Whitney and the Tube

Whitney Houston's December TV interview with Diane Sawyer ("crack is whack") led many to conclude that her relationship with reality is somewhat, um, tenuous. But following tepid sales of her latest album, she is returning to the tube to try to get something going. Per her website:

Whitney To Appear on Boston Public!
Whitney wrapped up filming for an appearance on the Fox network's hit show Boston Public on Wednesday, April 16. The show will be the season finale and it will air on Fox Monday, May 12. Check local listings for scheduled airtimes and channel information.

Whitney had a ball on the set and she had the chance to meet Tamyra Gray
from American Idol with whom she had a scene. She also had a chance to sit
with Tamyra and tell her about what to expect in this music industry and how to
deal and handle herself, but Whitney knows that she will be fine with Clive Davis looking over her project. On the finale, Whitney also sings her new single, "Try It On My Own." Be sure to tune in and set those VCR's!

Whitney's "Try It On My Own" Video To Air on ABC!
Don't miss a 2 ½ minute network airing of Whitney's latest video "Try It On My Own" during the ABC primetime showing of "The Birdcage" Saturday, April 19th from 9:26-9:29pm ET on ABC!

The relationship between Whitney and The Birdcage escapes me - is her video a commercial? Is it paid for by Arista, or is it some form of "bonus programming"?

The Boston Public/Tamyra connection is through Whitney's old mentor Clive Davis, who is no longer affiliated with Whitney's label Arista, but now heads RCA, for which Tamyra is recording her first record.

Tamyra also sings a duet, "You Thought Wrong," on the new Kelly Clarkson album, which is also on RCA - got it?

I saw something recently on one of those "lifestyle" channels like MTV or VH1 or E! or something about the guy who runs the "Girls Gone Wild" empire. The briefly touched on his past legal troubles and dismissed them, while sneaking in a reference to the fact that he had hired a good PR firm to try to reshape his public image. (Gee, by getting 30 minutes specials on cable about him, maybe?) They did a nice job of presenting him as a harmless lecher.

Until a month or two later when he was dragged back into court for some cases involving underage girls with video evidence and so on. Oops!

How long before Whitney gets picked up with a few rocks in her purse and realizes that she (or her label, more likely) wasted all of the PR money going into this?
