Nintendo has announced that the next version of Zelda, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, will not be released until Fall 2006. The news caused shock and disappointment in the hearts of die-hard Nintendo fans. Zelda was the last hope for anything good to play on the Nintendo GameCube. The GameCube sales have been lack luster at best and GameCube owners where looking forward to a new adventure with Link in his new all grown up form.
This announcement was made on the Spike TV show, GameHead, by Nintendo of America’s head of marketing Reggie Fils-Aime. He also went on to reveal that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will not be a Revolution, Nintendo’s next-gen console, launch title nore will it carry over any special functionality to new system. While there is much hype over Nintendo’s new console, everyone will look towards E3 2006 to get hands on with the console and a look at the future of Nintendo.
A look a message boards on popular gaming sites showed the disappointment that Nintendo fans are feeling, as they must wait even longer for new games and a new system. “I don’t want a rushed game, but they had enough time,” said one fan. “Gimme a break! I was so disappointed when they pushed it to this spring, now they push it to fall…How perfect does it have to be, Nintendo,” said another fan.
For now Nintendo fans will just have to enjoy games on their Nintendo DS and play older titles for the GameCube. But Nintendo has plans to roll out new games and the next-gen console around Thanksgiving 2006. So the wait will be over by years end.
