“We play songs for teenage girls to listen to in their bedroom” Ben Lashes of the Lashes recently confessed to stranger.com. Listener, beware: this band was made to live on another teen movie soundtrack. Recent tourmates of TRL faves the Donnas, The Lashes have released the Stupid Stupid EP, which does quite well at living up to its name for the band’s non-adolescent audience.
Produced by John Goodmanson (Bikini Kill, the Blood Brothers, Sleater Kinney) the Seattle six-pack offers up four songs on the EP, starting with two one could easily miss if not paid close attention. “Pop Song” and “It’s Your Party” work better, if only to contempt the listener as a poor man’s Superdrag with Rivers Cuomo on vocals. Hopefully for the Lashes, their full length resurrects.
