At age 62, Ray Davies has gotten around to his first solo album release, which has some critical buzz going. Other People’s Lives sounds like something that’d be worth a listen. What’s a genius like Ray had brewing that long? It sure sounds intriguing.

But woo, doggies, this week Capitol is whipping out five Merle Haggard twofer CDs, vintage classics re-mastered and bonus tracks. Sweeeeeeeeeet! Perhaps you would do well to start with Mama Tried/Pride in What I Am. Then again, how long can you live without Sing Me Back Home/Bonnie & Clyde?

Arctic Monkeys is a pretty major release. It’s setting sales records in the UK.

Major release, yes, but it ain’t livin’ up to the hype, from what I’ve heard.
