In the past few weeks, there has been another spurt of rumors and conjecture regarding the likelihood of a new tour by The Rolling Stones. The British rockers, who will mark their 50th anniversary as a band in 2012, have not been on the road since 2007, when they finished a worldwide tour in connection with their album, A Bigger Bang.
During interviews that Keith Richards gave while promoting his autobiography, Life, at the end of last year, the famous guitarist strongly hinted that he was 
ready, and eager, to step back on stage with The Rolling Stones. Ron Wood, as quoted in the London Evening Standard on January 26, has said that the band would likely perform again, “maybe next year.” Mick Jagger, as usual, has been a bit more coy, but on February 3, these words were posted on Facebook by The Rolling Stones: “Some of you may have been made aware of the news stories concerning us touring and Live Nation. We wanted you to know directly that we have no current dealings with Live Nation and to date no news on touring. We can however confirm that you will be amongst the first to know if there is any tour news - watch this space!!”
The final question of whether The Rolling Stones will actually play together in the future still remains to be formally answered, but the mere thought of Mick Jagger appearing before excited audiences to bark out “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” “Brown Sugar,” “Start Me Up” and other cocky hits, at an advanced age that many people would hold to be more suitable to quiet activities involving grandchildren, is a cause for wonder. It seems that The Rolling Stones, having already succeeded in maintaining their rebellious ways from youth to middle age, are now gamely heading toward a boisterous dotage.
