T.J. Kirk release live album

I inquired in this post just last week about reading news of a T.J. Kirk album, and today, upon visiting the official Charlie Hunter messageboard I find the answer. Preorders have begun for the first T.J. Kirk live album, TALKING ONLY MAKES IT WORSE, which will ship in January.

T.J. Kirk, for those who unfortunately don't know, is the love-child of Will Bernard (guitar,) John Schott (guitar,) Charlie Hunter (8-string guitar,) and Scott Amendola (drums) playing the music of - get this - Rahsahn Roland Kirk, Thelonius Monk, and . . . wait for it . . . James Brown. Not content to just cover one artist per song, these guys mix it all up, dumping some JB funk under Monk, or mixing all three in one track. The best part is - it works amazingly well. And based on the live bootlegs I have of this band, a live album from them should be astounding. On record they're fun, but live these guys really tear it up. Unfortunately, both studio albums are out of print, but some copies are still available at the Amazon links below. Take advantage of them. Open-minded jazz fans and lovers of funk will likely not be disappointed. And be sure and get a pre-order in on this live album. You won't regret it.

(You won't regret clicking over to unproductivity.)
