The Recording Academy has bestowed GRAMMY® Hall of Fame Awards on 21 recordings, including Led Zeppelin’s single “Stairway To Heaven” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” album.

Notables, in my humble opinion:

Rock Albums
“Born To Run,” Bruce Springsteen (1975)
“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” Elton John (1973)

Rock Singles
“Hotel California,” Eagles (1977)
“I Shot the Sheriff,” Eric Clapton (1974)
“Stairway To Heaven,” Led Zeppelin (1971)

There’s more, of course. Go ahead and read the whole list.

i thought stairway was never released as a single?

Does this mean I never need to hear those 3 songs again, please? “Classic Rock” stations seem to have forgotten that the hits came off of albums with other great songs, but never play them. I want my XM and Internet station!

You’re right about “Stairway” – never released as a single. It seems like “albums tracks” and singles have become indistinguishable via rock radio.

  • It’s probably the most popular “non-single” ever released….. so it of course deserves some sort of mention, I’d guess. I’m not sure what the criteria was, though.
