Switchfoot returns and AC/DC boxes up the rarities in this week's NAR...

New Album Releases 11/10/09: Switchfoot, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Porcupine Tree, Britney Spears, Snow Patrol

I was so excited about the twin Nirvana releases of last week and the R.E.M. live set from the previous week.  I was hoping I'd be able to stay enthusiastic throughout the month of November but it's just not going to happen this week.  There are a couple releases I'm interested in, but most of these are albums I could do without.

Switchfoot
Hello, Hurricane

I dig the Switchfoot.  I had never heard of them until their breakthrough album The Beautiful Letdown, but was so taken by them I quickly studied up on their previous three albums.  They followed TBL with the excellent Nothing Is Sound and then things turned sinister.  Sony thought it might be a good idea to release their Oh! Gravity. record the day after Christmas, and then dropped them.

I wasn't a big fan of Gravity but I'm hoping for good things from Hurricane.

AC/DC
Backtracks

I like AC/DC and there are some good rarities and interesting cuts that make up this box set but I'm not sure I like them enough to jump on this box.  It's not a bad value for the standard set (the super deluxe is absurdly expensive) and if you're a hardcore fan, you're going to find something here to like.  If you're more casual, there's nothing here to get that excited about.

That's about it.  I'm going to walk away from the table rather than take swipes at a few of the other releases listed below.  Just know that I'll know if you buy them and that I'm silently mocking you.
