Can't believe Alvin Lee isn't in the upper half of the list, let alone not on it. He practically stole the show at Woodstock and played one of the most unforgettable solos at the Isle of Wight festival.

    This list is absurd...

randy rhodes should be at least in the top 20.. rhodes had some of the best solos whith ozzy of all time

jimi hendrix.. the guy is top ten material...but not number one

dave allman number 2...this guy shouldnt even be in the top 50

and kirk hammet... ok mettalica...great band no doubt...they had some of the most killer rythems of all time...but kirk hammet made the sound a bit sloppy at times

how is niel young number 83!! come on the guy was a legend!

angus young shouldnt be in here either...acdc has some of the simplest songs you could ever play on guitar

eddie van halen only at number 70.... need i say more

david gilmore should be waaaaaay higher on the list....

    where is joe satriani???????????

as a matter of fact, our songs were made up of over 486 different variation and notes

No Joe Walsh! the guitarist who created probably the most famous guitar solo in rock music

Any one know a guy named Niel Schon?

    TDavid

Duane Allman is legendary I think he certainly has an argument for #1. Listening to Live at Fillmore East and Duane playing slide is jaw dropping, he is the greatest slide guitarist ever and is certainly deserving of #2.

I agree with JR, I am a metal guy so I think people are forgetting some amazing composers like Daniel from Pain Of Salvation or even the great Chuck from Death and Paul from Cynic. Just my opinion though. PS: Robert Fripp should be among the Top 10!

hammet should be in the top 3 and hetfield is fuckin rad too. the edge? yeah right. and les paul shoul be way higher up. this list was just made of popularity and bullshit

Someone explain to me how SRV gets into the top ten but Albert King ,George Benson and Wes Montgomery don't even make the list. This list is a bunch of BULL.

  • 3393 - Sabri

    Nov 05, 2009 at 11:05 pm

I would like to add Wes Montgomery & Michaelangelo Batio to the list.

  • 3394 - Sabri

And also Django Reinhardt & Charlie Christian. RS seemed to have missed the jazzed part absolutely. About MAB, they should have put in more shredders if they're concentrating on rock music.

i assume that there's a misprint somewhere on the list as i cant seem to find the name Slash anywhere

Does Rolling Stone set out to make its Top 100 lists completely ridiculous? Do they liked to be mocked for their horrifying lack of musical knowledge despite claiming to be some sort of authority?

The lists are always worth nothing but mockery. Musical idiots at Rolling Stone wouldn't know a good guitarist if they heard one.
