"Who The F--k Is Pete Doherty" Screened By BBC - Comments Page 2

The Duke rages and weeps and sings "F--k forever, if you don't mind..."

Someplace near the end of Who The Fuck Is Pete Doherty, the much-hyped BBC documentary, screened tonight in the UK and, far as I can tell, repeated on BBC3 every night this week, journalist Paul Morley says all about how he's starting to get really worried on account of Pete Doherty's gonna be 27 next year. He starts rhyming off that list of Great Rock Star Casualties, your Kurt Cobain's, your Janis Joplin's, your Jimi Hendrix's, all of em choking on vomit or the brown or a bullet sometime between the ages of 26 and 28.…

    dom, if you got bittorrent, you'll see it listed at the bottom of the following page;

    http://www.andrewkendall.com/pages/misc/babyshambles2.php

also, that list has a buncha Libertines and Babyshambles bootlegs an a couple of Pete's solo acoustic net-albums. it's a godsend, is what it is. Stalking Pete Doherty is on there too. a horrorshow if ever was one.

hey im back again, i just love reading all of th lovely comments on Pete, and think, chris Kyle, u shudnt give up hope, Pete needs all th support he can get and its his music which is the most amazing thing not his wrong turns. We need to stand up for him and let people see him for his talent, NOT what they read in the papers.

i cant belev u'v met him tho!! tell me all about it please? did u catch his number??:P

Yeh, Pete is too good for kate, i would love to sit everynitght just listening to Pete play and sing to me..... rocking (n rolling) me to sleep.

Pete would be awsome solo but i dont think that would help him kick his drung habbit as he may end up stressed out.

no-one can ever replace The Libertines...unfortuenly...and would be great if they got back together, but for now Babyshambles will do...haha only kidding, their amazing too!!

P.s......oh and i did see th stylish kids in the riot. ;-)

dom, glad you got sorted out, then!

might i reccomend grabbin the glasonbury 2005 vid too if you ain't seen it. Pete headin off into the crowd durin Killamangiro, losin his hat an comin back covered in muck, it's a beautiful sight.

Time... great to see you again! i think pete has too much of the punk in him to go totally solo, but even if he did an acoustic record just as a side-thingy. he can pretty much do what he wants, no need to tie himself to anything. there's no reason why he couldn't wander into the studio and lay down a set of finished songs one day or other. i hope he does, actually. the version of Albion he does over the various acoustic bootlegs is just unbearably beautiful.

    heh, we're such pete geeks!!

I'm spanish, and I love the Libs and I love Pete Doherty. I've readed your text and I'm totally agree with you. When I was in Ireland on holidays I was very surprised to see how the tabloids talk about him. There is a lot more behind that junkie image, it's great to know how some people can see it too.

Lots of love from Barcelona, Spain

Shane MacGowan is indisputably a genius. 'A Pair of Brown Eyes' is the most beautiful, touching and poignant song ever written. I can't help feeling Pete's a genius in waiting.

Did no-one else find this one-sided drivel? mean really, an hour of people saying how great Pete is? I do genuinly love his music but he comes across as a total rock star cliche in this which is very dissapointing. Arrogent and abusive with an army of sychophants ready to defend every thing he does by harking back to former glories.

Back to the documentry, they may as well of repeated all the comments on pete over and over agin. There was little real insight into the man(He does poetry and writes songs?Really!), simply saying he's really talented over and over again adds nothing. Despite Petes supoir attuide to the crew they have made a pointless documentry which just about stops short of saying Pete is the best thing in music ever.

I still can't wait for the Babyshambles album but I certainly can't say I like Pete Doherty the person. The Max Carlish thing had very little on Pete, it was really about Max Carlish. I often wondered why Pete didn't give many interviews in his Libertine days but it seems now it's all about mystiuge. Everyone assumes he is highly intelligent and real and genuine person. But even in total white-wash docunmentry he comes across as a niave man in his mid-twenties still caught up in the romantic notion of self-destruction. And immensly selfish. Sorry about the rant but I struggled to watch the programme it annoyed me so much. I would have given up but I was waiting for the other side of the argument that never came.

hi, im doing media coursework on the stalking documentary (just thought i'd have a laugh with it, its such a joke) and this article came up in google. i'd just like to say, brilliant! i was absolutely amazed when i started reading that people from outside libertines/baby shambles websites knew anything ''And us lot, what we usually do is sigh and curse The Sun and The Mirror and OK Magazine, fling on one a those demo recordings, maybe Albion, maybe I Love You But You're Green.'' - this paragraph made my day. that is EXACTLY what we do, nice to know theres still people who give a damn about knowing the full story and not just taking the red-tops word for stuff.
    well done mate, class.

