The Proclaimers have announced the release of their first album in two years. Restless Soul will be in stores in North America on September 6th. Three days latter the twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid will be landing in Halifax Canada to kick off their North American tour in support of their latest offering
"I hope it outsells U2 and Coldplay.....but realistically, if it washes its face, if it covers the expense that we've put on it, and we maybe made a bit of money at the end, that would be fantastic” Charlie Reid in Proclaimers Press Release.
It’s that kind of unpretentious attitude and ability to write appealing songs like “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” that have secured the Reid brothers a loyal following beyond the borders of their native Scotland. In Britain, where Restless Soul has already been released, the press response has been positive.
In this, their sixth album, they have tried to be even more specific in the topics of their material. They claim the more specific you can be about emotions, the more universal a song becomes. The title track from the new release, for example, focuses on people’s inability to be in the moment and not worry about the future.
Blair Young has just finished directing The Proclaimers in the promotional video for the disc Restless Soul and it will be of the title track. Trying to show how a driven person never stops working, the camera looks as if it’s constant motion.
“I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”, already their signature tune, has gained further immortality. Aside from featuring in the soundtrack of Benny and Joon it was one of the songs played on the Mars Rover as it explored the Red Planet. I’m sure their Scottish accent must have confused any Martian who happened to have been listening.
Past Proclaimers CDs have provided a variety of different styles of song, from simple folk to stirring anthems. From early reviews in Britain, it sounds like we can expect more of the same. While some bands seem to try and reinvent themselves with each album, The Proclaimers have allowed themselves to mature within their own unique style.
A new Proclaimers album is always something to look forward to, and Restless Soul doesn’t look like it will cause me to think any different. Watch this site for a review of Restless Soul closer to the release date of September 6th 2005.

That's weird, cause I was interviewing Charlie from Toronto where they were going to be playing back in early September. I'd say try one of the chains like H. M. V., but if that don't work, you can order it through amazon.ca Canadian counterpart to the links on this page.
