It seems that Tower Records has declared bankruptcy. This isn't all that surprising; CDs and DVDs are uniquely well suited for sale on the web. They're small, easy to ship, and you get exactly what you expect (unlike, say, a car).

Not to mention that you can save a bundle ordering online - Tower's retail prices are ridiculously high on most items. I love Tower for the selection, but the price turns me off in all but a very few instances. Once in a while I'll stumble on some gotta-have-it item, but usually I'm more than willing to wait a few days to save $5 or more dollars.

forget online...there's a tower records in burlington, ma that's a 1 minute walk from a newbury comics....tower's prices were consistently $2-4 higher.
just plain stupid.

The few times I visited Tower Records in Tacoma I concur with other comments here. They were too expensive and their selection wasn't as good as some of the used CD stores that we've been to. It's one thing to be expensive and have more rare selection, but to be expensive with the same CDs that retail outlets are selling as much 30-40%+ less?
Recipe for bankruptcy.

Well, I got "The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions" for $49 from Tower Online. And I got the remastered "Aja" CD for $5.99 (new).
Yeah, their regular prices suck, but they have some pretty good sales if you're willing to wait for them.

OK LETS NOT TALK ABOUT THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM... I RATHER DOWN LOAD THE MUSIC FOR FREE, OH NO! I MEANT FOR A FEE! THEN SCHLEP TO SOME 1980'S RETAIL STORE.

Sure they have higher prices, they have store employees to pay... but they also have a choice and some rare items I would miss if they completely disappeared.