Sorry not to speak better the shakespeare language, but I love Pete and his derive, his peripeties don t affect my love for him, It dont care, just the music of Libertines and of Babyshamble, only the music , and Pete Doherty is a genius.. thanks a lot to have read my com' bye

That's how i found it, the song rang a bell but the b-side of can't stand me now is electric and played a little different. Took me a while to realise it's the same song. And i only saw the docu once....

Oh yeah Pete is god btw

Scott, i'm really glad you liked this, since you hadn't heard anythin. it's nice to know maybe folks who don't have that connection already can still make sense of this. let me know what you think of the music. personally, it makes my soul bleed. in a good way. but i'm aware it don't affect everyone in such a manner. but then i never got coldplay, so who knows? (an no, i'm not comparing The Libertines to Coldplay in any musicological manner, thank you please)

i totally agree , but peter is not a genius, thats not to say hes not clever and has the great r n r spirit since shaun ryder. he s put england back on the map for great music instead of oasis, coldplay and all those other maggots. babyshambles wont be together for more albums i reckon. but pete will have his third band and show these dumb boring cunts who are jealous to stop making music(noel g).

I've just flicked through many of the comments made on here, the article came up when i was searching for the guitar tab for "cyclops" (Which by the way Aaron is performed beautifully on a live recording of a solo Pete at the Rhythm Factory last year, if you want it check out ebay for a copy, or if you want I'm sure I could arrange a copy be sent to you). I saw Babyshambles at Blank Canvas, Leeds in october, the best gig this year without a doubt.. but other friends said they were bored. I was at the front unlike my mates for the duration of the gig and so was cought up in the atmosphere of it all. Anyone else at that gig care to share thier views? At the moment it's difficult to find anyone who is writing music which I, personally can connect with. Pete is doing this right now, and getting slated for it. The tabloids, and even broadsheets are killing a man that has so much to offer everyone just because he doesn't live a life that society would like us all to lead. Suprise, suprise people who have such narrow minds are making money writing about such things. I read an article in a certain broadsheet not long ago, which had old friends of Pete making contributions such as "he isn't the friend we used to know" and "Pete used to go round to peoples houses unannounced and perform a gig for them just because they couldn't make it to the gig the night before" etc. What the article didn't do is abuse Pete, however it didn't offer any suggestion as to why his friends are saying this about him.. and thus leaving you with the presumption that it's because of what the tabloids say. They are as bad as eachother. The papers are what we, as music fans, should be avoiding. If we want to know what Pete is really like we should read his wonderful word smithery. The man, in my opinion, is our generations musical genius. You can't compare him to people like Dylan or Young and so on, that was then, this is now. Pete is established but for the wrong reasons, for pete's sakes let the man live and create if any of you press hounds are reading. See what I did there?!

I am afraid Pete is destined to go down the path of so many before him. That edge, that thing that drives his talent to another place, will be his undoing.

It might come in the form of death. It might not. As it is, what attention he gets is more for the persona and struggles than the music. He's already mostly killed one band and hasn't been able to properly launch the new. Even if he manages to dance the dance with the drugs it seems he is not able to manage the career. Sadly, it appears at this time Pete is not going to have a musical legacy in relation to his talent.

Layne Staley/AiC was guilty of that. That was a band (in my judgment) of immense talent yet they managed 3 full-length LPs and 2 EPs in their career. So many great songs they never got around to making.

And then there is the Syd Barrett variation.

And it goes on and on and on. The right balance of madness, extremeness, and clarity is what is needed. I am pulling for him. I am not optimistic. I have seen it before.

