powell.jpgI need to say that I have a deeper respect for Colin Powell than I did before after viewing this clip over on Lisa Rein’s Radar. I need to say thank you to Les over at Stupid Evil Bastard for giving the heads up to this.

Colin has been getting slammed by people as that he was a sell out to buy into the Bush Administration. Where as I certainly don’t agree with him on joining that regime, I do have to say after finding out that he was AGANST the decision to not follow the Geneva conventions as has all along been telling the president to take more moderate and thought out choices. I am starting to get a different view. Perhaps I am hoping too much here, but it would be nice to think that maybe Colin joined on because in some way he knew that a very reckless junta was about to take over the White House and that his personal experience as a soldier as well as dealing with international people would add a bit of temperance. Too bad he has been basically ignored and shoved aside in the Bush Administration.

After viewing this clip, I have to say that Colin is a man that has integrity, honor, and honesty and I wouldn’t mind working for him as I respect him. The clip shows an interview on Meet the Press where Colin’s press aid to cut the interview short by moving the camera off Powell. You can hear Colin getting upset at one point saying “Emily, get out the way.

Bush could have learned a thing or two from Colin- namely, Integrity.

Now if only Colin would get some sense and LEAVE.

Word to John Kerry: If you were able to somehow get Colin…

If Powell had any integrity, he would have resigned and become a whistle-blower — telling the truth about the Bushies to the American Public.

He was tapped by the Bushies as one of the most trusted men in American politics — they used him for image only — and marginalized him elsewhere. (Remember he was trotted out for the UN to testify as to the REAL presense of WMDs — and because of that inherent trust, convinced a whole lot of Americans that the WMDs were there.

    Feh.

In my opinion, he’s an opportunistic whore with NO INTEGRITY.

Colin has stated that he was mislead by the intelligence as well. Sure, I think he should be a whistleblower but at the same time, I do know there are times when worming from within has its benefits. Sometimes just beating people about the head doesn’t help and you need to work from within. I never considered that option about Powell until this past weekend.

You guys with your conspiracy theories.

  • http://www.tekwh0re.net Ms. Tek

Bux, care to back up why you are saying this? I don’t see any “conspiracy” here. I don’t see any plan to take over the goverment or anything like that. It isn’t a conspiracy if you are trying to be a sane voice when you know that everyone else has lost their mind. There are times when you don’t jump ship, esp if you see the runaway ship is about to crash into a lot of innocent people. Times like that, perhaps its more responsible to take the helm and try to stear that ship away to hurt the least amount of people as possible.

Not that you would even understand those concepts.

I am constantly amazed by articles like this.

“Where as I certainly don’t agree with him on joining that regime,”

Are you aware that our president was elected to office via our election system. We refer to our democratically elected leaders and their reports as “Administrations” and save the word “Regime” for evil leaders that aim to hurt our country (i.e. NK, Old Iraq, etc). Do you seriously believe that our president falls to the level or countries like this? Get real.

“I do have to say after finding out that he was AGANST the decision to not follow the Geneva conventions as has all along been telling the president to take more moderate and thought out choices.”

I don’t know if you read the news, but Bush has also said he was against the abusive treatment of Iraqi prisoners.

“that a very reckless junta was about to take over the white house and that his personal experience as a solider as well as dealing with international people would add a bit of temperance”

Colin Powell this sunday on Meet The Press:

Russert: Bob Woodruff reports that on August 5, 2002, you met with the president and warned him about Iraq; that, in your words, “You break it, you bought it.” In light of the fact that we have miscalculated being greeted as liberators, miscalculated the number of troops needed, miscalculated the extent of weapons of mass destruction, do you wish the president had followed your advice?

Powell: My advice to the president was that we had to be sure that we understood the difficulties of managing this country once we took it over, if that’s what it came to. The advice I gave to the president was that we should take it to the international community, to the United Nations, to see if there was a diplomatic solution before we resorted to the use of force. And if we had to resort to the use of force, we had made the efforts with the United Nations so that we could get coalition partners to join us. And the president followed that advice.

My advice to the president was to make sure that we understood all the consequences of the actions that we’re about to take. And he took that advice, and he responded to that advice by going to the United Nations. And we went to the United Nations. We knew that it would either be solved diplomatically or through of use of force. And we knew that if it was the use of force, we would be in for a challenging time. We would be responsible for the fate of 25 million Iraqis. The president understood that. And we are acting on that responsibility.

We have 138,000 troops there providing security. We have provided $18 billion for reconstruction and we’re helping now the Iraqi people develop a democratic system. We are putting in place ministries that are functioning and we’re going to be moving forward to elections. And so, yes, the place was broken after the war. And we’re well on our way to fixing it.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe, he accepted appointment to his position not to add temperance, but because he believes in Bush?

Jeezus. After this sort of deluded blather, Powell could apparently look a reporter in the eye and declare that the sun rises in the west.

This would be hilarious if it weren’t so tragic.

The entire Bush Administration is made up of criminals, and Powell is just an accessory to the crime.

An open letter to Sec. Powell:
You have led a remarkable life and should be an inspiration to all, not just African Americans. You have shown loyalty, integrity, steadfastness. You “soldier on” despite setbacks.
The right wing has been trying to discredit you since the day you took office. Your integrity has been seriously compromised. You are 67 years old. You have not indicated an ambition to seek higher office. Indeed, what are your future plans? Is there really something more you wish to accomplish in the Government sector?

Do the right thing–reclaim your integrity: Resign now! They can’t hurt you anymore!

We all live in hindsight and think we actually have 1/100 of the info to prove anything. Its not about the elected party anymore. They are both out of control. Its about us. If we really want to change then why is america full of hate once again? 911 made 40 million new out of the box experts on american future. Fact,if we cant secure this country, we cant fight amongst ourselves like we love to do.
    Nationalism in, Internationalism out!
