The Network Is Spawning...

The Peninsula Coalition is a new initiative I'm organizing... and the co-brainchild of Derek Malpass and Steve Day (from Isra), and myself. The Peninsula Coalition has a mission statement. Read it, and then I'll tell you a little of what we're up to.

The Peninsula Coalition is an organization of promoters, bands, and people who strive to remain open-minded toward all genres of underground music.
The Peninsula Coalition exists to lend a hand to all bands and performers who fit this description.
The Peninsula Coalition is not a scene, a club, or a clique.
The Peninsula Coalition strives to break down the walls that so many other music scenes have created in our area.
The Peninsula Coalition wishes to exclude none, except the exclusive.
The Peninsula Coalition wishes to rock and roll.

The Peninsula Coalition (that's the Peninsula side of Hampton Roads, VA - Newport News, Hampton, Yorktown, Williamsburg, etc) is going to break down the walls that have caused such problems in our scene, and exclude the elitist attitude that many kids in this area have. I (we) feel that there are a lot of really great bands in our area, but lots of times, kids don't even know what's going on, because there is no network, no sense of community, or means of communication within the scene. We want to bring together a family of bands, promoters, and kids that really care about what's going on in the area. People that don't go to shows to "be hardcore" or mess people up, but go to rock out and support some great people and great bands.

Here's what we're up to...

We plan on making CD samplers to give away (that's for FREE, kids) at shows, to plug the site, the bands, and the Coalition. So far, we plan to include tracks from Forever Unsaid, Isra, Find Your Self Truth, Red Admiral, Enemy of Existence, and Kill Your Crush, plus a few more, if we can swing it. We plan on having a Peninsula Coalition emblem that will be branded with a hot iron into the flesh of everyone involved, and proudly displayed on CDs, shirts, stickers, and every flyer that's made for a Coalition member. Any suggestions or ideas for the emblem should be sent here.

We're networking with the bands right now to make this thing big. If your band would like to be a part of the Coalition, and you agree with our mission statement, email Derek or me. We are not restricting to any certain genre, and not even to any area. We welcome any bands that would like to network with us. I mean, heck. If we could have a nationwide network of bands that want to help each other out when they go on tour, how awesome would that be... If you know someone else that has a site or a way to get the word out, do the same. Our friend Pablo from pheer.com (which is a real mainstay site for VA, DC, and MD shows.. it's huge) is gonna hook us up with some banner ads and plug our CD samplers in the soon to be opened pheerstore. If you haven't seen this site, this kid is amazing. Besides running a comprehensive list of shows for all of VA, DC, and MD, he is an excellent videographer and hosts a ton of videos on pheer. He just posted some sweet new videos of Hopesfall and Norma Jean, plus he has tons of others on already. A benefit show for the Coalition is in the works for the weekend of November 1st and 2nd.

We'd love to get any suggestions, input, comments, ideas, or feedback on any aspect of this undertaking. If you think of a painfully obvious thing we're missing, please, let us know. If you have an idea for a way to make our family grow, or a networking type thing we haven't thought of... holla. You've all prolly got some ideas we haven't even conceived.

Please, check out our site at http://geocities.com/peninsulascene, and let us know what you think. Heck, make a profile and post on our messageboard.

The revolution is now. Are you in?
