Two men charged with defrauding internet phone companies
Two men, Edwin Andres Pena of Miami and Robert Moore of Spokane, Washington, have been charged have allegedly created a hacking scheme that surreptitiously routed calls through Internet phone companies' networks. Prosecutors say that Pena used two companies he created to offer phone connections at discount rates. Typically, this is done by buying minutes from larger carriers and reselling them to smaller carriers at a profit. However, prosecutors say that with the help of Moore, Pena’s company created “free” routes by hacking into computer networks.
Lala.com, a website designed to allow users to swap CDs is set to go live today. The site will allow music fans to swap CDs for $1 plus shipping. Lala.com has said that a fifth of its revenue will go to the musicians who made the CDs being traded. It intends on paying the musicians via a charitable organization called the Z Foundation.
The Cure have announced details of the albums they are re-releasing. They announced on their website that they will reissue The Top, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and The Head on the Door. Also to be reissued is Blue Sunshine, a side project of Robert Smith’s and Siouxsie and the Banshees drummer Steven Severin. The discs will all be released with a companion disc of extra tracks including live tracks and demos.
Beyonce holding auditions for all-girl backing band
Starting next week, Beyonce Knowles will be holding open auditions across the States looking for girls with a certain “look” to play as her backing band for this summer’s tour. Knowles is looking for girls who play keyboards, horns, drums, trumpet, guitar, bass, saxophone, and percussion. There will be a final audition with Beyonce in New York City. The successful musicians will be out on tour starting on June 20.
