This ain't no monkeying around

Village Gorilla Head
Tommy Stinson
(Sanctuary)

Bass player in a recent GnR line-up and formerly of the Replacements, Stinson has an interesting pedigree. He obviously has the chops but can he deliver the goods? Well yes, but not necessarily at first listen. This CD is definetely a grower, taking several listens before getting the hooks in. Once it does though, the songs take on a whole new and catchy element. In short, Stinson has produced a record on par with Slash's 'Its Five O'clock Somewhere" or Izzy's JuJu Hound release. While not as impressive with Velvet Revolver's debut this is certainly better than the few new GnR tracks that I have had the opportunity to hear. Good hard rock that sneaks up on you and takes you by surprise. In short: this rocks, hard & good.
