in 2011 to achieve four-star status. We were not disappointed. We needed an all-day immersion into the world of WATER! That’s what it feels like. Relax and replenish your mind and body through nourishing spa services and facilities that are themed around water.

At first, we were taken to the locker rooms and given robes to change into, which were luxurious. You need to bring your bathing suit because the whirlpool/relaxation pool is co-ed (yes we were prepared this time—no repeat Sundara shopping spree). The nice thing about Kohler, however, was that they had a separate women’s relaxation area with comfortable lounge chairs where we could sit, talk, or read. We, of course, talked there!

In the co-ed area, however, we were greeted by a loud waterfall where it was difficult to chat. Perfect book time in that space! The co-ed lounge was in a glass-enclosed rooftop deck with whirlpool, fireplace, and lounge. The perfect marine environment and the calming sounds of flowing water promote health and relaxation. Returning to the basic water rituals is at the heart and philosophy of Kohlers.

We enjoyed massage therapy that was associated with aromatherpies that blend essential oils to help decrease any stress and anxiety that is stored in our muscles. We also splurged on an anti-aging facial that eliminated layers of dead skin to help us achieve a healthy radiant glow. Youth is really hard to maintain.

But seriously, no spa experience is complete without the friendship and comradeship we share. We hope to relay that message to all women: that female relationships are essential to a busy working woman’s life. There is increased energy and healing through recognizing the beauty of our surroundings and, more, to appreciate all the beauty in our daily lives. Our prescription to you is to remember that water is where life originates, so find where you originate and embrace it!
