My Primal Diet

I’ve done it. I’ve gone primal. Actually, it’s my diet that has gone primal. I’m weaning myself off of grains, beans, and legumes and eating only meat, chicken, fish, eggs, oils, nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables.

It’s the diet of primitive man, before agriculture took hold. It also means that I’m not eating any refined sugar, high fructose corn syrup, or hydrogenated oils.

Breakfast is now bacon and eggs or spinach salad with a hard boiled egg. Snacks are sunflower seeds and walnuts, strawberries or apples. Lunch and dinner include leafy greens, broccoli, steak or pot roast.

I had gotten into such a rut of cooking the same old meals day in and day out. Now, I’m experimenting with new foods. I made coconut pancakes this morning for breakfast. That’s right, pancakes made with coconut flour, coconut milk, and eggs. They were surprisingly delicious, especially with some strawberries on the side.

The best part of this new way of eating is that I’m not craving sugar anymore, I’ve got more energy and I’m excited about meal planning again. Who knew our primitive ancestors had a good thing going? I certainly didn’t, until now.