I agree. I admit to preferring his acoustic stuff to the libertines though... More poetic, and i feel it's more sincere. The man's like a 21st century Byron, his turn of phrase inspires me, and I hope he doesn't get any more lost than he is. I wonder how many people who slag him off have every listened to his music, or read his lyrics? He's cleverer than most people in the bloody UK- 11 A* gcses and 4 As at A level- can't argue with that now, can we? Sure, you don't have to like his music, but at least people could aknowledge that they know jack shit about him before slagging his work. He invited every one of his audience at a gig back to his house, had each one come into his BEDROOM one at a time and request a song for a personal performance... that's what you call respecting your fans.

Pete's all right. Not much better ethically than the army of shady geezers out there with a habit and a guitar, but no worse either. The only thing extraordinary about his private life is that it is not private - and this is entirely due to his relationship with Ms. Moss.

Been reading lots of "what Pete needs" type stories but afaik Pete's doing all right - as long as the police give him a break.

I don't suppose his heart's in it but I'd like to see him polish up his acoustic songs and release a solo album, Nick Drake style.

I can't believe your comparing this hypocrite, the man who said 'Racism ruins lives' whilst activly snorting and injecting anything close to hand (because drugs so clearly don't ruin peoples lives), to people like Hendrix.

I like plenty of bands which are wild, I like the Alice Coopers, the Who's, the Kiss', but the difference was they came up with some great music. He's just a bratty little teenager, who can't sing, can't play guitar very well and writes piss-poor songs.

this is a right good bit of text on mr.doherty. i admit i've only recently (i.e. past 6 months) started to really listen to all his stuff. lyrically and melodically its sublime. its pains me te see such precocious talent fall by the way side. and it pains me even more to see 90% of the population failing to recognise the talent. as you rightly said he is a junkie to most people, nothing more. i've tryed to tell people "listen to the music, listen to what he says" but to no avail. i think its a shame that people judge his music via his publicly 'private' life without knowing much about either his life or his music.

the problem is that pete, as of now, is a commodity. the music is irrelevent to most people. the beauty of the lyrics, the passion in the songs, the pain in his voice. people miss all these vital points. they only see syringes an supermodels an fucking fracas' outside of the courtrooms when he's looking down the barrel of another drug charge. it saddens me to see someone with such a natural gift imploding. an its saddens me even more to see people ignoring the talent in favour of the pussy cat dolls, or pink.

i do think doherty is exceptional and, asodd as it sounds, when i play his music on guitar, when i sing along, i almost feel the passion. i feel the pain of killamangiro ('why would you pay to see me in a cage?'). i feel the raw energy of the delaney ("there's magic in this lad"). i feel the sad refrain of music when the lights go out ("oh wont you please forgive me"). i could go on and on. such a rare talent over looked because of his propensity for self destruction.

your article was astounding, i felt the passion you feel for doherty. i feel it myself. he may be going off the rails, but my faith in the man is unflinching. 1 listen of songs like 'Gang Of Gin' help me forget the problems he has an makes me focus on the music. a legend who may well be coming to the end of the road.

"trust in me, i'll take you by the hand"

    My question:

Entry #62 asked about the Song: "Beg Steal and Borrow". Thank You "erm me, #64"...but can anyone give me a link or something else, where I can get the whole song from, or was it just an improvisation of him in the documentation?

nothing come close to pete lyric wise every word come from the heart he Conveyers all his feeling and emotions in every song and he the most real person out there in the public eye! everyone should look past the drugs cause at the end of the day the drug aren't the person and they haven't extingushed his talents, many of you people say he not as good as kurt, lennon etc no i agreee he's better!!!!!!!!! all you people who beleive the sun, mirror etc are so naive and small minded every thing they write about him is a lie or Exaggerated he is no way as bad as the media make out! can anyone answer why he called a junkie? because if you know the meaning of the word junkie it's someone who all they do is take drug and just do anything to get thier next round. but pete earns his money which pays for the drugs and he works hard for his habit and for the love of poetry and music. so everyone should just get over the obsesstion of him been on drugs and look passed it all, he is a truly talented guy who should be just given the chance to prove it to the world instead of having him lifestyle splashed all over the papers
