Toploader split after being dropped

CMU

Toploader have officially split up - news we were awaiting after they were
dropped by Sony label S2 due to poor record sales. Writing on their website
the band told fans: "We have decided to call it a day with Toploader. We
just wanted to say thank you so much for your support over the years. You
have been the best fans and we will miss you all. Cheers, the band."

Toploader originally performed well, gaining a lot of college support. But
they quickly got assigned to the middle of the road pop bracket - getting
play from VH1 and Radio 2 more than MTV and Radio 1. Most recent album
'Magic Hotel' didn't perform well leading to the decision by S2 to part
company with the band.

Marty: There album sales might have resulted from the fact they produced dull rock music. They were placed in the MOR racks because that is what they were. Combine this with their limp performances at the festivals they played, it is not shock they got dropped. They are a bunch of talented guys, let's hope they move on and do something original.

The headline sounds like a watermelon being launched from a rooftop.
