NBC’s The Today Show has managed to land another big, exclusive interview — this week Matt Lauer will sit down the captain of the Maersk Alabama, Richard Phillips. The interview, having already taped, is scheduled to air this Tuesday, April 28.
The interview marks the first time that Captain Phillips has sat down with the press since his having been captured by — and rescued from — Somali pirates. In it, Phillips makes it quite clear that he believed that he wouldn’t survive the incident, that his thoughts were about “just settling everything. Getting ready to die and just settling everything.”
In the high-pressure, big-money, world of morning shows, this interview promises to help Today remain on top in the ratings game, a place they’ve managed to stay for a long time. In fact, as of the week of April 13, The Today Show had remained in first place among all morning shows for 697 consecutive weeks.
More on the interview can be found on The Today Show’s website.
