The Jeff Healey Band - Live At Montreux 1999 (DVD Review) - Page 2

As good as the main feature was, the four bonus songs from Healey's 1997 Montreux appearance were even better. Joining Healey on guitar, this time around, was a young, fellow-Canadian, guitar-ace named Philip Sayce, who nearly stole the show with his lead guitar and vocal work on the funky "Put The Shoe On The Other Foot". Rounding out the set was Healey's wonderful take on the George Harrison classic "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Overall, the band seemed a little more passionate and energized during this set.

This is another recent Live At Montreux DVD release that features exceptional production quality. It is one of the few DVDs I have reviewed where I can simply say that the audio and video quality were just about perfect. You've got DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, and PCM stereo to choose from, and they all sound amazing. The picture was crystal clear and as sharp as a razor. The lighting was exceptional and the camera work made you lose yourself in the performance. The only down side was the lack of any additional special features.

I haven't really kept up with Jeff Healey since Cover To Cover, but this DVD has certainly renewed my interest - although he hasn't released a new album since 2000's Get Me Some. I hope to hear more from him in the near future.

I recently received a nice email from Jeff Healey's publicist thanking me for this review and also pointing out a few errors I have made. Firstly, The Jeff Healey Band does not exist any more and Jeff has not played with Joe Rockman or Tom Stephen for over five years. Jeff has a new live touring band called Jeff Healey's Jazz Wizards, playing his favourite genre of music, traditional 1920s and '30s jazz. Visit www.jeffhealey.com for more info.

Hmmm - this guy is !@#$% amazing. I've heard him and heard about the guitar across his lap but never sene it. A DVD would be ideal - unless he drops by Phoenix or Tucson. it's stunning that he can pull and pluck so much energy out of a static guitar.

Good job on the corrections, too.

Paul, This post has been digitally replicated over at Advance.net, a place affiliated with about 10 newspapers around the country.
    One such site is here.
Also please let your contact know, if you had one, that this article, is published at one more place. That helps to show they get two?, three? for the "price" of one.
    Thank you.
