Afeni Shakur tries to stop sale of her son's songs
Tupac Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur is seeking an injunction against Death Row Records who are looking to sell unreleased material recorded by the late artist. The material should have been given to Tupac's estate as part of an agreement reached in 1997, according to Afeni Shakur's lawyer. The head of Death Row records bankrupcty back in April of 2006. The court is currently also deciding whether the label should be able to release the unreleased material as part of an album to help pay off its debts.
The Donnas inaugurate Purple Feather Records
The Donnas have started the label Purple Feather Records. The imprint's first release will be the upcoming Donna's album Bitchin', which will be released on September 18th. The album is a follow up to the Donnas 2004 release Gold Medal and is said to contain songs of girl fighting, partying and boyfriend problems.
Lil Wayne, Ja Rule hit with unrelated weapons charges
Rappers Lil Wayne and Ja Rule have both been arrested in separate incidents and hit with gun charges in Manhattan. Ja rule and two others who were in his car after the police pulled him over were charged with criminal possession of a firearm after the police found a handgun with the serial numbers removed in the car. An hour later, a bus which Lil Wayne was on was pulled over. The police found a similar handgun on the bus.
