The Duke's New Net Record #6 - Grab It Right Here For Free - Page 2

Most of it's self-explanatory, although I'd be struck with lightening from now till shortly afterwards when my guts would fry, were I not to mention that the verses of Chicks Dig Whinin' are set to the tune of Jesus Loves Me, This I Know.

So here it is. Just right-click the tracks for to save someplace nice, or left-click to hear online.

Tell your friends. They'd be saying "Fuck, that was a savage free net-record", I'd bet.

I'm impressed as all hell by this collection, Duke. This is a serious album of music you've got right here. Ship this off to the people who market folk-punk superstars, I say.

Great variety here with just you and a bloody guitar to do the work. Great, great stuff man.

"I Do Believe You Are the Devil" -- Do I detect a Violent Femmes influence here? In any event I really like it. Good hook, good lyrics. Fuck man, I wish I could write a hook and not just derivative "grunge" chords.

This is the second time I've heard "Don't Think I'll Sleep Tonight" and I really dig it -- it's quietly intense and kind of rolls and builds. Shows a real songwriting ability. And nice string plucking, too!

"Chicks Dig Whining" -- definite possibilities for a cross-over ska-punk hit here, me thinks!

"Sinead" -- Really dig it. Again, quiet but intense and interesting. You know how to carry a tune, man.

"I'd Kiss Him" -- This is one of my favorites right here, man. Great stuff. Sweet rolling hooks and melody.

I hope you're getting out there and hitting the coffee shop circuit, Duke. Or at least get on the busking scene and pick up some of that lucrative tourist coin.

shit, man, thank you! a whole heapa track appraisals, no less!

im glad you thought it had some sort of variety. i think past ones were all a bit one-note, so hopefully this is a bit more interesting on that level if nothing else.

an i dont believe i ever heard the violent femmes, which i know, is a disgrace. i think what i had in my head was a buncha chain gang workers. very bizarre.

and i like I'd Kiss HIm too. a love song that devotes a verse to Amityville and Amityville II can't be all bad.

    hmm...

Duke - I think that's a good move (without knowing what's on your CD, of course): this stuff sounds really good as a collection.

Have you thought about getting a band together? It's not to take anything away from work, but there were many points where I could see other instrumentation adding quite a bit to what you've created.

eric, all comments are welcome, man. i heard a fella today tell me that the guitar playin sucked, for example. i agree wholeheartedly.

i think i jsut like the idea of wanderin in some place with a battered acoustic and hollerin for a time. like Woody Guthrie, except he could play.

an i just did up the cd version of this, which is identical. and that fella who mentioned the guitar is the same fella with the ricky gervais thing, who is givin me it back tomorow, which is why i havent sent that package yet...
