(Now & Then)
Nexx hail from Spain and rather quickly put paid to the belief that Spain does not produce any decent rock bands. This is a spectacular debut of this type that rarely comes along. It combines all the right elements and has hints of such bands as Heart (80s version), Saraya and Femme Fatale. There is an original streak in the band as well, which combine Patricia's tender vocals (think Candice Night) with a very good AOR band. There is still a hint of a Spanish accent that garbles the vocals at times, but I not sure if this is not part of their charm. These guys can play and have the tunes to make it happen. Producer Pete Coleman (AC/DC. Paradise Lost etc) knows enough to let the music do the talking, the sound is crisp and clean. Rightly so, the band has been getting large amounts of glowing attention from the melodic rock circles. From the opening strains of the opening track 'Arches of Faith' to end of the tender '40 days & 40 nights" you hear the strains of a classic melodic rock album. There are no highlights, the entire album is one big one. The only question is, what will they do for an encore? Nexx's debut is one of the most impressive debuts since Cinderella's Night Songs. Kudos to Now & Then for looking to Spain to bring us this essential AOR.

Nexx are the starrings in the new documentary of two young spanish directors: Ferrero and Sangregorio. The documentary is called "Long Play" and explains everything about the situation of the musical industry in Spain nowadays.
