Whether you watch 'SYTYCD' regularly, occasionally, or even not at all, the finalists put on a stellar live show! The tour has several U.S. stops and 17 Canadian stops coming up.

Now On Tour: ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Season 12 Finalists

One of the hottest shows currently hitting auditoriums and halls around the U.S. (soon to arrive in Canada, see itinerary below) is the So You Think You Can Dance: Season 12 Tour. The top ten finalists from the Emmy®-nominated competitive series have been thrilling live audiences in dozens of cities since the tour began in mid-October. Christmas week finds the dancers, who perform popular routines that first appeared throughout Season 12 as well as pieces creating especially for the live tour, taking a much needed breather. But the top ten won’t have long to catch their breath, as Boxing Day (December 26) will find them in Seattle at the Paramount Theatre (tickets via STG Presents). Visit the official SYTYCD website for complete ticketing information.

Season 12’s finalists perform in a new Stage vs. Street format, with five dancers in each “team.” Team Stage features: Season 12 winner Gaby Diaz, with Edson Juarez, Jim Nowakowski, Hailee Payne and Derek Piquette. Team Street’s Megan “Megz” Alfonso, Eddie “Neptune” Eskridge, Virgil Gadson, Jessica “JJ” Rabone and Season 12 runner-up Jana “Jaja” Vankova.

Having attended numerous SYTYCD live tour shows since the series’ inception a decade ago (see my review of last year’s tour here), I can personally attest to how much fun these shows really are. The SYTYCD live tour stirs emotions that pretty much cover the gamut, from humor to sadness, with the live audiences typically responding in kind. There’s something special about seeing these routines live—blessed by the freshness of visceral immediacy—that results in a richer experience than what the TV shows can deliver.

Not to knock the addictive series by any means, during which these dancers (along with those who didn’t reach the fiimage007nalist level) were judged weekly by Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul, Jason Derulo. Not for nothing did the show receive eight 2015 Primetime Emmy® Award nominations, including Outstanding Reality-Competition Program and Outstanding Host In A Reality or Reality-Competition Program (Cat Deeley). But the pressure-cooker atmosphere of the competitive weeks, during which the dancers do everything they can to stay in the game, give way to the more celebratory feeling of a well-earned victory lap.

Including the December 26 Seattle stop, there are four more dates left on the U.S. leg of So You Think You Can Dance: Season 12 Tour. On January 7, 2016, the SYTYCD finalists kick off a 17-date Canadian leg in Victoria, B.C. Visit the official SYTYCD site for more information.

About The Other Chad

An old co-worker of mine thought my name was Chad. Since we had two Chads working there at the time, I was "The Other Chad."
